Tron Legacy Costume

Sweet jacket MisterDigital! Can't wait to see it with the disc mounted and light strip installed. I'm working on a jacket of my own as well.:)

Mister Digital you sell disc mounts? how much are they? and where can i get one?

No, I'm not selling mounts. I just decided to get rid of my first version since I only need one. It would have just sat around anyway. I offered it up for the cost of shipping, and it was taken pretty fast. Sorry.

Thanks MD, appreciated, both the info and the hub.

As to TRON 3, I saw that coming a mile away.. and you KNOW it will take place in a 'New Grid', since Sam took a server copy with him on a small memory card near the end of TRON:Legacy.

It will be interesting to hear the logic behind a Program living in the Real World, since I was of the mind that the Scanning Laser Projector used by Flynn to enter his Grid was more advanced and not the same type as first seen in TRON. Being that the first scanner was a scanner, sending program data only into the system, we know the second scanner was an actual coder that broke down your structure into raw code (hence Sam bleeding at the strike of Rinzler).

Potential.. tons. Will Disney brutalize the plot and script like they did in TRON:Legacy.. I sure as hell hope not.

Well the diffusion failed...hmm I guess I just don't have very good luck. I think I may order some el-tape, and then use a combination of that and velcro to mod my costume. I will keep the reflective tape for day time events, and then apply the el-tape for nighttime events.

Hi guys, I was watching the film last night and something on the suits caught my eye, so I thought I would run it past you guys as I don't think this has been commented on. In a few of the scenes where you see Sam's and Quorra's backs lit up there is a box in the middle of the back, and a light went on in my brain, huh, battery packs. Also I am wondering if this could also have been designed that way so they could sit down in the suits more comfortably so the disk mount and the batt box kept the same spacing making it possible to lean on them in a chair. Here are some screen caps.

What do you guys think?

Dando, that totally is a battery box, and I'll be utilizing that design element for my battery box, I just have to figure out the measurements to pick up an appropriate project box from the electronics store for it, also have to figure out a method of mounting it, I'm thinking belt clip. :)

I would bet those are the inverters, judging by my experience on my costume and my girlfriend, those match with our inverters' measurements almost exactly. We put them in the same place as shown in this pics.
The batts on their costumes were on the discs holders for what I have seen. Ours didn't fit, since we needed a 6500 mAh batt pack to run our costumes for 4 or 5 hours.

If I remember correctly, you bought from light tape, who also if I remember correctly provided the tape for the film. That would make sense then. Thanks for the insight.:)

Just curious, since you arguably have the brightest EL tape I've seen. What inverter did you use (as in, maybe a link or name of the company?) and what kind of tape did you use?

I only want to know to disprove what I have found so far: EL tape is disappointingly dim. I have already tackled the LED strip method, works great, I want to experiment with EL tape again and get it to work like yours. Thanks

Nope, I bought from Luminous film, I provided few link some days ago. They have some PDFs on their website very very useful.

What it comes to brightness, El Tape does not light up the room. Neither does in the movie. It's not it's purpose. It just lights up itself.
In a certain low lighting, as shown in my pics, or in a club, it does light your partner's face, or your surroundings, like a wall behind you.

I tried the Led way, and I didn't like it. I know about that guy on Instructables, but Led strips became too thick. And the hot spots were impossible to diffuse.

Thanks for the reply and info Sheol. I would say this about the LED method: check out my posts a few pages back, I invented my own way to distribute the light that made the pieces thin and VERY hard to see the bright spots. Its just a MAJOR pain in the ass to make each piece. I didn't like what that guy on Instructables did, I just kinda went my own way and really enjoy the results. Its just that if I ever make another one, I don't want to go through that much suffering again....

FYI - Maybe this has been covered before (but this thread IS over 130 pages)... But for the planning stages of your costume, just to get the lines right and get a general idea, blue Painter's Tape works pretty good. It's even the right color!

103_4184.jpg

I bought a 3-pack of 1.4m lights from GlowHut. Their brightness is not the greatest, but it's visible in indoor lighted conditions, which should work. And this painter's tape is a good match for the color when lit.

So I completely re-wired the current LEDs in the spin master's toy disc. The light seems sufficient enough to cover my needs. Took me awhile and was tedious, but paid off in the end. No sound and static lights. Still need to install an on/off switch. Also included a horribly photoshopped picture of my costume. I am still waiting on the reflective tape. Seems to be the best way to go is luminous film, which is going to break my bank; which I don't want to do. So, reflective tape it is. All for now, more progress to come later. I am going to have make-up and derezzing going on my face, so yeah.

We covered this back around October if I recall and it was explained in a net article that these were the portable packs for the suits. They used them in scenes where characters were forced to move around the camera and no wire leads could be hidden off camera (like when Sam is sitting on the bed, speaking with Quarra, at Flynn's Cyber Cave).

If I am not off the mark, these packs were Li-Po packs and only lasted a few dozen minutes before needing to be replaced, making shooting a very 'couple of shots at a time' issue.

Here is a pic of my girlfriend. Not the best pic ever, I know.
But the inverter matches Quorra's measurements.
Mine was twice my girl's. Well, like Sam's.
Don't want to sound cocky, but I had to work with both mine and my girldfriend's. And if those are batt packs, where are the inverters? They are really big. They cannot be hidden that easy, batts can.

Whered you find these? Looking for boots for my program

Comparing these to the screenshot, its almost dead on. The only difference is the texture. Looks like the movie version has smooth leather instead of the textured part. Still, I'm sure it was just a mod version of these.

Too bad. I'm sure the A-stars are out of budget for me.

Yup, project box on their lower back to store either the inverter or battery pack. I have one like on my Quorra costume which holds my inverter and the battery pack sits in the back of my disc hub mount like most of the members are doing.

It's not only until a member here posts a photo of their costume regarding the Light Tape or El Tape differences that gets the other members attention. Sheol's and his girl friend's Sam and Quorra costumes are showing the awesomeness of LuminousFilm.com Light Tape. I am redoing my Quorra costume in LF product.

Go with LuminousFilm.com if you want brightness. You will have that Scribe line down the center but makes lile easier to connect more Light Tape together with their eyelet connector wires. Just check out their website to see what I mean. You can also bend the tape in angles. I posted pics demontrating this for my End of Line Waitress costume a few pages back.

LF also offers different widths and their Light Tape glows end to end. Unlike Glowhut's El Tape.

I am posting again the photo of my Light Tape from LuminousFilm.com. This is the same as Sheol used on his costume.

Just a NOTE: this is not the Light Tape from the LIGHT TAPE.com company. This is LuminousFilm.com Lite Tape. They make their own. The LightTape.com company product is way more pricey.

here is the Techincal Information how to make folds and connect the Eyelet Connectors.

WOW! Nice S! and I saw your handy work with Eric's disc mod circle rings and LEDs at Tron Day at Disney. I will be ordering a Quorra white disc mod from you. ;) LOVE IT! I want that brightness!

Hey Anisse! You're wearing the pic I sent you :lol, but I like the chibi Quorra more

Wait! So are you the artist of the artwork I have on my shirt? I wrote the artist on Deviantart the other day asking if I can make their art work into an Iron on for a Tee Shirt. I didn't hear back so I went ahead and did it anyway ;) it is only for my own use and not going to sell it or profit off it in any way.

I just loved that piece so much! I have it on my Desktop computer at home too! :D

I'll be posting more Tron Day Disneyland ElecTRONica pics as they get sent to me!

So glad to see that all you guys had a blast and Security didn't ruin your fun, (so sorry that you were excluded, Annisse... They couldn't stop you from wearing the wig, though. Ha)

Oh, I have my El Wire corset under my shirt. You can kinda see the glow on my sides ;) of course I was going to wear it to ElecTRONica. Security ain't gonna stop me.

Especially now that there were ppl there with full on El Wire and one guy with full on Green El Tape and a light up disc strapped to his back which was a total Tron inspired costume he had on.

Maybe now that security sees more ppl wearing light up costumes to ElecTRONica they will lay off!!
