Hey all,

The bf posted some v1.0 photos of his Tron Dress earlier. He's upgraded it to v2.0 this past week for a party we went to, so I thought I'd throw up some photos showing the changes - EL wire trim on the petals of the dress, and a heart-shaped identity disk:

OH MY GOD, I said this was my favorite costume ever before, I didn't think it could get any better. I am so ridiculously jealous of you!! That is by far, the coolest dress, and the coolest costume I have ever seen. I wish I was talented enough to make something like this. I'm not, so I'll just be jealous of yours, lol, and I'm going to attempt to make Quorra's suit from the movie next year. I made one with glow-in-the-dark fabric paint for the midnight release, and I want to make a better one with EL tape or something, but I have to wait until I get married because of lack of money, lol. Even with that, I have no idea what I'm doing, I've never worked with any EL medium before, but I wanna give it a try, because I love Quorra. Anyway, just wanted to say again, that I have never seen a cooler dress or costume! :thumbsup

Victoria. I am speechless. His craftsmanship is superb!! Look at how beautiful that dress design is! El Tape WINS that is a sure thing the brightness, excellent!

Market that design! Seriously do something about this. His design could be making him some good money. That dress is too good for the world not to see it out there and advertised. Really think you got something good there!!!

That dress is a piece of ART!

Amazing! Really hope I can see his dress creation on you in person one day.

That dress is absolutely fantastic! It fits in perfectly with the Tron-iverse and looks sumptuously beautiful as well!

Victoria: Gorgeous! And yes, feeling the love too ;) Lovelove love the design :)

For fellow Sirens :D I found the heel shape used for the double, it is a little different to the ones used on screen but I really much prefer them. The heel is so very architectural and fits in with the style.
As a reminder, scroll down for the shoes:
Hollywood Movie Costumes and Props: Original Tron Legacy movie costumes and props on display... Original film costumes and props on display

I know of three shoes that use the same mold:
Romantic Soles Pumpkin:
Romantic Soles - Pumpkin (Tan) - Footwear Shoes, Boots, Footwear, Handbags!
Nine West Twisted:
Amazon.com: Nine West Women's Twisted Slide Sandal: Shoes
Nine West taildrop:
Amazon.com: Nine West Women's Taildrop Platform Sandal: NINE WEST: Shoes
Sizing is quite accurate when using international conversion charts (I'd recommend a half size extra though). The sole is a little firm so I am going to be wearing mine with padded inserts so I am quite pleased I went for a whole size too large ;) They are really quite high but the base is a little smaller than the sole so are quite easy to wear. Not too heavy- I think they are partially hollow :)
The toe is a rounded point so hunting out a pair of shoes to pull apart for the toe cap and heel support is going to be quite easy.

I have not been able to find out what the real shoe was for Gem's double I emailed Nine West to find out what other models used the same heel mold but haven't had an answer, which I wasn't really expecting :)

Another shoe with a similar shape to this is the Calvin Klein Yabb sandle. Its quite solid looking too and has a thin platform.

Heaps of shoes on ebay right now just search for cut out wedge.

TRULY AMAZING and AWESOME!!!! Beautiful job!!!

Victoria - That dress is just beautiful! I know your bf used El wiring on the petals of the skirt, but what did he use for lighting the upper part of it?

Definately a supreme job on that dress. I commend you.

I finally got my wetsuit, so I can start working on mine. Got my EL wire earlier in the week and decided to go with my motocross chest armor instead of the stormtrooper armor. Soon, I shall be able to get some lighting worked out, and some progress pics.

Hey everyone. I have been looking through this post for a while and found some really great information.

I am working on a costume for the upcoming convention season ( I am busting out version 1.0 for Chattacon this weekend), and have an article up showing my progress so far.

above is the custom disk holder i made for my jacket. it is lined with magnets on the inside of both the holder and the disk, plus the little tab at the top allows me to pull the disk on and off quickly and safely. my costume company has put those in production, so if anyone needs a way to mount their disk, there is a link in my article.

thanks again for all the information, and i will post pictures of the costume in action after this weekend!

How would one go about attaching said disc holder on a garment? I'm interested in buying one for mine

That jacket is an awesome find.. I was looking for exactly that style as of late. Anymore styles or jackets of this type from that seller that you know of?

Also, I'd like to see the mounting method you use for this Disc Hub you've created.

Great jacket find! Your costume is gonna look RAD! have a great time at CON! :)

My Castor is coming along ok so far. Trying to figure out the EL situation since his lighted sections aren't continuous so it would seem that I'm going to have to run 11 different sections of tape. Ugh! Anyone know how to split an inverter connection? ;-)

I'll post a build thread soon with pics.

Attaching the holder to the garment:
I attached it to the jacket by drilling through the 4 little indentions and then running a bolt and nut to hold it. I used a Dremel to cut off the bolt so it is flush with the nut. I opened the light disk and added magnets (craft magnets bought at Hobby Lobby, then cut in half because they were too wide). Then I super glued the magnets to the inside of the mount which was took a lot of experimentation to get right. You have to hold the disk up to the holder and then put the magnets so they line up with the magnets in the disk. At first, I super glued all the magnets in and they were off just enough to actually push the disk off the holder. I also glued magnets in a full circle inside the holder and doubled them up back to back so it would have as much pull as possible.

The small tab at the top of the holder helps make sure you don't drop the disk. Plus if the disk gets bumped, the tab will keep it from just falling off and the magnets are strong enough to pull the disk back on. After I test run at the con this weekend, I will update everyone (and the design if need be).

I am also looking to add lights to it that turn on and off as I pull my disk off. But that's another project :)

My Jacket:

The jacket I got on ebay by a random person selling an old motorcycle jacket. Its made by Cooltech.

I ordered my pants from Jackets 4 Bikes. They have some good stuff at good prices, you just have to hope they have things in your size. Here is their jacket page : Jackets 4 bikes.

On a side note, for lights on the jacket so far, I mounted super bright LEDs along the edges of the mesh area. I have a skin tight white shirt to wear under the jacket which spreads the light across the mesh area. Ill have pics after the weekend.

Now that's a NICE way of designing your hub(and the Jacket is awesome). :thumbsupThe only prob I can't help seeing is that 'square gap' in the middle of it - could there been a way to fill/close it up before making the mold of it?

I already have it molded with the hole. My plan for that area in the future was to cut it out with a Dremel and put in a frosted piece of plexi. Then put a small led kit to have the center glow. If there is enough interest (meaning preorders here on the forums) I can fill that space and remold it.

Photos of the shoes on my feet:

Madly in love with them, and they really are very tall! A fair bit of work to make them into real shoes but with the base being solid and plastic if it less than with regular heels thank goodness ;)
