Torchwood is back!!! Starts tonight 7/8/11 on Starz - SPOILERS

Walking around Venice Beach in a simulated WW2 RAF wool coat sporting a leather sidearm holster seemed a bit unrealistic.....just a bit.....?

Unrealistic but cool as all hell! Then again, considering the number of strange folk wandering about that place, nothing surprises me anymore. the first time i was at Venice beach i saw an exceedingly convincing ent that was near 9 feet tall...

Oh man, this week's one is brutal. That Doctor really was pretty stupid but I'm glad they aren't shying away from killing characters, even when people "can't die." I was actually guessing they'd be using those modules from episode one, it'd be the only way to handle the situation really.

I was ok with the slow burn for 3 episodes, but 4 is really pushing it. My guess (in good old doctor who fashion) is that this was a 6 part story that Starz wanted turned into a 10 part story, hence the water-treading.

From what I've heard, they originally wanted them to stretch it to 13 episodes. ugh!

Way to slow, but I'll stick it out.

When it's all done I can see someone doing a re-edit compressing it all back down to 4 or 5 episodes.

Much easier to do 10 or 13 episodes when you make it actually episodic, like the show used to be. Making it a single story line makes it MUCH harder to get that length. I want the hub and the rift back :)

Harder, but not impossible. I think both "24" and "Lost" prove it CAN be done.

I think what's really lacking is "the old Jack Harkness". Jack should know more than he does. I've lost some respect for Jack in that he always seemed to be more "on top" of the situation than he is now. It's almost as if he's not in any hurry to find out what's going on - or like he's waiting for the action to pick up along with the rest of us. Without the 'take charge' attitude, Jack isn't moving the story/plot along like he used to.

Also, they spend too much time sitting around the computers. They need to be out more, investigating, following leads, etc.

Of course it CAN be done. Odds are that Davies had a 6 episode story completed, then was asked to stretch it to 10 or 13. If you start out aiming for 10, 13, or 24 episodes it's not that hard to do. But when you're coming from a 6 part story, it is.

I am starting to think that plot line goes back to the first DrWho episode that we see JH in. I am wodering if this could be some chula nanite thing gone totally wrong (or right if that was the intention). We know the nanites survied the episode and that would have given anyone who was pissed off at JH plenty of time to plot and manipulate things.

I am going to watch those episodes again tonight and see if there are any hints in them.

Any thoughts?

Alright, I'm reaching but if after building up that it is an old enemy of JH they come up with someone we have never seen I am going to be pissed :lol:lol:lol .

Unless the Doctor screwed it up, no, the nanites didn't survive the episode. He did an upgrade (restoring everyone's life) and set them to turn off afterward.

Could the bad guys behind Miracle Day be Slitheen? After all the bad guy did say "The Families will Rise". I just doubt see them being believable in this Torchwood

Yeah, I was REALLY concerned that they might bring in Slitheen. If they do, and we get to hear them farting all over the place in their skin suits, it'll ruin Miracle Day. I think, however, they are being too adult for this series than that.

From what I've seen in the trailers for next week I don't think it's nanites or anything from previous Doctor Who episodes. I still think the season is way too slow and basically killed any chance of Torchwood coming back, but it looks like we'll get some answers next week.

First is a little vague

And the second has a pretty big spoiler toward the end

Seriously doubt there will be any DW tie ins (plotwise).
Seriously doubt Torchwood has a future after this season. I've also heard RTD is bailing.
I loved the show but it's a shadow of its formal self.

Ooohhh.. interesting developments this week. Looks like we now know what Jack gave 'the families.' They got his blood, perhaps studied it. I'm not sure how his blood would be enough to work with to make the Miracle Day, but maybe they used some alien tech to invert it somehow. The three guys making the deal held arms in a triangular formation, making the triangle we see when they're communicating through the cell phones.

Glad the American Torchwood agents displayed some intelligence this week.

At least this week we got to see the "Old Jack" - the one who was five steps ahead, who had a plan, charismatic, etc. Not the depressed and doesn't know what's going on Jack that Starz has been giving us.

Torchwood still feels like it's going from 0 to 25 in ten episodes. We've revved up from 13 mph last episode to a nice 17 mph, but we no longer have any hope of reaching expressway speeds. I would be okay with where we are if this was a 22 episode run, but with three episodes left?

I REALLY hope we find out what this is all about next week so they can spend the last two episodes fighting the bad guys and reversing what they've done.

Oh yeah, and Nana Visitor hasn't aged well, but John DeLancie looked like he'll be good.

The does not have the feel or the fun of the original Torchwood. I really do not like it at all but watch it in hopes they will do soemthing interesting.
This week was interesting but lacklucter for me.
How are they doing ratings wise?
