Torchwood is back!!! Starts tonight 7/8/11 on Starz - SPOILERS

Re: Torchwood is back!!! Starts tonight 7/8/11 on Starz

Davies always maintained it was supposed to be an implication, no more and no less. Fans took it as Gospel.

One of the problems with a show like Doctor Who (and to a more extreme - Star Trek and Lost) is that fans will remember everything no matter how insignificant. In Star Trek they'll say "This even happened 200 years ago" and the fan will take it to mean that, on that date exactly 200 years ago that happened. Humans don't speak in specifics (generally), they speak in generalities - thus if Jack says they called him "The Face of Boe" it means that Jack WILL BE The Face of Boe (even though it could also mean "The Face of Boe" is a rough translation for something completely different or maybe the species is called "Boe", etc.).

All this to say - Jack isn't necessarily The Face of Boe.

While I buy the 200 years bit, it'd have to be pretty **** poor writing to have 'The Face of Boe' as a character in multiple episodes and THEN have Jack say they used to call him 'The Face of Boe' and have it not be the same. Not to mention the face has been around millions or billions of years and the only other person we've met who could live that long is the doctor, himself. If you want to leave people with a maybe feeling you don't use the same name verbatim. You make it 'The Boy from Boe' or 'Face of the Boeans' or something else. Not to mention you had everyone else on the set at the time, including the doctor looking at each other like 'Holy crap, it's him?!?!'.

He knew implicitly when writing that and filming it people would take it only one way, that Jack is the face of boe.

It was fun. Felt short and thin on substance but it was a "Hello America, my name is Torchwood" episode so I get that. They shoulda made it a double ep.

Re: In case you missed it. Torchwood is back!!!

anyone also wants that torchwood bomb prop with the world on it cant find anything like it yet

Looks like a Xmas ornament! I'd be up for one as an ornament!:love

So when we last left Capn Jack he was somewhere up in space....... what was he doing up there? How did he manage to monitor what was happening on earth? Why was held up in a small flat in the middle of nowhere with all that high tech equipment?

It is strange why the CIA would all of a sudden be the lead on the Miracle Day investigation and take it back to the USA....possibly because it was cheaper to shoot in the US? Just a different look for the show?

I thought Ep #1 was great and loved the interviews they do after the show. Scenes from next week seem to intensify....is it Friday yet?

Signed up for Starz just for Torchwood on Verizon FIOS. Now I have to extend that subscription for two more months.....10 episodes BUGGAH!

Re: Torchwood: Mirace Day Discussion (probably with spoilers)

I couldn't believe they revealed that Jack is a future version of River Song. It just took the whole direction of both shows into a very weird place.

hang on....what?

and on the matter of Jack being the Face of Boe... how else would the Face of Boe know about the Master when he gave the doctor the message "you are not alone"?

He has a time portal device he wears like a watch. He could go off for years or decades at a time and still pop back to check on her every couple hours in her time.

They've never said what he was doing. David Tennant's finale' was after Children of Men (when he left) and as he was saying his goodbye's, the doctor found him in a bar on another planet or something somewhere.

Wasn't his vortex manipulator disabled after the events in Journey's End? The last time he used it was as a signal for a passing vessel to teleport him off planet after the Children of Earth series. Although it could be a different one which belonged to either Hart or Gray.

It's unclear if he can use it to time travel still. He could have fixed it, he may still have it broken. The writers will determine if they need it or not.

What the hell was up with showing virtually the whole series spoilers in the trail at the end?? :confused

Did they do that in the US screening? After after about three minutes of being 'teased' with every upcoming plot detail I switched over. Not cool :angry

I don't recall seeing anything that gave away spoilers. The only spoillerish thing would be where the guy was told he was now a member of torchwood. Sorta sounded like a 'whether you like it not' thing, too. Then again, maybe I switched off too fast, I don't know.

Are you talking end of E1 or 2? I missed the promo at the end of S1.

At the end of ep1 of the UK screening they did the 'coming up this season' thing, and spoiled seemingly the entire series. It just went on and on, never seen anything like it, gave away the entire paedo guy arc among many other plot elements. Odd, and very annoying.

Sorry, I did not read the rest of the thread.......don't want any spoilers. Last night on the plane, you got a great shot of the soles of Jacks new boots, should make identification a breeze.

On that note, while doing a Google search on it I came up with this
Exclusive First Look: Captain Jack's 'Torchwood: Miracle Day' Makeover

Apparently they have re-designed Jacks Greatcoat for the LA weather.....and updating the look slightly.

Nice find man. Thanks for posting the link!

I have and continue to be a fan of Torchwood but this season is agonizing to watch, they are really stretching it out...

IMO the first two episodes could have been condensed into a streamlined single episode while not missing much resulting in a much better fast paced viewer experience...

I'm thinking Davies had a 5-6 week arc planned and Starz (or whoever is funding it) asked him to stretch it to 10.

Exclusive First Look: Captain Jack's 'Torchwood: Miracle Day' Makeover

I just read this....and if I remember correctly, the greatcoat was made of cotton and not wool for the first two seasons, because John Barrowman has a wool allergy. If this is the case, then I hope the cashmere/wool blend doesn't make him break out in hives.

I want to know how Bill Pullman's character figures into the plot line.

I'm in two minds over this season. On the one hand I'm glad to have it back, but on the other... I kinda got burned out on the world-changing events + epic emotions with the last one. I'd like to have it go back to the earlier feel with more sexy light-hearted hijinks and less angst.

On another note: Who has listened to the Lost Files radio plays? I enjoyed those because they did remind me of the earlier series, and they had Ianto in. The third one (House of the Dead) tho? Ok, that had high emotion, but I totally bought into it. I'm not ashamed to admit that one had me in tears.
