Torchwood is back!!! Starts tonight 7/8/11 on Starz - SPOILERS

I'm thinking Davies had a 5-6 week arc planned and Starz (or whoever is funding it) asked him to stretch it to 10.

Something like that, it's just so dragged out and IMO to much fluff and filler... I can see to some degree they are trying to introduce you to the 'new' characters and show the 'qualities' that make them Torchwood material rather then jump right in... But, at the same time it seems like they are trying too hard to sell the characters abilities and prove they are worthy...

I have and continue to be a fan of Torchwood but this season is agonizing to watch, they are really stretching it out...

IMO the first two episodes could have been condensed into a streamlined single episode while not missing much resulting in a much better fast paced viewer experience...

Oh HELL YES!

It was cool to see them passing around Jack's Vortex Manipulator (and to see Wayne Knight!).

I thing the who story arch with no smaller stories is a bad idea. So far this season really has no individual story lines for each of the shows, it is all building to the end of the season. They really should have done it like Torchwood originally started. I think the first series they both had great indiviual stories but also built to the end of the season. The redhead is hot and seems to be in the middle of it somehow??? :)

Loved Ep #2!!! Thank goodness the American trailers are just teasers! I started watching Ep #2 and was POed when the 52 minutes had passed. Without commercials you really get pulled into the show!!!! I can't wait for Friday to roll around again!

Bill Pullman's character becomes the savior / leader of the group that wears those masks. I don't know all the details but that is just from some of the articles I read online and mags. Not a spoiler by any means.

I like the line in which Gwen Cooper says to be careful with Captain Jack's coat! The entire airplane sequence to make EDTA was hilarious. Great moment for Eve Miles to put her acting chops out there!

You can tell how they have upped the SPFX on this version which so far has been great. It appears they have a much larger budget to work with!

Only thing is that Capn Jack hasn't had the opportunity to break out his Webley. Most scenes he doesn't even have it holstered which makes me wonder did he already loose it?

"Who are you people?" "We're Torchwood!"

I love Torchwood. I think this season is much better than the previous.

Anyone else kinda impressed by the acting job Bill Pullman is doing? He must be using the Schwartz.

I liked episode 2 MUCH more than the first. Now we're getting into some action and further into the mystery of Miracle Day.

And YES, Bill Pullman actually had me a little sympathetic for his character. Watching him load up a garbage bag with food and carrying it off th elevator showed just how pathetic existance he's expecting at this point.

I still want the doctors in the show to directly address whether or not wounds are healing still though. Sure, people aren't dieing from wounds, but are their wounds going through a process of healing? Are bones knitting, wounds closing and scarring over, etc? They should have seen something by now.

Just watched the first episode and Where is the bloody Webley?!

Well, better he takes an AR15 and a Stinger shoulder launched missile up against an attack helicopter than a six shot revolver.

I get the attachment to the Webley, but really, it's an archaic pistol that doesn't serve his needs in a modern world.

Just wait until Episode Three. Gwen really gets some good lines and scenes in Dead of Night. I've already seen it and things are getting good!

As for the Webley, it was destroyed when Jack blew up in the Hub. That's why he doesn't have it anymore.

I just read this....and if I remember correctly, the greatcoat was made of cotton and not wool for the first two seasons, because John Barrowman has a wool allergy. If this is the case, then I hope the cashmere/wool blend doesn't make him break out in hives.

Original Torchwood greatcoat was made of cotton moleskin because of John's allergy to wool. The one used in his first appearances in Doctor who wasn't, which is why he had the scarf on to prevent his skin from touching it.

As for the new coat, the costume designer said they lined everything to make sure John wouldn't have an allergic reaction to the cashmere/wool blend.

I liked ep2 more than ep1 but imo, ep1 and ep2 should have been joined and aired together. Whole lotta intro. Feels like Torchwood Lite to me so far. Tastes great, less filling.

have not seen any spoiler previews...which is nice.

Agreed with combining the first two episodes. Also, I think Gwen can stop saying "Torchwood." Whenever she says it, it sounds cheesy - it's like she has to remind the audience they're watching Torchwood.

Healing - I've been wondering this also. It seems like they're avoiding it on purpose. I would think they would heal - otherwise the main FBI guy would still be bleeding like crazy.

Jack's gun - it would only make sense that his gun was destroyed if his coat and Vortex Manipulator were also destroyed (though it doesn't make sense he still has these item).

Oddly enough, I don't care much about continuity this time around.

Anyone notice the hologram on the I.D. card is upside down?
Sorry about the size of the image.

Great episode.

So...4 episodes in and I gotta say I'm a disappointed. Plotwise, the show has no meat. I mean, it's a slow crawl. Definitely has me yearning for the old "creature of the week" format or at the very least a smaller arc like Children of Earth. I feel like every ep ends and nothing really happened. Still like Gwen and Jack but Rex and Esther blow. I'll probably stick it out but after 4 eps...not impressed.

I agree, it's plodding along. Parts are good, but they could have easily condensed the 4 episodes down to 2 or 3. I'm hopeful that it will start to pick up as the series gets past the halfway point.

Perhaps we regular viewers are spoiled. One co-worker was telling another about it the other day. I stood up to listen to her describe the story so far. They didn't know I was a big fan, or that it had been a regular BBC series prior. The one explaining it seemed to really like the show, and got the other interested in checking it out. Of course, I jumped in when they were done and gave them a bit of extra info about the previous series and origins. :)

I was ok with the slow burn for 3 episodes, but 4 is really pushing it. My guess (in good old doctor who fashion) is that this was a 6 part story that Starz wanted turned into a 10 part story, hence the water-treading.

Walking around Venice Beach in a simulated WW2 RAF wool coat sporting a leather sidearm holster seemed a bit unrealistic.....just a bit.....?
