thats just what we need. Now we need to find out what language thatis and get it on our computers!

The Shinano is a 1/700 Tamiya kit. There is a retooled
shinano currently available, but the parts you need do
not come with the retooled version(31215).

Zac

OK, the hobby shop I went to had two different versions of the Shinano with two different kit numbers. I have to check the box again for the 31215 number - there is also a different number; 2200 on one, I think 2600 or 2800 on the other? Anyway, one was $39, the other was $29! I bought the less expensive one, not to be cheap, but because it had the lower number and I was hoping that it would be the older kit. I can't vouch for the other kit, but the one I bought seems to have the right parts.

As a side note, it is a pretty neat model. I would almost consider getting the newer version just to build it.

There was no trace of the wing-hub braces that I am looking for, or any other parts that I could recognize from the bomber.

Barnstormer, did you check the underside of the flightdeck?
Look at the very front and back of the part. They need to be
cutup and trimed down to the correct size to fit the hub sides.

So, my hobby shop has two versions of the Tamiya Shinano in 1/700. One kit is numbered #210 and the other one is #215. Does anyone know which one is the correct kit to buy for this project? Thanks.

I thought I did... I'll look again. I'd love to find them there.

Too many models... A co-worker just sold me a Cowboy Bebop Swordfish II that he bought, and then was too intimidated to do. I'm gonna be up all night...

I don't think that those hub parts could be derived from the Shinano deck. If you look at the photo of them, the ribs are not evenly spaced, and there is a small edged lip on the wing-side of the joint. I'm betting that they are 'real' parts - I'm just not sure from what...

And boy, I would never have looked at the 25pdr. field gun. That kit is a basher's dream, great raw materials in there.

Hey everyone, I've got a new kit to add the list.
It's none other than the 1/24 airfix harrier!
This will get you the detail for the outside of
tubes facing the inner wings. You will need two
kits if you are not using cast parts. Enjoy!

Zac

Zac.

Great find. That part was a tough one. Now if we can find those ribbed pieces on the wing pylon covers and that piece under the Rodney part up front, will have them all (I think). Thanks for the help and for sharing it.

Hey Rolando.

A few posts back you said something about Uwe Fisher photo's of the "second" TIE Bomber that was built. What did you mean? I thought they only built one of these? How do you know they had a second one?

-emojo5

My mistake, my references where mixed up with images of the TIE Bomber prior to it being mishandled and parts missing. The one seen in the "Art of Star Wars" and the one seen at MoM are one in the same.

Sorry for the confusion, I apologize.

Rolando

So then can anyone answer this one?

Why does the TIE Bomber in the Chronicals book not have that still unknown piece just under the "Rodney" decking piece, at the very front, and the photos of it in Washington D.C. and Brooklyn show that piece in place? I know that during it's travels things got knocked off, but when did this piece get put on? And does this then make this piece "unofficial" to the ships original state because it was added after filming?

Here's my take on this part.

The part could have very well been there from the beginning. The picture angles in the Chronicles book make it hard to tell if it's there or not. One thing is for sure, from the time that the archive pictures were taken and how the TIE Bomber looks to date are different, it's been touched up paint wise. There's a series of dark gray marks throughout the entire model now that weren't there when they took the archive pictures. There's even one of the Flak gun parts that sit on the sides of the missile launch opening that is painted dark Grey now but wasn't originally.

It's really hard to tell what's going on with many of these models since they were handled so much throughout the years since then. It's funny though at times when a part has been broken off and some caring display handler will glue the part back on only they'd glue it on wrong! That happened with the Escape Pod where a part somehow broke off and was glued back on incorrectly to the point that now on reference drawings they even show it wrong. So much for good intension's.

Happy New Year, everyone.

I'm just finishing the ground work on this replica. Just about ready to start building it. I was wondering if anybody else was working on their own TIE Bomber? If so did any of you every find this model piece? I think it may come from one of the Tamiya 1/20 or 1/12 scale car kits, but another member thinks it might be from a Tamiya 1/700 scale ship kit. Anybody have any thoughts on this part? Thanks for any help you might be able to offer.
