Ive been working on this for a bit, hoping to get done before halloween and the Nov 8 release date of the movie. Heres what ive done on the chest piece so far, its going to take more finishing, im going to see if i can smooth out the vinyl with some kind of heated tool. Im still trying to figure out what to use for the thin metal piece in the center of the chest so id appreciate any thoughts you guys have on that. Id also appreciate any advice on cape fabric, i tried velvet for my 'Avengers' Thor and that didnt work out too well.

let me know what you guys think

Looking good so far! As far as the cape fabric, I believe reading somewhere it was made of wool, at least in the first Thor movie, I think it was. It moves like wool anyway. But wool, especially nice wool that will move well can be expensive, so the couple times I've done Thor builds, I've always gotten a rayon blend. Rayon is drapey and swooshy, but not too pricey, which is nice. If you can find it, I recommend rayon, or even a poly blend that's meant to imitate silk maybe. You just want something with a nice drape to it.
Keep up the good work!

yea, I purchased a nice burgundy redish fabric that is heavy and draping from hancock fabric, will work nice and I think it was a rayon blend,as for the armored arm shirts, what are you using,Ive got mine and will be finishing in a week, using chrome lame quilted fabric, re-cross sewing to make 1/2 blocks with white thread, sprayed with fabric spray dye and then wiped off 2-3 times, make it look like black chrome.....my suit build is on this site, just havent up dated yet.....

craft foam scales painted with gesso, im going to have to build a little bit of muscle onto the sleeves. Ive done it once before for my 'Avengers' Thor build so i think i can do it better this time around

Looks great so far, you really nailed the shape I like it. I'm also making this costume for one of my sons and am trying to get it done before the movie. I am planning on making the metallic piece on the chest out of sintra; mainly because I have a whole sheet of it, and it paints nicely. Can't wait to see the rest of your build.

getting down to crunch time, heres a picture of the chestplate with the 'metal' pieces added, im afraid im down to my cellphone camera so theyre not as good, but i got some process too

Ive got a few in progress pictures of the bracers and the boots, ill try to get those up if anyone's interested

Looking good.
Saw the movie yesterday and there was a guy in there with a similar costume
Would be fun to see the bracers and the boots :)

Looks great! Love to see more WIP pics. What material did you use for it? Does not look like foam...

it was some cheap thin vinyl that i glued over craft foam to give it some depth, i used some placemats for the textured bits, but i need to get them painted so they look like leather

just got back from the movie, it was really pretty good, id probably say better than the first, better than iron man 3. I didnt see anything in particular that showed that i got something wrong. There are a few inaccuracies i already knew were in my costume, but for the most part im ok with them.

*edit*

Except for the coloring, i knew id have to make the metal more silver and less bronze, and to also 'brown up' the leather a bit

That is a really nice pattern for an 'avengers' thor, I also built one of those last year, here's a link to the thread with pics http://www.therpf.com/f78/first-post-thor-cosplay-192334/

When i built that one i used craft foam, painted over it with gesso, and then painted that in the appropriate colors. The biggest challenge was figuring out how to do the layers so that the right parts of the pattern were raised. Ive also heard some people talk about using vinyl or any other kind of fake leather, and you could glue that over craft foam like i did on my 'dark world' thor.

Thanks for the tip, also though what I meant was I was trying to get the dark world theme of the outfit instead of the avengers look and there are NO patterns out there to go from. I'm kinda new to all this. :p

well, ive kinda been cutting mine up as ive been building it, but i have been taking pictures of them as i go

not great pictures, but i hope they help. I will tell you if you use anything off that boot pattern i did, that front-most section should be skinnier, ive kinda fixed mine but it was a problem from the get-go.

oops sorry I didnt see those before! awesome though. would you mind if I put these into Illustrator to kind of make a reference credit would still certainly go to you and if you wanted to share the pattern it'd be pretty helpful for others too. Completely up to you.

No worries, only one of those had been posted before. Im still waiting for the 'Art of Thor: the dark world' to come out to see if theres anything i need to tweak but i think i had good enough reference to work off of. Nbehelings pattern is pretty good too.

Most of them are still fairly intact. Its the chest one i had to do the most cutting on, i could probably tape it back together and get some better pictures taken
