The Video Game Thread - anything and everything...

My 21yo nephew has been playing that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 game. He told me yesterday that he wanted to let me know it had quicktime events in case I play it, "since I'm older". I was like "Thanks..." and he said "Well I had trouble with them so..."
I've only played the opening sequence, but the whole gaming community is gushing about the game. I'm impressed so far

I ordered a physical copy of it, but Amazon.ca still hasn't got their shipment. I don't think anyone was expecting the game to be a sell out at launch so it's hard to find a physical copy right now.

Haven't not really kept up with many new games the last few years, I only first heard about Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 right after it released....and only the name, not anything about the game itself. Until a friend asked if I was playing it.
He told me its a turn based RPG similar to Final Fantasy. Thats really all I know, but that, along with all these raving reviews, I know I'll have to try it out soon. I'm just SO far behind on games now.

I can't stop going back to old games. I finish a game and fully intend to play something I have, but haven't gotten to yet. I keep going back to what I know is fun. I miss the mid-late 90s when I was young (teenager anyway) and had time to just waste with any new demo or game. Now time is short so I think "Should I waste time on a new game I might not like or go to what I know is great?"

Time gets so precious as you age. Before I would spend hours doing nonsense things in a game like jumping off the highest point on a map or seeing how many times I can flip a car. Now, I feel like once I beat a game I have to move on otherwise I'm just 'wasting time'. I don't even try to 100% a game unless I can do so in a reasonable time.

I played a few old games in my time, I remember two of them, which are different from each other but had a lot of joy playing them.

The first is, or better said are, Carnivores series, where you are a hunter, you get some weapons and are dropped on a planet to hunt dinosaurs. When you kill a dinosaur, a cool starship comes and picks it up for your trophy room:

The second game I played and loved it, simply because you could turn your car with the mouse, and not the arrow keys, was Midtown Madness. You can have a few options of vehicles to choose from (sport cars, police cruiser, truck, bus etc), and drive in Chicago, San Francisco and London. You could win some amazing racing cars if you are good enough.

I do wonder if it is that great. I do hear good things about it, even from people who play alot of games, but the gushing seems a bit too much. Despite the "indie" title being made by a relatively smaller group of former Ubisoft developers, the game's budget is larger than other AAA games like Nintendo's Breath of the Wild thanks to funding from alot of major sources (Epic, Microsoft, the French government, etc.)

Also seems alot of hype comes from people who just dont play RPGs and think turn-based is just people attacking and waiting for their turn which was true in maybe the early 90s (and even then, there were specific jobs for characters and planning and set up for attacks like Chrono Trigger waiting for good enemy positioning to maximize damage with a tech or AOE attacks using more MP than single-target). The "parry/dodge" system and timing to increase damage quick-time events that this game is praised for have also already been staples for RPGs for a good while now (Super Mario RPG in 1996 already had this with timed attacks and pressing at just the right time for incoming attacks to reduce damage which is a thing in modern RPGs as well like Like a Dragon with just guard and quick time inputs for attacks).

Edit: apparently I was wrong regarding the budget although it did receive quite a bit of funding they arnt being very clear about but mention it may cost less than games like Vanquish or Mirrors Edge (which also isnt clear but Vanquish was estimated to be $10M to 30M.)

Kept hearing rumors about this FF Tactics Remaster, but guess Square finally officially announced it.
Still haven't heard if the rumored FF9 Remake is true or not, but plenty people believe it is.

Just pre-ordered it digitally and if it gets a physical release I will buy it again. This is a must have game.
I've played the original PS1 version SO many times.
This battle still gives me PTSD...as does it so many others. I wonder if they have a way to NOT get save locked from it now.

Definitely getting this and hope it has a physical release (and not limited like they did for pixel remaster).

Maybe unpopular opinion but I would also honestly appreciate an FF7 remake like remake of FF tactics. Im personally not a huge fan of the tactics like gameplay but the story is one of the best in gaming.

Yes, essentially a modern Mass Effect game telling a side story in the Expane events.

Konami just announced Bloober Team doing the remake of the original Silent Hill. First time the original game has ever gotten any type of additional treatment.
