The Video Game Thread - anything and everything...

So...

After 2 and a half days loading my games on this POS, I take it home, set it up, turn it on, and pop in a DVD.
DVD doesn't play. I get a warning saying it can't log me in or something.
So I set it to "Offline" and restart it. Same warning, still won't play DVDs.
Are you telling me I can't even watch DVD's with this thing without an internet connection????
That was my SOLE REASON for buying it!!!
Getting ready to call customer service and see what they have to say about it.
If I can't watch DVDs on this thing, then I'm taking it back.
Beyond P:ISSED right now.

Edit: Well, Xbox customer service wants a serial number and registration number and crap before they'll even talk to me, so **** it.
This thing's going back where it came from. Thanks for nothing, Microsoft.

To be fair, Microsux did say a whole bunch of crap about that POS, like requiring to be connected, requiring a kinect this and that. They backtracked on some of it and what have you but yeah, that does sound about right :p

In my case, PS4 instead, bye bye Don.

Hilarious piece of entertainment:
:lol :lol

Fish that move out of the way!!!!!!!!! Just like they did on the Nintendo 64, like in Mario 64, a launch title, way back in 1996. :lol :facepalm "rocket science" :lol

PS4 plays dvds/blu-rays just fine :) never had to do any updates or be online in order to watch any - yet. Though the problem with all of these consoles is the lack of storage! I laughed when M$ announced the specs for the Xbox Turd, I laughed again when Sony announced the specs for the PS4. Not enough RAM and not enough storage. 2TB would have to be a minimum, with all of their BS about "downloading most games", "game discs are a thing of the past" etc.

Did you install the blu Ray player app?

Did you install the blu Ray player app?

Should I have to go online and download a blu-ray app for a product sold as a blu-ray player,
or should it play blu-rays out of the box it came in with the blu-ray logos printed on every side?
Call me old fashioned, but I think a product should do what it claims to do, right out of the box.
For the record, I wasn't trying to play a blu-ray - just a normal DVD.
It wouldn't even do that.
Doesn't matter, anyway - it's gone now.

After finishing The Witcher 3, minus one DLC, I have to say again, go buy this immediately. If you're on PC it's probably on sale on Steam now.
One of my pet peeves in video games is when characters treat your character like a chump. They handle it the best, that I've seen, in The Witcher 3 where a lot of times something happens and another character will step in an say "You idiot, he's a Witcher." and the other guy backs down.

Guess you'll have to get a PS2, as it can perfectly play a DVD. haha
That was such a nice feature when it came out back in the day.

I got it as a Christmas gift and I'm really enjoying it so far(PS4). I do have the second one on my 360 but I never got very far into it. Just couldn't figure out the combat system enough to not get killed. 3 seems more fluid and easier for some reason and I haven't gotten frustrated (yet, lol).

Microsoft's shenanigans is what made me switch consoles, for what it's worth. That HHD size for both is ridiculous though....

Yeah, as I mentioned, BOTH systems are seriously lacking. I have had a full PS4 hdd for quite some time now, so I have games I can't play because I need disc space to do this and that. Will upgrade from the lame 500gb to a 2TB drive fairly soon.

before E3 2013 I had never bought anything SONY. I own the original Xbox and Xbox 360, had no intention of switching, but microsoft, in my opinion forced me to abandon them for the obvious better product, the Playstation 4.

This whole experience reminds me of this:
WARNING: Not safe for work or kids.

:thumbsup that is a lot of swearing. Never seen that before :lol

I was agreeing with you about it;). I've been rotating "apps" for over a year because of it, really frustrating whether it's a game for me, wife or kids. I've recently started shopping around for a bigger one and I think that a 2TB is just the way I'm going to have to go as well.

Awesome :)
I will be going with the Samsung Seagate M9T 2TB, which many have used successfully.
A how-to: https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-change-a-playstation-4-pro-hard-drive

Another funny thing: the PS4 comes with 500GB, out of which, 90-something GB is used up by the system itself. Meaning the actual storage available is just over 400GB in reality :facepalm

When I recently bought my PS4 Pro I literally had it filled up in a week. I don't think I will go as far as to bother to upgrade the HD, but I do plan on buying an external HD to back the system up on periodically. Maybe even a couple 1tb external HD's now that I think about it. My internet connection is so slow it can take me days of just leaving the system in rest mode downloading.

I still think you got a bum XB1. I never had ANY of the issues you're talking about and love mine.

But to each their own!

Hooked my Netflix One back up today and picked up a game called Rocket League on the advice of a friend. I'm probably late to the party as always, but man, what a fun game!

oh yah Rocket League is a great game. the Delorean you can get as DLC is so sweet too. wheels flip up when you fly around

and seeing all these xbox/ps4 issues, makes me glad I went PCmasterrace again, no issues ever plus Oculus Rift with Touch controllers now. Gamer nirvana reached

I have a gaming PC as well, this iteration of my PC gaming has given me very few issues, but over the last ten years of gaming on PC I found myself buying console versions of games over the PC ones because of the litany of issues I have had to deal with. Now the only PC games I buy are the exclusives I can't get on console.
