The Video Game Thread - anything and everything...

Little Nightmares 1 &2, Inside, Omno, Superliminal, Ori and the Blind Forest, Control and Mass Effect 3 are a handful I have enjoyed recently.

Original arcade version of Bad Dudes is up on PSN. Must have rented the Nintendo version a hundred times as a kid.

According to a YouTuber that covers games like Cyberpunk, CDPR has apparently at least hinted at wanting to make a sequel to Cyberpunk. When you think of it, it makes sense. Despite the rocky launch and bugs, the game has sold really well and CDPR has made good money off of it, even with the refunds. It actually saw a resurgence in popularity around mid-summer of this year after one of the patches. So, I wouldn't count out the possibility of a sequel just yet.
Is there a reputable place out there to get this for PC cheaply? Amazon, steam, etc all still list it at 60 bucks. After hearing you guys talk, i figured at 20ish bucks or so it was worth a try, but I don't recognize any of the companies listing it.

This website is actually owned by CD Projekt which might be why it's only on sale there.

You can get it on GOG (the digital store CDPR owns) for 50% off on their winter sale right now.

Im not too informed on CP2077’s development but it does seem like a game “ruined” by suit interference.

CP2077 was originally going to be third person like their best selling game, Witcher 3. Would have been smarter too since they could likely reuse engines/port environments, etc to reduce the workload. But due to the popularity of first-person, the suits wanted CP2077 to be first person.

The game also suffered from overpromise, underdeliver. The game was overhyped with features the devs couldnt deliver so the final result (lifepaths having no meaning, no various multiple endings) couldnt be delivered although no game has done that successfully. Maybe Detroit Become Human has come closest but thats an all story game.

CP2077 is likely going to get DLC. Said free but could be paid in the future. Probably holding off until a final complete version with all the fixings is released.

To be fair, being able to update games post release has saved games. Days Gone was apparently quite buggy when first released but is now one of the best single player zombie games imo.

I bought Cyberpunk at full price and I actually think it was well worth it. 50% off is definitely worth it.

I finally found a new game I actually want to play. The game "Iron Harvest" is a RTS set in an alternate WW1 with mechs and things. I haven't tried it yet, but have had it wishlisted for a while because PC Gamer gave it a good review and it looks pretty cool.

I can't stand RTS gaming, but that game's setting did look really intriguing.

And I concur that CP2077 is worth the full cost. At 50%, that's a bargain. You'll get your money's worth for sure.

Im not a gamer. But the kids i mentor are. They are telling me they are possibly going to stop making ps5? Is there any truth to that?

They said something like there is 10 million ps5’s on the planet right now, and 141million ps4’s

Just curious if anyone else heard with the microchip shortage that the chips required for ps5’s are going to more important things?

Nah, a Pro version would still be at least two years away. Regular edition has only been out a year.
Unless a redo/update/whatever makes them more money by keeping the MSRP the same and lowering production costs. Short of that, no change coming makes a sense at all.

Stores can't keep them in stock - it's a cash machine for them right now, not something you mess with.

maybe thats the rumor then? because the new platform is around the corner? idk

No. PS5 is just released so that will be the main console Sony will be selling.

There was a cut in the number of consoles produced/released due to current chip shortages but that is due to component shortages and logistic constraints driven by the global chip shortage.

The global chip shortage seems to be driven by both a huge increase in demand for chips (smart and IoT products including cars, electronics, etc.) and general shutdown/slow down in manufacturing due to COVID.

Sony is definitely not going to end production on the PS5 although they seem to be changing up the system design to address the shortages. PS5 slim is most likely going to be a thing maybe 2~3 more years down the line in 2023 (slim version seems to take 3 to 4 years after release of initial console judging from PS2~4). Given delays due to COVID, this could be extended to 2026 to be fair.

Not sure about PS5 Pro but that is way down the line. Pro was created as a new high-end model to support gaming in 4K. This is pure speculation but PS5 is already capable for 4K,120 fps, and ray-tracing so unless there is another big jump in resolution requirements (8K gaming), I dont think we can necessarily expect a PS5 Pro. PS4 Pro was also announced after slim was confirmed and about to be released as a mid-gen upgrade to the console. Given we have no imminent release of a PS5 slim, let alone rumors confirming a slim, any talk of a PS5 Pro is likely BS.

Thanks for clearing this up. So they don’t have anything to really worry about, just seems like it will still be hard to get the next year or two

Yeah it will still be hard to get.

To be fair, and this is just my opinion though, there arnt really any PS5 only games that are must haves right now. The big titles coming out in 2022 (Horizon Forbidden West and God of War: Ragnarok) are coming out for PS4 as well and the other big games (Spiderman, Wolverine) are coming out in 2025 and TBD respectively. The big ones that are PS5 exclusives are Demon's Souls (a remake of a PS3 game), Death Stranding (just additional content), FFVII remake (just additional content), Ratchet and Clank, and Returnal.

Hopefully Sony will have addressed their logistics issues and chip manufacturing is back on track again by that time, even if COVID is ongoing.
