The Video Game Thread - anything and everything...

Picked up Cyberpunk for $9 on black Friday. So far it's great, no glitches and runs super smooth on my Series X.
I got it last year shortly after Christmas and had few problems on my old PC until near the end. I still have it installed and am waiting for CDPR to release the promised DLC.

I liked Cyberpunk better than some GOTY games I've played in the last couple years. You can tell some of it was unfinished, mainly doors you know you were supposed to be able to enter that have guards at the door. I didn't play until around four months after launch, on PC, but I had very few bugs. I think I encountered an elevator that wasn't there and then the areas where cars just fly off the road or crash around. I liked the game so much I immediately started a new game after the first, which I haven't done many times. Of course that doesn't excuse the state of the game. I included that because if you don't people on game site comments go nuts like you're an apologist for the company...

My personal theory as to why the game was released in the state that it was was because of investor pressure. They already delayed it once and I bet that the CEO of DCPR didn't want to go to the investors and tell them that they would have to delay the game again. I'm pretty sure that CDPR was being pressured pretty heavily by their investors to release the game as soon as possible, bugs or no bugs, so long as it was playable and even if it meant removing promised content. Removing content and features was probably the only way they managed to get the game out when they did.

I'll eventually revisit the game. I haven't started a new game because it's still too fresh in my mind and I don't feel like starting from scratch so soon. I'm hoping that the DLC will you to continue from a previously saved game, either as a side mission or missions before the end game or some kind of continuation, although I'd imagine that a continuation of the story would be something they'd leave for a sequel.

I'm going to wait until CDPR releases a Cyberpunk Gold Edition like they did with Witcher III. Just re-release the game after all the patching is done and all the DLC is added into one final package. Then I'll pick it up.

Corporations suck :)

If you plan on getting it for the PC, it's in a more than playable state right now. The PC version was playable with minimal bugs almost from its original release. In fact, they even patched a very useful bug that allowed you to exploit the dropbox system and sell an item endlessly for all the money the dropbox contained. Luckily, I made more than enough money by the time they fixed that bug. Perhaps my only real complaint about the game is that after a while none of the NPC vendors or dropboxes have anything worth buying, the only thing worth buying after a certain point is cars. But even then, with the number of nice cars, you can get for free, even buying cars starts to become uninteresting after a while. But, that's not really until mid to late game. Early game when you don't have much of anything, money is very important for buying better weapons, upgrades, and cybernetics.

This should have some people excited, or at least cautiously optimistic. Telltale Games is going to be releasing a new Star Trek game in Spring of next year called, Star Trek: Resurgence. I don't know much about it except that it's going to be set shortly after TNG and will follow two chracters.

Oh that was definitely it. It's also sad so many companies haven't learned from previous games' failures. I liked KOTOR 2, but it was another example of a game rushed out to meet a deadline. I've seen interviews with some of the developers on Cyberpunk 2077 and they were really upset because they believed in the game and put a lot of work into it. The one guy who was interviewed teared up because of how they were treated by fans when it wasn't their fault.

I'll be waiting for the PS5 version. No way I'll have a PC that could run it optimally any time soon, and I generally prefer playing on console to PC in anything but RTS games.

Despite the advanced nature of the game, it actually plays very well on older PCs. Mine is a pre-Ryzen AMD with DDI3 RAM and a previous generation video card and it ran just fine and looked pretty good too. But, I can appreciate wanting for a next-generation console, although I'm not a console person myself. I haven't kept up with the status of the next-generation console versions, I think that it's in a pretty playable state as is, but that's just my impression based on what I've seen in some videos.

Seeing OLED switches everywhere now, Target, Walmart. Must have got a huge shipment in. Walmart had the faster delivery date just a few days.

Yeah my PC is going on 8 years old in Jan. I have an Intel i7-4770k, 16GB RAM, and an EVGA GTX 980ti (which is the only upgrade after 780ti died). I ran Cyberpunk on medium and it still looks awesome.

I'm hoping to upgrade this year, but who knows if I could even find a graphics card! There wouldn't be much point to building a new PC and then having to buy an older gen card for it.

Use nowinstock.net

I was able to get one at MSRP that way. Took 4 weeks, but still better than spending 2k+ on a card.

I'd echo most comments on CP2077. It's a solid game for what it is. It ran fine for me from launch, although I had a bleeding-edge rig when it launched, so that helped a bunch. There were a handful of weird bugs here and there, some of which still remain (I still can't pick up that deck of card on the floor of my apartment...), but most of the game seems pretty smooth now. They changed a little bit, too, like providing more voiceover artists for the ads that run in the game (game-world ads, not real-world ads). Used to be mostly one dude (who was funny, but a little on the nose).
I've played only a few minutes of the earliest quests in my 2nd playthru (did street kid male first time, now doing corpo female), but got sidelined by a 2nd run of Wrath of the Righteous and maybe finally finishing AC Brotherhood which I've been meaning to do for the last, oh, 12-ish years.

Still, if you see it on sale, it's worth a buy. You can likely scale it down from the top end graphics. I'll also advise if you're only gonna play it once, to do EVERYTHING you can. All the quests, all the side gigs, all the odd jobs, buy all the cars, collect as many guns as you can (you can't get them all in a single playthru I think) and go for the "secret ending." It's worth it.

Other than that, waiting on the DLC whenever that finally arrives.

I will add that my only Cyberpunk complaint really is that there is almost zero difference between lifepaths other than a few missions. I wanted them to be completely different, but I think they had to consolidate everything into one story once they knew they wouldn't be able to finish how they wanted.

The sad part, and I may be wrong, is that the way they released this might kill any future games set in this universe. I think it's really cool and has a great look.

According to a YouTuber that covers games like Cyberpunk, CDPR has apparently at least hinted at wanting to make a sequel to Cyberpunk. When you think of it, it makes sense. Despite the rocky launch and bugs, the game has sold really well and CDPR has made good money off of it, even with the refunds. It actually saw a resurgence in popularity around mid-summer of this year after one of the patches. So, I wouldn't count out the possibility of a sequel just yet.
