The Ultimate Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi Real Vintage Parts Lightsaber Group

Something cool from a few days ago. We know for sure they had at least one Exactra 20 or TI-2000 on set as both Obis and Vaders sabers have parts from them. The clamp card and bubbles on my build are now from the same calculator!

I had to show off the latest addition to my collection. This wonderful condition flash hider. Truly stunning and in owe of it, the smell the age the condition. Blessed to have this in my collection and to look after it for a while to come.
It’s attached to a Romans muzzle or booster, which I have weathered and painted and added a solder ‘weld’ to.
Lastly I added an old split pin to give that extra touch of illusion.

I'm sure it's probably been pointed out before, but just in case it hasn't. This is my take on at least two Obi-Wan sabers being made. Pics 1 and 2 (chronicles and death star screengrab) have matching marking on the emitter, but no silver inside. All the while pics 3 and 4 (facing Vader and after being struck down) do not have the marking, but have matching silver inside. Just my two cents.

My all time favorite thread

Couldn’t resist but to show a pic of the new build.

What I love about this one is that pretty much all of the patina is original, particularly on the mk1. No crazy major messing on required, I just darkened the lower portion of the neck a tad to match the vane.. and that’s it.

But yes, all vintage as always :) Got some fresh cubes and a frosted/round strip on the way from Schrödinger soon. Blessed.

Properly in love with this thing.

Chris this is a thing of absolute beauty, and to honor what you've put together....homage to the work you do and thankfulness to help you've provided....for the first time I would like to share my build, that you've had quite the hand in helping me with....so thank you for this...thank you very much for helping make this a reality....

This too is fully vintage with middle bits on the way (so the middle for right now is Roman's, until the frosty bit and the clampy bits arrive) and not a hair hath been touched from it's true vintage appearance and natural coverings. I kinda like it that way.

Also a huge thank you to the Ultimate Kenobi GOATS, SYM, SJUA...and too many of you guys to name lol....but reading and learning was fascinating....and I enjoyed it.

Was going to ask when I saw your build on Facebook but what’s with the gold clamp ? Has it been painted ?

The next thing I want to do is try and track down some of the MA transistors, I have the 11’s but I want to go for a more genuine look ;)

It looks brass doesn't it lol...like seriously I thought it was but that just couldn't be, not for this, too low of a melting point. That color, though I haven't run down the comp of it yet, it could be Inconel mixed with a slight bit of copper. Many afterburner jet engine rings are made this way as are jp5 or jp7 fuel nozzles on occasion. I sent a pic of my 2 BP clamps to a buddy who was a N. engineer in the Navy, to see if maybe he would have experience with it. No responses yet. I need to dig in and research if they moved into that area of income copper mixtures for the clamps. But for sure it's a beauty and I'm pretty lucky to have it.

I'll post back when I discover anything new, or here from my buddy. Thanks for asking, it really stumped me at first too. JediSeth, awesome guy he is, was the source for my first one, so when I got this other out sheer luck, I was like whoa is this real lol. Though I knew it was, I also knew I'd dig to find out all the deets on it. :)

And I wouldn’t get hung up on frosted bubbles. My reference shows you can see through the lens backing.
Thanks for that kind sir. I personally can't find a good enough logic to conclude this would be the material as it's heat tolerance, while clearly better than any brass compound, is still far below that of the Inconel Copper combination. That blend is specifically used today in the same or similar applications. I'm pretty confident of the material, though I don't have the concrete proof. I could shave a small bit and have my wife use her mass-spectrometer at work to confirm, but I'll save that for a later date when I maybe have another one in lesser condition. I do though have some feelers out and hope they come back with some good info. I will feel more confidence hopefully once he responds and if I can locate some details on the clamp. But of course you could be accurate in this assessment as we all know, just because something seems right doesn't make it true. Will let the facts lead the way.

My reasoning for a Wendy's frosted fully rounded beauty, 1: I let one get away that I shouldn't have, so I'm a little butthurt over that miss and maybe trying to reel it in lol, one that got away. 2: As for references, I just don't politic anyone's references which aren't shared or public because then it just get's everyone in to a measuring contest at the urinal....and just like that sounds lol....everyone loses that game. :) You may be correct, but as of now I don't believe there are conclusive references because I don't see them....just our focus determining our reality. 3: I have all the other bubble strips save frosted fully round, so as a true collecting completionist, aiming for each target to ensure when/if/ever there does become a conclusive reference, I'll be covered.

But I'm all eyes for your references if you wish to share. I love seeing them and learning and judging for myself or if not definitive….reading the tea leaves too :) and like Harry Potter….ill suffer but be happy about it lol.

Thx again for the comment TC

Can you confirm if the part number on the two clamps you have are the same or different? I can look up the specific part in my part manual. I looked up the one on mine and saw this AL.B. listed for the clamp part itself with other materials for the pins and nuts on the assembly. All Inconel parts are specifically listed as Inconel. This part variations were not.

As for a picture of the bubbles, some I cannot share. I asked the person who shared one of them with me if I could post a crop and he said I could. This along with others I have seen, show a clear bubble strip.

Thank you kindly for the crop. We all may not agree on what they show, but it is really nice to see them for sure.

I can certainly understand the root of your thoughts here from this photo!! Tres bien mon ami.

Like so many of these, the one I got from JediSeth and the other I sourced, they are both the same color minus patina. Here are some shots to show that. Older worn layered over the other, you can see the coloration int he wear bits there along the dotted lines.

Here you can see the inner ring from he naturally patina clamp, just how well the color match is to the clean one.

The clamp lever doesn't appear to have any of the same weathering here as in the chronicles photos. Is this photo from Tunisia? It also doesn't seem to be cut as off center as the chronicles strip was, but that could be artifacts from the photo. Without having any more context I'd argue these are two different strips and two different clamps

I also did a version of the Chronicles photos to compare my build with the original and I can see the same artifact in the bottom right corner on both, the subtle dark spot from the rails of the clamp. I'm not saying I know for sure one way or another but based on what I'm seeing I believe they're the counterpart to the LEDs used on the Vader V2. We know for a certainty they had a calculator with fully round bubbles and LEDs in hand for ANH.
