The Ultimate Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi Real Vintage Parts Lightsaber Group

Both washer sets arrived. One is not suitable. Initial images of the other below. The difference in finish resulted from removing the coating to reveal the alloy underneath. These are surprisingly heavy. In order to seat the transistor properly on top, the washers may need a spacer on the inside of the clamp but will get to that later today.

My nos transistors arrived the other day - drilled them out and glued machine screw threads in. Don't look too bad but I need to seat the one on the right a bit better.

I'm using Roman's washers (drilled out) for now until I find some washers that I'm happy with.

That's pretty much it for now until I find the ever elusive balance pipe!

I've had those dreams. When you see a mk20 or a telegraph graflex appear in a BTS shot, then you'll be right around the area of crazy I'm at

Haha I started watching Empire of Dreams last night and dreamt I saw obis saber hanging out with a bunch of graflex halves with some parts sitting around showing how it was put together... if only!

I had a nightmare than I was chased down a mountain path by a mudslide - but I slowed down because MK1 grenades were sliding through the mud, and I couldn't grab them.

Nice work on the washers so far guys

Lmao!!!

I attached my op amps and washers pretty much the same way. I had to break down the ceramic insert on the back with a high speed steel burr and then used a carbide endmill to mill out the shell. I think because of what a nightmare it is to drill out an op amp, it's pretty likely the originals were actually TO-39 transistors. I used an M2x5 socket head screw with a nut on the inside of the clamp. This way the clamp can be slid onto the Roman's adapter I use without any modifications to any of the parts.

Also, unrelated, I took some shots of the saber today as I was taking a photo of how the op amps were attached, so enjoy! It feels good to have it functionally together and finished, at least until I can get a real balance pipe. That being said I'm pretty happy with the weathering I did on my Russrep balance pipe so I'm content for now!

And last but not least a moody shot of all of the components.
