Had found contact and intended on purchasing a full engine but alas wrong config. Asked whether there were any spares laying about and that was all she wrote really.. a stroke of luck, however hours and hours of hard work and searching went into this find. It’s never ever easy and I take every find with the utmost gratitude. Can you tell us more about those BPs you found? did you find a new motor? it's sounds like an interesting story, finding that many female BPs and C clamps on their own is quite extraordinary.
awesome! For sure. They came separate from an engine, I’d been looking for an engine and stum

I would love to find an entire motor, I really would. I don’t know what’s harder.. surplus stock or the entire thing. Some burner cans would be really great..
But yeah man. I’m stoked, and broke lol
Yeah you're right about assiduity for sure, particularly with the easier to find stuff.. because things do pop up quite often. I actually wonder how many items are bought from people and used for their actual purpose and not prop building lol! Bet we've missed a few. But man! That would have been an amazing find. I'd definitely keep checking it for sure, you just never know really.awesome!
For sure it's hard work and a lot of research. I think the most important might be assiduity in the research. For the story, the last engine find was a 2 hour road trip away from me! and it was on a local second hand website that I used to check once or twice a week. I missed it!!! believe me, not that it's going to happen again, but now I'm watching that website every day!
Spam away, never get tired of seeing real vintage Obi parts. My second time refinishing an Mk1! Very proud of this one. Okay, this is my last post for a while. Getting a bit spammy, sorry all!

Can’t contribute much here in terms of knowledge, hell I’m just learning from these RPF threads and only been doing this for about a month! New member to join the ANH Real Parts Building though, so check me in to that room!!Thoughts on using a blackened threaded rod for keeping the Obi together to match the emitter reference photos? I don’t know if many of you guys already do.. but I’m considering it?

I don’t know if there’s any reference photos that show more of the inner emitter face, I might be totally wrong. I’m not as clued up on the finite details as you guys..
So first, great job these look amazing!Things have been very hales centric over here recently, so let's keep it up!
I've been doing commissions recently for weathering. I've been a professional blacksmith and metalworker for over a decade now and patina on steel and iron is one of my specialities.
Here's some before and after of a few beautiful hales I've refinished and created a deep beautiful chocolate brown patina on. The patina is a stabilized oxide that will protect and preserve the body for another 100 years at least, and is based on the actual surface of my personal hales which had aged like beautiful fine wine since it was made in 1915. If anyone has one they'd like me to work on please send me a message!
Enjoy!

I know there's a lot of alleged shady stuff gone on with ubsubstantiated claims to ownership of this and that, claims to know such and such for x gain. I honestly wouldn't want to chime in.I think it's time we had The Talk.
People in the film business often do what they do because it's a job. It's a paycheck. They aren't fixated on the details, the way we are.
STAR WARS was made nearly 50 years ago. Some of the people involved in the production have been more than happy to exploit their connection to it for ego-stroking and/or financial gain.
Frankly, it wouldn't be hard to do some cursory prop research in forums like this one, go on convention tours, spout off some BS details about a job from 50 years ago that you barely even remember doing, and then also fabricate some replicas to pass off as "production made by the original set/props decorator" so as to make even more money.
(Mind you, I'm not disputing the notion that the endcap was missing. I'm speaking more broadly.)
I noticed “someone” right below that post asked him for a full confirmation that, yes indeed the cap was always off for filming, but as mentioned above his memory is how good? and anyone’s memory that far back is how good? and yeah, maybe on maybe off but like you I will keep mine on.I know there's a lot of alleged shady stuff gone on with ubsubstantiated claims to ownership of this and that, claims to know such and such for x gain. But yes was only speaking on the end cap. I'll still be keeping mine on though
I actually totally agree man!!I noticed “someone” right below that post asked him for a full confirmation that, yes indeed the cap was always off for filming, but as mentioned above his memory is how good? and anyone’s memory that far back is how good? and yeah, maybe on maybe off but like you I will keep mine on.
I found his, paraphrasing here… “AG digging through a bathroom to find a knob” comment to be great comedy and still ringing true lol.
Do we REALLY want definitive answers anyway? What would we have to shoot the **** about if everything was completely known lol. Kidding, we’d all still find SOMETHING lol.
