I don't think it's a color photo, I think it's a high-res version of the same B&W photo that was put into one of those new AI programs/filters that updates B&W photos into color. They're all the rage right now.
onderon ... contact Jediseth ... he might provide you with some good vintage washers ... I still need those myself and will contact him soon too.
coolhanluked ... I have about 50 members filed in my index ... some of which have still a booster or balance pipe to finalise their build but most are finished ... only a few members have 2 or more complete sabers or spare parts to complete another ... and some members have sold theirs in the meantime. There are several members who have mentioned they are still collecting parts for theirs but have not posted any lightsaber pictures in this thread.
corliss1 ... my remark regarding the tape was made to aid members in avoiding additional scratches ... I believe it was James Kenobi 1138 or Edraven (?) who showed us how to do this ... yet I can't seem to find the thread in which a picture with blue tape was posted. And no I personally don't think the propmakers back in 1976 would care that much
Now I just noticed that DaveP posted a colour picture in his interest thread ... which I had never seen before ... so without further ado I archive it here in my thread :

I am pretty sure they did not use any tapes, but I am also pretty sure an Exactra wasn't cost around 750 USD back thenDo we really think the props team went to the trouble of taping off the clear section under the bubbles before sanding? Even the most glorious HD shots in modern times would need to be straight and in focused on that exact area to tell there was ever such a detail, let alone in 1976.
Totally had me fooled dave, thought it was realHi there.
Just since it's being discussed, that image isn't colour. It's the same B&W Chronicles one that gets shared on here.
I colourised this myself the good old fashioned way, in photoshop using references of people's vintage parts for guidance on the colours.
I wouldn't use AI myself. Each to their own obviously, but it's not for me.
I remember bitching spending 175…Yeah, but those prices are back to reality now - 250-350 seems like the real going rate at this point.
And thats still pretty crazy. I remember picking them up left and right for 10-20 bucks. Ahh the good old days! I had no problem cutting 2 of them down for my vader sabers cuz they were so cheap and easy to get.Yeah, but those prices are back to reality now - 250-350 seems like the real going rate at this point.
Long story.. are you sitting down?Hey Halliwax ... when can I add your lightsaber to my index file? ... Or have I overlooked pictures of your finished saber?

Haha, the chances of coming up with a theory that hasn't been mentioned before on this subject are slim!Yup, that theory has been mentioned before![]()
Also (I’m assuming) the majority of balance pipes on the sabers would have been from a Derwent engine, and a few NOS ones.Haha, the chances of coming up with a theory that hasn't been mentioned before on this subject are slim!
Still, a fun thought though. Has anyone thought to do a database of known balance pipes so we can try and screen match one? Or was the theory discounted.
True, but It's unlikely the engine was reassembled with the pipe, given how few aircraft used a Derwent. Also (I’m assuming) the majority of balance pipes on the sabers would have been from a Derwent engine, and a few NOS ones.
It'd be worth a go to try though, surely? Wouldn't that be a fantastic thing to find and learn the history of.I don't know if there's good enough images of the screen-used one where we'd be able to tell.
No, my point was that the Obi builds that most people have on the forum, the BP would have come from an engine. So it’s highly improbable that the screen used BP would be on one of the builds on hereTrue, but It's unlikely the engine was reassembled with the pipe, given how few aircraft used a Derwent.

Ah, that's a very good point. But I'm sure there's a few out there who got their balance pipe from someone who got it from someone and it's origin is questionable. No, my point was that the Obi builds that most people have on the forum, the BP would have come from an engine.
