I don't think I've ever seen a vintage grenade look that brassy before. Sure its vintage and not one of the brass replicas that came out in the early 2000s?

Lots of upgrades in the past few months, so I figured it was time to share some updated photos.

I'm pretty certain since I last shared this saber in this thread, every one of my previous vintage parts with the exception of the balance pipe and booster has been swapped for a more accurate/desirable found parts.

Not pictured are more accurate Macroni transistors and rounded bubble strip from a red LED Exactra. It'll proably be awhile before I swap the current vintage stand-ins for those.

Thanks to everyone over the years who's made this dream possible.

This is absolutely stunning

Finally I’ve got some time to put my hilt together but I don’t know (or I don’t remember) what to do with the Exactra bubble. I have the green pcb version and I already cut both ends to the right lenght but what am I supposed to do with the “legs”? Sand them or chamfer the top instead?

I would chamfer the corners like the replicas that Roy sells! The chronicles saber has a bubble strip that was cut off center which I copied in my build.

Chamfer right? I think I saw yours recently. I saw so many in the past two days I don’t remember ‍ and knowing my skills I am pretty sure it will be offcenter thanks!

The only bubble strips from the ANH era we can see today in the flesh are the MPP ESB Hero and the Elster reject saber. (It’s safe to say since in ESB they moved to boards that bubble strip is original, obviously modified a few times over filming.

The MPP has right angles milled into the upper corners. The elstree is beveled. It seems their solution in general was to take material off the upper corner?

Looking at this enlargement of the bubblestrip of Obi-Wan's lightsaber from STAR WARS ... it seems to me the bubblestrip is fully covered on both sides by the G R A F L E X clamp lips, thus it is my interpretation there would be no need to alter the corner edges, just to sand a little of the bottom so it could fit perfectly underneath the clamp lips. Mind you the height of each clamp lips may vary from clamp to clamp so please dry-fit and sand very carefully ... it is also wise before sanding to cover the inner bubbles with blue tape to avoid any scratches from sanding ;)

I made a chamfer on mine but also had to sand the legs a little to be able to fit and close the lever as well. Funny note: I taped the bottom and the bubbles as well but of course accidently I sanded some bubbles a bit with the file. Thankfully it wasn't that bad I could easily polish them back to shiny (y)

onderon I can't wait to file pictures of your saber in my index for members with an all real parts Obi-Wan lightsaber :)

That's awesome, thank you! I thought I am done, but then I realized I still need the washer(s) so I am trying to find someone who not just has them but willing to send it to me as well. (Ebay has some nice contestants but they are all in the USA and none of the sellers are willing to send them abroad

If you don't mind telling us, how many members do you have filed with an obie saber? And some of us have more than one. Do you have a number of complete sabers that dont have any replica parts on them? It would be interesting to know.

Do we really think the props team went to the trouble of taping off the clear section under the bubbles before sanding? Even the most glorious HD shots in modern times would need to be straight and in focused on that exact area to tell there was ever such a detail, let alone in 1976.

onderon ... contact Jediseth ... he might provide you with some good vintage washers ... I still need those myself and will contact him soon too.

coolhanluked ... I have about 50 members filed in my index ... some of which have still a booster or balance pipe to finalise their build but most are finished ... only a few members have 2 or more complete sabers or spare parts to complete another ... and some members have sold theirs in the meantime. There are several members who have mentioned they are still collecting parts for theirs but have not posted any lightsaber pictures in this thread.

corliss1 ... my remark regarding the tape was made to aid members in avoiding additional scratches ... I believe it was James Kenobi 1138 or Edraven (?) who showed us how to do this ... yet I can't seem to find the thread in which a picture with blue tape was posted. And no I personally don't think the propmakers back in 1976 would care that much ;)

Now I just noticed that DaveP posted a colour picture in his interest thread ... which I had never seen before ... so without further ado I archive it here in my thread :
