It took me two days but I read through this entire thread. You guys work is INCREDIBLE. Truly. This entire thread is just like a work of art. I’m truly inspired!
I’ve been a member here about 15 years and have watched so many of you take on these sabers. It’s finally my turn. I’m not in a hurry and I understand this will take time and will cost a pretty penny.
Where do you all suggest I begin in purchasing my first pieces to put this bad boy together?
What I DONT want to do is accidentally get ripped off or be a moron and pay too much for something. Any advice from you all?

My suggestion, start saving cash so you have it ready when something pops up...when things do pop up they usually don't last long.
I highly agree, words of wisdom right there, straight from the vintage wizards mouth!
I actually started with a Rylo or Russrep (?) aluminum Grenade body with no neck, a resin EP.3 booster, 80s sink knob and a good old Russrep Emitter weathered by Bobadebt. I tried making the rest out of plumbing parts.
Slowly, I learned a lot playing with the parts and got Roman's parts to replace things and swapped out vintage things when they came up within my price range.

Totally agree with Halliwax. You can’t go wrong with teecrooz wisdom. It’s what I did.
This is also very good advice. Most of these pieces are more than a pretty penny!
The only thing I would add... enjoy the hunt, & look at it as a long distance marathon. It will take time. See it as (for what it is) a challenge, that has a killer payoff at the end.

Until another engine comes up, the balance pipe is too crazy right now. With prices in the 8-10K range, it's rough for even serious collectors to think about getting one (I still don't have one)
$8,000-$10,000 for just 1X balance pipe, or for the entire RR engine?

That's funny. I wanted to be a teacher my whole life but having my first kid at 20 years old derailed those plans (and then I had 3 more kids and reputable/transferrable on-line college wasn't really at thing in the late 90s/ early 00s)
I did work in an industry where I spent 25 years interviewing, hiring, doing new hire orientations/training/reviews, and also daily/weekly employee meeting, on-going product roll-out meetings, and hosting manager meeting, and I was the public-facing manager interacting professionally with customers.
I was also a DJ for a few years in the 1990s (wedding, proms, school dances). For almost 30 years anytime I use my 'professional voice' in person or answering the phone everyone tells me I should be on the radio or doing voice-overs (which I would LOVE to do, but I don't have a way to break-in to that industry)

If an engine would come up, do you think the person who found it would not sell the BPs for $8k-10k each?
Whales are waiting on every corner for an engine to pop up.

I just want to say to everyone here, thanks for sharing your collections and info! I have been catching up on the last 20 or so pages here and I love this stuff. I will probably never be into Obi-Wan's saber enough to seek out vintage parts (due to rarity and cost) but I absolutely love seeing the work put into these beautiful parts! Great job and keep it up!
