The Smugglers Room - Star Wars Themed Prop & Rec Room

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room (Update 2/26/12)

So, these are just some minor pieces i worked on, let me know if you are getting bored with these pics.:confused

Nope, I don't believe that any of us watching the progress of this thread are bored with your work. I'm sure that I speak for all of us when I say that we enjoy watching the progression of your fantastic work, seeing the build process, and admire the effort and attention you are putting into this.

I'm sure that it will look incredible when you're finished and many of us will want to come see it first-hand (but most of us won't be able to). But I for one, particularly enjoy watching the build process. So please, keep posting those pictures thanks for sharing with us!

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room (Update 2/26/12)

Been following this and read your other builds. You've inspired me to design a nerdy home recording studio - all those random angles and pieces would make for some good diffusion.

Excellent!!! Send me a link when you start it, i don't want to miss it.

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room (Update 2/26/12)

My face hurts from all the gawking I've done at this thread. The corrugated metal out of the basement window just works fantastically. The more time I spend on RPF, the more I want to buy a house for reasons other than not having to rent.

Well, just build panels you can take with you, this way even if you are renting, you can still do it!

Thank you very much, in that case I will keep'em coming. As far as tours, maybe I will have to host a Denver area Prop Party. We are completely remodeling the garage into a fully functional shop this summer, so maybe late summer or early fall . . . maybe i will even be done by then.:behave

I would say we are both jealous and in awe of your work... having said that we will never bore of your progress photos.

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room (Update 2/29/12)

just a small update, I had a chance to cut out the front portion of my display cabinet. I should have started with the base, but I could not resist seeing what it would look like. I am very pumped for a long two day weekend, i'll be up to my elbows in sawdust!!!!!:love

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room (Update 3/2/12)

Looks very cool!

I was just curious-- is there any way you might have the time and the ability to post a rough sketch of the floor plan?

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room (Update 3/2/12)

If I were you, I couldn't resist putting down a layer of gray primer!

Yes, I have one, and I will try to get it posted today.

Oh man, you aren't kidding. I have to use EXTREME patients not to grab a can of grey paint and just go crazy on the whole room!!!!!

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room (Update 3/2/12)

Hey guys, DS Operative asked if I could load up a layout of the room. The one below is the drawing I did before starting. It's not a "To Scale" drawing, but it was a very good reference of what I am doing with the basement.

You can see that the Poker area is in the back, where I am currently working. The Theater area will not get the same level of "Space Ship" detail as the Poker area, but it too will carry the same type of Theme.

I have not built my HIC yet, but i do intend to get that built for the room next year. Boba Fett is at about 90% complete (it was a budget build, but still looks damn good for $120ish spent)

I plan to frame in my Theater screen, and give enough detail to make the entire basement flow together nicely.

Anyway, thanks again to all of you for looking, and a special thanks out to Phillip and Stinson for their contributions, you guys are amazing!!!! (y)thumbsup:thumbsup (I'll update the rest of you on those details later

This continues to look amazing.

Thanks for the nod.

Re: The Smugglers Room - Full Scale Entertainment Room

I have a somewhat active project to replicate those round lights you'll need for this. I might see if I can get it moving along.

I should also mention, one of the beauty replica's that will be sitting in this space is being designed for my by SteveStarKiller, you may have seen his Falcon Renderings, if not, you NEED to:eek

The beauty I speak of is this: (I believe SteveStarKiller and I will do a separate thread for that piece, as it deserves a little more attention than just thrown in here. But I thought you guys might like a teaser:cool

This console will be sitting just to the right of my Display cabinet, and left of my Audio Video racks. It should look great!

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room (Update 3/2/12)

ok, well the weekend was non stop fun in the basement. Unfortunately I had a fair amount of work on the ceiling to prep, and sort through before I could get any massive amount of work done, so it did feel a little slow going.

I built several ceiling panels and then realized that it was tidious, and the amount of work that will need to be done to sand and prep each panel for paint, is going to take FOREVER:cry So I decided that the best thing I can do, is build a vacuform table and simply use these as molds. It would sure make the process a lot faster.

My question to you guys is, where would I find the best info on making one? I have seen everything from full standing units, to smaller designs that you simply use your oven to make. Do you guys have any experience with it? I can see having one as very useful:love but I think the simplified oven unit would serve me best in the cost department, at least for now.

At any rate, here is my progress, as always, let me know what you think!

Ceiling panels lined up and ready!

I finally installed the entire wall to test fit and make any adjustments. I will be drilling all the holes for wiring this week, and then I can start sanding and sealing this project. Paint in my future . . . I can't wait!!!!

This is an epic project and I one I look forward to following. The progress you've made so far looks simply stunning.

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room (Update 3/2/12)

This is a totally amazing build so far ! Volpin Props had a nice budget built vaccuformer on his blog using parts from a toaster oven and a shop vac. I see cheap toaster ovens at thrift stores like goodwill all the time.
Volpin Props: Budget Build Mini Vacuum-Former

Thanks man, I started a small one tonight that I can use with my oven, but I think the link you sent is a must build!
