Mos Eisley Cantina Tables

I have been wanting to make the cantina table for a while. I kept trying to figure out how I would make the curve piece with the grooves in it in a clean way. Recently, I picked up on of the new massive Elegoo printers and figured I would just print it in one shot.

I found some BTS pics of the tables used and didn't think I would like the way they looked in my house. The "toe kick" at the bottom is just too high for me.

I want to use it more like an end table or possibly a display table for other props. Something maybe 24" diameter and would be a good table to have in a bar or sitting area in the house. There is a lot of 3d models out there for 1/6 scale dioramas. I found a few to use a base, but ended up designing my own.

I am working on an insert right now to go inside for support next.

Another obscure point is that the tables used in the Elstree shoot differ from the ones used in the California pickup shoot. :)

I saw the shots with the smooth tables too and just figured there was only so many with grooves and they were careful with the layout. Didn't realize they were used in pickup shots.

Yep! All the footage of Luke, Ben, the droids, the central bar, the doorway, Han, Chewie - was shot in Britain. However Lucas wasn't satisfied with the appearance of the monsters that Stuart Freeborn, Graham Freeborn, and team had made for the sequence (they had limited time and Stuart Freeborn fell ill, as I recall), so most of the UK creatures are only visible in wide shots or telephoto shots over the shoulders, etc. The shots of Greedo with Han were filmed with Paul Blake in the Greedo costume (with the long sucker-tipped fingers).

Lucas was then able to convince Fox to cough up a little money for some additional shoots during the editing phase in California. He had a small alcove built in Los Angeles, and got a new set of monsters quickly built and assembled by Rick Baker and Phil Tippett and team. These are the monsters seen briefly as quick cameo-like closeups. The cantina band was also shot at this time. The Greedo costume had some articulation added (ears and crude snout movement) and Maria de Aragon wore the outfit (hence the famous shoes). She also wore heavy fingered gloves, resulting in a continuity error. The finished scenes of Greedo in the movie where we can't see Han were the California pickups.

Because of the tight cropping you can't see the smooth-sided California tables in the finished movie.

Finally the UK tables had a small notch, maybe as carrying handle recesses, on the side.

I saw the notch as well. I thought about modeling it in to add some kind of LED greeblie or something, but right now I am just gonna get the basic design. Always room for a 2.0 table!

I want this so bad… this makes a great base ti photograph props…

I have no place at all to put one if I could find/replicate one.. but I want this so bad

I agree. Perfect in-universe base for 1/2 scale statues or shorter creatures or busts.

I am debating about the light in the center. It is dead center and can’t really use the table with it there.

I get what you are saying. The light is part of the overall esthetic of the table but impacts the usability. What about mounting something like this pull up lantern, flush, so it's up and illuminated when you want it or down and off when you don't.

Magnetically attached lamp? With a battery and magnetic sensor switch. Or a Qi type wireless phone charger to power it.
