The Smugglers Room - Star Wars Themed Prop & Rec Room

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room (Update: The Door)

What a superb project!
I'm also thinking about doing something like this, only in a non-Star Wars way. I'd like to have a sci-fi feel though, only more subtle. That's because I'd like some futuristic motives to be present everywhere in the house, but still want the whole thing to feel like a modern, but non-geeky home... if this makes any sense at all :D

I would go with a strong Star Wars or Star Trek feel, but my girl just won't allow that.

Can't wait for more updated on the project! Loving it!

Look totally amazing so far !!!!!!

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room (Update: The Door)

Finally got a good couple days to work on the room, it has really been a while since i have had a chance to do so, but i have a mid summer deadline to at least have a majority of it complete, so . . . GET TO WORK:behave:lol:lol:lol

At any rate, i spent most of the weekend on the door. The door itself has a fair amount of work to get it perfect, but i needed to fit it on the rail and see how well it slides open and closed.

I also spent some time on the trim around the door, and i even managed to put down a little primer grey on one panel . . . I just could not wait any longer:eek

And finally I started the sconces that will sit in several places around the room. They are in a very very very early stage, i am going to put much more detail into these, right now they just look like PVC pipes on the wall, but I wanted to see one of them up, and get an idea of how big they should be before i put a ton of work into them.

At any rate, felt good to get back into the grove, i've laid out a schedule for myself, and hopefully within a couple weeks or so, i can have everything primed, and start getting to the fun stuff!

Next i worked on the "Door Control" panel on the wall. No, it wont be actually opening/closing the door . . . at least no yet:love

This was an old "Action Max" video game console i have had since 1987, its pretty useless for the average guy . . .

Fantastic work!!! I hope you didn't throw away the other half of the controler, it works as more detail.

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room (Update: The Door)

Looking great! I can't wait to see the whole room painted up!

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room

Well this may seem an odd update, but I thought since it is totally part of the basement project, I would go ahead and show it.

Every single switch and button that goes into the basement project; from those great old school arcade buttons, to simple low voltage toggle switchs, will have a function in the system. I have an extensive lighting and audio video system that I wanted the project to interact with. Some functions are just simply sound effects and others funny lighting effects, but my hope is that people can push buttons, and flip switches at will with results.

So, I thought I would show off the equipment system on this thread, so that later when I refer to it, you'll all know what I mean

I'll try to get front shots of the racks later, when the room is better prepared for photos. Lots of blinking lights:eek

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room (Update: The Door)

Man, I'm hooked! I check this thread every day for updates :) Awsome work, and incredibly creative ideas!

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room (Update: The Door)

Yeah...this is awesome! Are some of the the grebblies based off of movie scenes? They look good and like they actually do something.

I would incorporate a few switches that are functional into the scenery...that's what I am hoping to do with my haunted mansion/potc basement.

Looking really good! can't wait to see this finished.

Thanks for the compliment!

The grebblies are not really screen accurate or anything, I am more or less just having fun with the "style" I do have a couple of plans for some screen accurate pieces that I will put in as I get further into the project.

As far as switches . . . well, the entire room will be fully interactive. There will not be a single button/switch/lever that does not control something. Some will control lighting, while others control sound, but EVERYTHING will be functional:eek:eek:eek

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room (Update: The Door)

Was able to get some greeblys up on the wall today, as well as another panel. I also replaced the first panel i did (more work needed) The first panel was poorly built in comparison to the others i did later. It drove me insane, so i needed to redo it or i would have never been happy with it.

more updates soon . . . i hope:wacko
