The Mandalorian (TV series)

This was something that was actually done historically. The best person to take out a sniper is another sniper because a regular grunt is most likely going to get themselves killed trying to hunt a sniper. Another sniper, on the other hand, has the tracking and field craft skills to hunt down another sniper. This was exactly what was done during the Vietnam War, when the North Vietnamese got tired of Marine Corps sniper Carlos Hathcock killing lots of their troops they dispatched one of their top snipers to take him out. What ended up happening was a life and death game of cat and mouse with both snipers slowly tracking each other in the jungle. Gunny Hathcock ended up winning when he saw and aimed at a glint of light coming off of the North Vietnamese sniper's scope, this is where the movie sniper trope of shooting through another sniper's scope came from.
Wow that's badass. Although the vietnamese sniper got killed too so even if it's been done I'm still not sure it's the best strategy  I just assumed you'ld most likely take cover and call an air strike to raze the general location the sniper's at lol

True, but generally speaking, you really never know where a sniper actually is. Usually the first and last indicators of an active sniper is when somebody gets shot seemingly from nowhere. By the time you react, call in and get air support, the sniper is or should be long gone and that's if you even have any idea where the shot even came from.

Enemy at the Gate is another good movie Sniper Vs. Sniper. All it takes is a small mistake in judgement or over confidence.
The sniper duel between Gunny Hathcock and the North Vietnamese sniper was where they got the inspiration for the shooting through scope scene in the movie.

For a bit more Carlos Hathcock trivia, he was one of the first people to use a .50 cal for sniping, in his case it was using an M2 fitted with a scope firing a single shot at a time.

This is not me my wife just saw this on FB.

Counter sniper operations are absolutely a part of military tactics. Hathcock wrote the book on counter sniper ops, Chris Kyle wrote the sequel. But there have been a lot of snipers and dedicated marksmen who have gone into counter sniper activity. It usually starts with the sniper on overwatch as the rest of the platoon is doing their sweep. But that's a whole different topic.

I dont think of Mandos pulse rifle as a sniper rifle. We dont exactly know its capabilities, but he does. Plus, the bounty for Fennec was "alive" and we see what the pulse rifle does to those who get hit with it.

All great points but I want them to explain why he only brings a small sidearm a lot of the time, where did his rifle go, etc.

He needs a speeder.

He needs to get a better weapons locker.

Get a copy of "What to expect when you are expecting."

Go to the baby proofing store.

And for the love of all that is good and holy get a lock on your ship.

I love Mando and I love he is not an unstoppable bad ass but actually has to put in effort. Can't blow through anyone he comes up against and is sometimes the underdog but, they need to fix the above.

Love it!!!!!

As far as where his rifle went, in the last episode it should be obvious that it's too long be of much use in the ship. There's a reason why the Army felt that it was a good idea to go from a full sized M16A4 to a M4 carbine and that's because all of the CQB/house clearing they were doing in Iraq. The shorter length makes it easier to move around in close or confined spaces and the Mando's is much longer than an M16 so he would have had a hard time swinging it around the corridors of that ship.

The other reason would be that the ship was full of droids and I think that the rifle won't work against droids. My guess is that it can only disintegrate organic matter which means that there would be no good reason for lugging around a big long rifle that can't hurt droids.

I agree. That's why he should have kept the shorter Rebel blaster looking thing that blew a big hole right through the droid.

He also needs to get a jetpack already and take some cues from Boba.

Boba up Mando. Boba up!!!!!!!! (Yeah,...I went there.)

I hope he gets a range finder too.

I really want to see the Nick Nolte Uganaught and Gina team up with him. They would make an awesome group.

So, his pistol is just that, a pistol. He's shown to be very proficient, even at outdoor distances with his side arm. The rebel blaster he picked up was more of a carbine, he wasn't going to be quick drawing that any time soon, and speed has been one of his major strengths. Plus, it likely left a big freaking hole because it was RIGHT next to the thing's head, not because it was particularly powerful

I hope he gets a range finder too.

From a practical filming stand point, we're never going to see that happen. As the main character, he's jumping around, falling over, and doing so many stunts, that having an antenna would just get in the way, and spoil the shot when we constantly watched the rubber "stunt" antenna bending. I'm certain they tested out having one on him, and dropped it for a reason.

From an aesthetic stand point, having no antenna helps make him a sleeker looking character, and helps invoke the gun slinger look.

From a story stand point, Mando's helmet clearly already has enough bells and whistles in it to not need some external range finder. the thing can see ambient heat in foot steps for crying out loud. He's even been able to use the tech in his helmet to help look through walls.

Holy cow. I was actually pizzed when it ended. They usually have 1 episode story arcs with a general what is going to happen undertone, but this......crap just got real.

So much eye candy, Tie fighters, Speederbikes, Troop transport. Sooo much good stuff.
