The Mandalorian (TV series)

Did Mando lose his rifle after episode 4? We havent seen it in a while.

Nope he’s still got it

We all wondered why he didn’t bring it with him on the swoop bikes..

That’s because he would have been able to snipe the sniper too easy lol

Think the rifle is alittle over powered so he needs to forget it once in awhile to keep us on our toes

Weird how his pistol was not that effective in this last episode but he threw away blasters that were much for effective and went back to his pistol during the job.

Chucks a lot of good hardware away as he goes as well, which I have mentioned before.

He also worked with people who may as well had signs over there heads saying "we are going to betray you."

Love the show, but as I have said he really is not that good. Anyone can get into his ship and weapons locker. He can't secure a baby, does not bring his sniper rifle when he knows he is going after a sniper.

Kind of odd for someone who is supposed to be the best.

Still love it though and can't wait for the next episode.

He really needs a speeder bike on board as well.

Is it possible the Rifle is temp out of commission? It’s taken some bumps through the episodes. Perhaps they will drop in a scene of him repairing it. It wasn’t believable in the least that he didn’t take it with on the speeder.

I do agree, but I still feel that at the end of the day/episode, he's pretty much accomplished what he was trying to do & has survived.

Isn't there an old saying that it's better to be lucky than good?

Lol

Really enjoying the Mandalorian series so far and i am not a star wars fan at all so this one has surprised me for sure.

I think Jon Favreau probably has a team working around the clock that finds out what the fans want via the net/social media etc etc.... so i believe all you guys here on rpf and elsewhere are the real creators and visionaries...you guys out there know whats required and thats why we get these excellent adaptions of late...well done to you all, you should all be on the books at Disney:)

While i am here,,, has anyone noticed similarities to other movie franchises, i,m sure that happens a lot mind you :)

There is definitely a bit of a rocky tune vibe going on with some of the mandalorian theme tunes and ironically as you will all know,, Carl Weathers (apollo creed) is in the series.

In episode three the armourer also sports a helmet similar to mr maximus,ok not exact but kinda looks like its from the same batch.

Also on the armourer subject, the armourer talks in a seemingly upper class english/american accent under a mask with a very similar vibe to a character in a strange but very good Stanley Kubrick film called (eyes wide shut)

Also in the latest episode 6... the mandalorian sneeks up on Mayfield with the lights dimming and going out which in my opinion is straight out of a scene from The Dark Knight rises where Batman (christian Bale) takes out one of Bane's mercenarys... this scene is immediately before Batman and Bane face each other for the first time in the movie.

I also just read Bryce Dallas Howard is Ron Howards Daughter...crikey every day is a school day for me..

Anyway i am enjoying the series and cant wait for e7/8 and series 2 ... bring it on...

I think the writers leave things open, in other words they want the viewers to use their imagination as always....

Not taking a sniper rifle to track a sniper is a good point... however maybe the rifle was damaged as it did not seem to appear in the previous episode either..

Weapons lockers and ships... ...you leave your **** unattended in star wars space your insurance is void lol...even if you are Darth Maul your gonna get robbed if you head for the pub...

And baby wise maybe mando has never looked after a kid...how can he look after a kid while battling other foes at the same time...you cant be in the same place at the same time in 2 areas...baby yoda also is still unclear to mando and maybe all us viewers too... :)

I think Mando is a Bounty hunter that can hold his own,,,, even one on one against a jedi if the script took that turn..

Mando
Bounty hunter > Tick
Brains > Tick
Close Combat expert > Tick
Weapons use and Knowledge > Tick
Contacts > Tick
Baby Yoda > Tick
Honour > Tick
Tactics > Tick

Maybe he's saving the rifle for when he really needs it: those cartridges seem really expensive
Also in the last chapter he used his last whistling birds right?

I think it is pretty easy to imagine he does not have an unlimited supply of disintegration charges since they are all on his belt. Anyway these are just STORY DECISIONS. We would not have an episode or dialog if he just sniped the sniper amirite?

Also this is not an RPG so the dude can not pick up and carry every weapon someone else drops hehe

I don't recall whether it was specifically mentioned in the episode, but it could be that the bounty required capture, or at least a body. That rifle doesn't seem to leave much behind other than some clothing. "No disintegrations" perhaps?

On a different note, I hear some chatter here and elsewhere about some episodes not "moving the plot forward." I think it is a litle premature to make such a judgement. Some episodes may not seem to move the plot we know we are following, but with two more episodes to go (not to mention a second season to come), there's no telling how some of these events might circle around in the future.

As for assessments of his skill -- meaning, those who say he doesn't seem all that proficient at times -- I have picked up a strong sense that he is similar to (possibly even modeled on) Indiana Jones, who also frequently took two steps forward and one step back on a good day, leavening his amazing feats with miscalculations and even dumb mistakes.

Also I'm no military tactician but attempting to snipe out another sniper, and an "elite" sniper on top of that, seems like a terrible idea.

That sniper was pretty far away.. It hasn't shown to have a super long range. Long range yes, but far as like a sniper blaster rifle, and needing to ping an enemy with major accuracy, I doubt it. Remember he was shooting fully exposed jawas at about 50-60 yards,

I haven't seen anything telling me he's not the best.

Sure he get his arse handed to him here and there. However, he did open the series by handling two bar thugs, and unloading s ship full of carbonite encased bounties. He also bested the entire guild in finding the child.

And he locked up the gang of double crossing bandits. He can't just kick everyone's butt all the time.

The whole "plot" of this first season is to show us who the Mandalorian is and where he has come from. For example this episode shows us he has a past where the "honor" part maybe was not number one on his list. He sees that he has changed and does not belong back in this no holds barred mercenary killer lifestyle. He discovered he does not really like the backstabbing aspect of the bounty hunting guild. I think we are gonna see he decides he needs to forge his own path forward at the end of the season.

This was something that was actually done historically. The best person to take out a sniper is another sniper because a regular grunt is most likely going to get themselves killed trying to hunt a sniper. Another sniper, on the other hand, has the tracking and field craft skills to hunt down another sniper. This was exactly what was done during the Vietnam War, when the North Vietnamese got tired of Marine Corps sniper Carlos Hathcock killing lots of their troops they dispatched one of their top snipers to take him out. What ended up happening was a life and death game of cat and mouse with both snipers slowly tracking each other in the jungle. Gunny Hathcock ended up winning when he saw and aimed at a glint of light coming off of the North Vietnamese sniper's scope, this is where the movie sniper trope of shooting through another sniper's scope came from.
