The man they call Jayne...

I have a couple pics of the original. The first two were posted somewhere (don't recall where) by the owner.

It does look like this medallion Pewter St Christopher Medal Necklace 24" Chain is the correct one, but the prop dept removed the original chain ring on top and replaced it with a thicker one.

I am probably going to pick one up. Want me to get one for you too, Jason?

Yes, that's exactly what I have been looking for. Thank you so much for posting them.

Oh, that is very kind of you, but my girlfriend is going to help me out with the order, so I think I am all set. (if she doesn't forget she said she would help me that is. :lol)

You means you don't own Firefly and Serenity on DVD or Bluray!? :eek

Of course I have the DVDs, I've almost worn them out watching, and capturing them all. (No really, they will barely play now. :lol) But I couldn't make anything out when it came to the necklace. I mean, it's small, and the scene were kind of dark. I lightened them up, but I still couldn't make out anything at all. I don't have a blue ray player, and I never will. (long story, but the short version is I'm half blind, and my eyes, and HD flat screens don't mix, so it's always going to be the old style tv for me.) Anyway's, I was looking for pics exactly like what keelhauler posted, so I'm all set. :)

No problem! :) I had forgotten I had them, :lol Fortunately they were in my "organized" Firefly/Serenity prop files! otherwise they'd have been lost for eternity!!

Cool. :cool Glad you are able to get one.

This is exactly the kind of flotsam I like to add to my displays to spice 'em up a bit.
Thanks for all the great info, guys.

Very nice display. I've really enjoyed watching your collection grow over the years, and it's nice to see the works in progress in that pic (jayne's MP5, and 1911) I'm working on both right now myself. :)

When you say $13.90 I'm guessing your just talking about the pendant. Now if I could just find a cheep source for the Bico chain. Most places it will cost you around $30.00 for the chain. (I really like the look of that chain, but I kind of wish they had just stuck with the chain that comes with the pendant.) There is a used one up on ebay right now for pretty cheep (the necklace that is) But it's only 16" witch is about 9" too short for it to hang right on me. Back to the search. (hey that's part of the fun. :) )

BTW, if you don't mind me asking, where did you get your Polizei patch. I love me some firefly patches, and I've been looing for that one for a wile.

Ok, I've got my pendent ordered. :)

As for the Bico F12 Chain. I have searched and search, and search, and here's what I have found. I'm about the same height as Adam (jayne) and the 25" length looks to be right to my eye, and I have found the cheapest place to get it in that length is amazon, for around $34.99 (that's including shipping). Well unless you want to wait for a random action on ebay. So, that is the length I have ordered.

If you can live with a 22" bico F12 There is a seller on ebay that has them, most of the time, for around $29. with free shipping.

And if you just want a little bit of the chain, for a display or something, there is someone on ebay right now selling 16" bico F12 for something like $13. and they are taking offers.

If you need links to any of these let me know. (they keep changing the rules about posting links to live ebay auction in this part of the forums, so I just thought I would save myself a hassle, and not post them, unless someone wants them.)

Well, I got my medallion yesterday and it was not the one shown on the webpage. sigh. I contacted them about it and am waiting to hear back. either they messed up and sent the wrong one, or (and this would suck) they don't have the one on the webpage anymore! I hope it's the former.

AH! That sucks. It figures. For years I couldn't order from that site, so I looked for an alternative. A wile back I did a ton of searching, and after days of searching I found one on ebay, that was pretty close, but I held off, to make sure there was no way I could order this one. So, my girlfriend was nice enough to help me order this one, a week or two ago, and I went through, and removed the other one from my watch list on ebay, since I didn't think I would need it any more.

Now if this one comes and is wrong, and they wont fix it, I'll be out $14. and I don't know if I'll ever find the one on ebay again. :( Plus, before I ordered this one, I checked a couple local shops and they didn't have anything close, and they all got ticked at me for being so "Fussy", any of them just plain went off on me. Man the folks at those Religious stores can get mean.

Well, I'm going to cross my fingures that I get the right one, and that they can send you the right one as well.

I got mine and this is it:

I think it is like the picture on the site except the lower robe was formed by two "strikes" that left the pewter too shiny.
I'll dull that with some paint.
It is smaller than I was expecting; don't know if the size is right or wrong.
But, I'm not changing it now.

Now I'm waiting on the chain, which I ordered from an Amazon seller in a 29" length.

Mine is round and the image is different. looks nothing like Jayne's. sigh.

Yours is damn close! Looks like the chain hook on yours is like the one on Jayne's too. cool

Who's the maker of that one, Mike? Maybe I can track one down that way. Thanks!

Yeah, mike, yours looks really close, I would happy if I got one like that. I have my figures crossed.

I wasn't sure if I should go with the 25" or 29" bico F12 chain, but I went with the 25". (if it's too short I can always put a little bit of regular chain in the back were no-one will see it, to make it longer)

I got mine St Christopher today, and i lucked out, and they did sent me the right one. :) It does have a bit of "flashing" sticking out of the bottom, but I cant trim that off with a little sand paper, or some very light filing.

Now I'm just waiting for my bico F12 chain to show up.

Well I got mine all together now.

My St Christopher had a bur/flashing, at the bottom. I promised my self, after spending $13.50 for a such a little trinket I was not going to mess it up. I was going to take my time, and carefully sand off that bur. Well, I was having a bad day today, so I thought that would be a nice easy project to take on. I broke my promises. :( I underestimated how soft pewter is. I took too much off, and now the border looks pretty bad. :( I guess it looks ok at a distance, and the piture in the midle is fine, this blunder did not make my bad day, any better. :( Oh, well, I'm not about to spend another 13.50 just to replace a prop, that most folks aren't even going to recognize any way. It's done, and on my jayne shelf it will go.

Oh, I also have this screen cap. It might help folks figure out what length of necklace they need for the whole rig to fit them right.

The person who purchsed the Jayne necklace (from Propstore, I'm assuming), claims the chain is actually a sterling chain, but the Bico links look right to me, and, from talking to my local Bico representative, the chains are actually a tarnish resistant combination of pewter and silver, which is where I assuming the owner's confusion comes from.

As far as the size, I'd probably order whatever size they had that was the biggest, but that's me..

I am the owner of this prop, purchased from the Prop Store of London. Those pictures posted on this thread were pictures taken by me, probably obtained from my website JLHjewelry.com, where they were posted several years ago.

I identified the chain as sterling silver because the clasp AND the ends of the finished chain are stamped "925" which is industry standard to indicate a chain is sterling (92.5% pure silver and 7.5% something else). The back of the saint's medal itself is stamped "PEWTER."

The original chain is 24 inches long and 2mm thick. I've also seen this type of chain referred to as "Boston link" chain. You can occasionally find them on eBay or Etsy.

St. Christopher is not only patron saint of travelers, but in some stories, he's a former mercenary who devotes his life to carrying people across a dangerous river. :)

HTH,

Jen

Well, that's got to be some kind of record. ^THIS POST^ has to, at least, be in the running for 'Best 1st Post/Thread Necro' in the history of the RPF. :):thumbsup
