Amos' shotgun...a beast of a build
The base gun is the fairly familiar FN Scar rifle. This was the only build where I used a cheap and cheerful plastic springer rather than the AEG airsoft the prop builders used. Most of the weapon is covered by custom shrouds, so I couldn't justify the much higher price of an AEG, particularly given the cost of the numerous add-ons, which came to about four times the price of the base gun
So, this is what I had:
Amos wields the shotgun:
This lead to a fair bit of additional work - filling lots of screw holes, sanding down and filling seams and re-modelling the stock to match the correct model Scar handle. I also had to cut off the bottom of the handle and add a custom insert to simulate an AEG battery cover. Everything else fell into place fairly easily, a fun build.
The add-ons proved somewhat interesting. The scope appears to be an Eotech 558 holographic sight, but finding the correct replica proved illusive. Finding one with the correct side-mounted controls and locking mechanism - yeah, okay... I finally found one on Ebay in China, and despite assurances that what I would get exactly what was in the pictures, the one I eventually received had the correct lock, but the controls on the front. As a compromise I replicated the side buttons as a cosmetic feature.
After a bit of research I discovered the front flashlight/laser is a DBAL-PL. Replicas are produced by a company called Target One in plastic and aluminium. The plastic one lacks the screen accurate silver screws, so this part proved the most expensive piece of the build. That, along with the Tokyo Marui shell holder also had to be sourced from China, so having put together most of the gun I had to sit back and wait for various bits to arrive.
I lucked out with the shells. A few years ago I had a bunch of cut to size aluminium tubes sourced for the barrels on a Space 1999 Commlock run that never came to pass, that turned out to be just the right size, so I just had to add the top caps and 'iris' inserts.
The pump is functional, I'm not sure if that ever featured on the show, but was shown on the Tested video.
And here it is!
