The DEFINITIVE TDK Joker Costume Thread/Project

Just got my tabio socks in the mail...these things are nice! The fan-made pair I bought on ebay for my initial costume were very thin, and wore out. These look like they'll last me a long time!

So I know this isnt the most appropriate place - but its where the most "relevant" people are going to see it:

Last week I went on a hunt at Hot Topic stores in search for the trench coat. Out of 4 stores, only 1 sold the coats. However, they only had smalls and mediums. I would need at least a large (maybe an XL from what people are saying). Once I came home, my loving wife called that store back and asked if there was any way they would order me a large. After being on the phone a few minutes, the woman said yes, it was ordered, and should be there within one week. WOOHOO!, right? Flash forward to today - the woman calls my wife back and says it came in. We go down to pick it up, and guess what? ITS A VEST. One of the vests they already had several L's of. When we explain that wasnt what we wanted, she says to my wife, "I'm pretty sure you told me the vest" - despite my own witnessing of the words "trench coat" and "jacket" talked about sseveral times over the phone. Anyway, she does an inventory search for large coats in ALL HT stores and none have L's left.

My reason for this posting is to see if anyone has pruchased a L or XL of this coat that they would be willing to sell me. I know its a longshot, but I was already iffy on spending the $60 - so I'm definately not paying double that for an ebay one. ANyone out there who can help me - I would be very very grateful.

COOL?

That'd be INSANE.

Be sure to keep us posted.

Yeah, he replied. Kinda ignored the question but I asked him again. Will let you know what he says

"Thanks for the thumbs up on my work for The Dark Knight, and how about
Heath's great acting job it sure was a priviledge for me. Keep well.

Sincerely Yours,
John Caglione,Jr."

Okay, idea #2 if you can't find the one you're looking for:

Check your local thrift stores to see if they have a light colored (like brown or gray), wool overcoat in the right size and shape. Dye it purple. Use dye made for wool (I think I've even heard that Kool-aid can be used) and it should dye pretty easily.

Geeze there was 8 of them where I was at Saturday. I didn't buy one cuz I wanted to have one made of the better material. It clearly looks lesser quality than the movie one FYI.

Oh you're right about that but just knowing you have the same pieces Ledger wore would be awesome. It'd be like getting a TOS Trek shirt and finding out the fabric was from the same bolt used on the originals. I know stretch but both are cool.

i think that there is a bit more to making them look good than just them being silicone, the application is a huge part of it.

i found a thread at www.thedentedhelmet.com
that this is a huge topic they have been discussing.

I am aware of the quality but for $60 there isnt anything else as good - did they have any L's or XL's?

I for one dont think the Hot Topic coat is that bad (then again, Im trying to defend my purchase). All it really needs is just the proper lining and replacing the buttons. Plus if one is up to it, make the extra cut in one sides.

That's what I was thinking. Buttons and liner and it's a really good deal for the price. Can't justify paying what these fine artisans are charging. Not that it's not worth it but for those on a budget Tripp(The Hot Topic coat) is a good way to go so long as you go up a few sizes as it DID run a little small on me. The socks they carry are pretty dead on and an uber deal too and probably the last piece I upgrade when I start doing so.

Mom loves purple so I showed her and I almost didn't get my coat back, lol.

Oh I certainly wasn't bashing it... but I am a bit with the people on ebay selling it for double the price it was at Hot Topic plus shipping.

I still think dying an existing coat would be both just as economical and look better. Only reason I decided to have a lighter jacket made rather than go the wool route was that I figure a wool overcoat inside all night would make me pretty uncomfortable.

The hard part is finding a used wool overcoat that's the right size and cut. Thrift stores are pretty cheap though. In fact a quick search on ebay yielded some pretty inexpensive results that would work pretty well. Dye it purple and you can sell it on ebay at an over inflated price by calling a Joker coat :rolleyes

Yeah, wish I was still living in Vegas. Some real good vintage clothing places there. Picked up a 3 piece suit dated back in the 50's for 60 bucks one time. There's this huge sale in the county here that has alot of vintage and used stuff as well. I picked up the coat to fall back on but if I can find a better one than I'm gonna dye it too. I agree with the being too hot part as well is why I wont be wearing his underjacket this year.

Got my Tabio socks today. Much longer than I thought they'd be, but well made and will last a long time. Not sure what to do with the cheap 10 buck socks I got off eBay now.

Still looking for pants, gloves and the chain. And time is running out.

Be seeing you,

Magnus Darcrider

Sell them on eBay, and turn them into 20 buck socks. :lol

Probably should do that before the post-Halloween TDK Joker Costume Sale Glut :lol

I mean, I've made nearly $200 simply by selling my old, less-accurate Joker costume parts on eBay after replacing them with more-accurate ones. It's not a bad idea, and you've still got some time to cash in!
