Here is the result of many months of planning and buying - a special thanks to all the RPF members whom contributed to the discussions on this costume, as well as Indy Magnoli and the Ebay sellers whom provided the exceptional wardrobe recreations!
Was out shopping today and found some awesome looking purple pinstripe pants at Steve and Barry's. I think they were only $13. Nice dark color to them.
I know it's not perfect - in fact, no single part of it is 100% accurate. But I am satisfied that I conveyed the look better than anyone else in Ann Arbor. Everyone at the big parties agreed with me! Anyone want to guess how much I spent on it?
After selling a handful of less-accurate costume elements that I replaced with better ones, it came to a grand total of $20! For that money? Hell yes I'm proud of this costume.
Also, I'm very happy with my last-minute improv on the shoes. They were worn-out brown leather shoes I was gonna get rid of anyway, AND they already had an upturned toe, so I sanded them to a suede-like texture and Sharpied on the odd stitching. From a distance, it looks pretty darn good!
What the heck, here are my three Variations of Heaths Joker:
I apologize for the bad pics of my regular costume, the person who took them suffered dearly...Oh, and that was my buddy who dressed as batman (obviously jokingly) for costume day at school.
Well I have seen some of you post how much you spend on your costumes, and I just thought I would price out mine to show you the some of the best is not always the most expensive. I didnt want people thinking I spent tousands of dollars on my costume. These prices of course are rounded up.
Here is a pic from my second night out.
I wanted to add this because I achieved a much better makeup job this night by applying latex all over my scrunched face prior to adding the white, which resulted in greater depth and texture.
This was my third attempt at doing the makeup. Still not super happy with how it turned out, but I saw much worse at the bars.
Silicone scars cast by myself from my own sculpts. Missing the bottom lip scar because I couldn't get it to hold. Close-enough shirt, as I didn't have time to sew up my Indy Magnoli fabric. Pants and vest were made by me. Notice no waistband and have working pockets. Tabio socks, stafford tie (the T&A tie was too expensive to spill beer on). Boots were my close enough Indy boots, as my friends have called them "serial killer boots" on many occasions. Chain was a miracle find by my mom at an estate sale.
Some rigid collodion scars and makeup application. Here’s my Joker costume I wore this Halloween.
Here’s my Joker costume I wore this Halloween.
Now before someone points out that everything is inaccurate I’d like to say that it was just done as a costume, not a costume replica. I had a great time wearing it.
I was in about 60 pictures or so and was the only true TDK Joker around my town of Keene. We have an event there called the Pumpkin festival which is held the weekend before Halloween and everyone comes out in the thousands to look at jack-o-lanterns and costumers. I got a ton of attention. The Joker is instantly recognizable and popular in the wake of The Dark Knight.
People would freak out and say how scary I was (I stayed in character most of the time and I think my impression is pretty good) and I found that as many people called me Heath Ledger as the Joker. One kid even had me sign an autograph for Ben from “Heath Ledger” and told me how much he liked “A Knight’s Tale”. Also I few people informed me as if I needed to know, “You know Heath Ledger is dead right?” This role is truly his legacy.
I had a great time doing this character. Although I never did come up with an appropriate response to “Why so serious?”
