The DEFINITIVE TDK Joker Costume Thread/Project

I believe this is the first time it has been posted here. I just recently saw this detail myself so, although this was not included in my replica before, all future orders will have this seam.

Kind regards,
Magnoli

I first saw that seam in the theater when he was hanging upside down. It was included on the vest I made for Halloween.

This is a tailors dart isn't it? I didn't finish my pockets so I could add this when better pix came out. I wasn't sure but I didn't want to waste fabric to do another front. That's to make the vest more form fitting correct?

It's called a princess seam. Usually more prominent on women's wear, but yes, it does help make it more form fitting. A dart goes from one edge, to a point somewhere on the interior of the piece. The princess seam actually seperates the piece.

Here's a nice shot of the back of the vest:

Now that it's confirmed in the movie; I know we found the coin, but did we ever locate the smiley sun button?

I was wondering the same thing. The flower button is pretty easy to find right now. Just check the fabric stores. That's what I did.

Is that the color of the inner jacket? I always thought it was more of a baby blue. Great shot of the fabric texture. Where did you get this photo from?

I've been exploring options for pants fabric for the last couple weeks, and this is what I came up with. This particular swatch is a poly/wool blend. The stripes are printed on the fabric about 1/2" apart. I'm doing all the printing myself, so sadly this doesn't really provide a source for all.

Opinions? Comments? The ground is more of a grapey purple. I'm currently waiting for some swatches that will hopefully have more blue in the hue. Something right in the middle of the road.

From all my scaling, I've determined the stipes to be 3/8" apart. The color looks pretty good, but it's hard to tell with only one light source. Also, printed stripes turns me off. Ignoring my super anal side, it looks like a great start!

3/8" is a fair bet. The pants I'm wearing at the moment are pinstriped, and 3/8" apart.

As far as printed stripes goes. There's not much you can do other than pay $65.00 a yard to have the fabric woven. Which I have found, just can't see that one happening. That would put a pair of pants in the $300.00 range just for materials.

Of course if I find a cheaper alternative... Besides. Who's to say the screen used aren't printed. Hard to tell these days.

i know i'm a little late to the party, but i wanted to hear some feedback on my joker costume. my variation was the joker when he was disguised as a marksman. after some makeup tests with the collodion, i eventually found an air force uniform that doubled pretty well for the cop outfit. the hat was wrong and that bothered me a bit, but i got over it. and yes... that mirror was disgusting.

Awesome costume. Love how you did the scarring too. Where did you get the patches? I thought of duin this one but didn't have the heart of ruining my old uniform.

That's great! Perfect way to do this costume in an imaginative way, to set yourself apart from the thousands of us that did the "normal" one. :lol

In regards to the two "peculiar" buttons:

Since we saw the on-set pic from the final scene, with the buttons on the costume, I sought out the blu-ray to confirm out suspicions:

Sure enough, in the scene where Joker shakes the keys at Lau in Jail, you can see his top two button have broken off, and the vest hangs open.

The next scene he's in, the Money stack burning, you can very clearly see the two "odd" top buttons, which he wears for the rest of the movie.
