The Definitive Marvel's Daredevil thread

@seeblack I just received another pair of gloves through that Abolox page and they were the correct "Stealth" variation again!

These are the ones I received from that site... Note: Sorry for the double post.

Gah! What size are you guys ordering? I ordered an xs, so maybe the problem is limited to that size.

Their customer service asked for some pictures, which I provided. Their reply said only: "your email was forwarded to the MFG for review"

I haven't heard anything since. Sigh. I sent them another message asking them to check to see if they have the matte gloves (in xs). I think this is the third time I've asked, but their response never addresses my question. Frustrating. :/

Thought I would post a link to the first set photos from season 2! I can't really tell from the photos but it almost looks like he has slightly different glasses this time around. What do you guys think?

I live and work really close to where they were filming. Unfortunately I couldn't go because I was at work. :(

Hi everyone, I created an account just to contribute something I found after lurking thru the entire thread as I slowly collect my own black costume. I know a few members bought the G-Star Powel pant in the green or tan color and dyed or plan on dyeing them Today is Amazon Prime day and there is a 30% discount on certain clothing items and the green and a grey Powel pant is included. Here is a link, appears most sizes available in green, hope this helps someone out! http://www.amazon.com/G-Star-Raw-Po...8&qid=1436977178&sr=1-2&keywords=g-star+powel

A word of caution - these are the updated version of the pants. They may appear in the show, but I don't believe we've confirmed them yet. The confirmed G-Star Powell 3D tapered pants are not available on Amazon (in the US at least). This variety, with different pockets, patterns, and stitching, may be in the show but we don't know for sure. They're expensive pants for a "pretty close" option. Please correct this post if anyone's screen-matched this version!

Westies14 posted this a while back

http://aboloxsafety.com/gloves/law-...aw-enforcement-carbon-tactical-glove-stealth/

We confirmed that they ship the correct medium and large sizes..best price Ive seen!

Thanks for the lead. I did some research and Zoro does seem trustworthy (they're apparently a subsidiary of Grainger), but Abolox is slightly cheaper

Also, has anyone put together a guide for what matching the shirts Matt wears with the level of padding? For example, when he's wearing the 8840 he's got the elbow and forearm pads, but in episode 1 and 2 he doesn't have any padding yet and seems to be wearing the 8800 (watching the episode again I didn't notice the hex pattern down the sides, so I don't believe it was the 8840 with added red stitching. I could be wrong though, it's not like he was standing still in a well-lit room)

Here is a picture of the D model of the g-star powel tapered pants that I have. It is 1 model older than the pair you can buy on amazon and its possible he wore these in some of the eps...

@mydlyfe :

I've been meaning to post pics and will get to it soon! I can't speak to the iDye poly nor the usual RIT powder, but the RIT liquid black done in a boiled saltwater bath leaves the Dune stitching, zipper backing and buttons almost exactly their original color. The rubber G-star emblem sewn into the back just below the waist did turn black. They look VERY odd out of the dye bath, with their odd colors for accents and a ton of contrast stitching throughout. The sage pants took the color much better, dying everything black or at least dark charcoal grey.

To correct the Dune pants, I took a jumbo Sharpie to the zipper backs and buttons and then traced all of the stitching (there's so much of it on these pants!) with a fine point Sharpie. It took a few short sessions to hit all the stitching. I'm a self-employed dad though; if you've got longer free chunks of time you could do it in one go. They say setting sharpie on fabric with heat can help to make it more permanent, but I've never seen it drawn out of cloth without that treatment. To try for the ultimate permanence, I may hit it with a heat gun anyway before the first cold wash. The only area that I worry about is the button - it's such a thin layer of color that it could be scraped away. Perhaps it's worth replacing them with similar black buttons, or removing them to prime, paint and seal them properly. In any case, after the RIT dye and the Sharpie followup they look absolutely perfect!

Do you happen to have pics of the dyed pants? Also, how do the pants feel after? The G-Stars are really nice pants, I would hate to make them worse or the fabric less comfortable. Thanks

So I think I've ID'ed the shirt from episode 4:
DaredevilThermal.png
1) Unlike the 2 McDavid compression shirts that have been ID'ed already (the 8800 and 8840), the shirt in this episode doesn't have accent color stitching. However,
2) It's definitely still a McDavid shirt. I compared it to my 8800T and the stitch pattern appears to be the same
3) The material, at least to me, looks a bit lighter than his pants and are definitely not a flat black

These 3 facts lead me to believe that this shirt is in fact the McDavid 9943 Thermal Compression shirt. I'm hoping someone could give me a second opinion, but considering that this is the first episode where Matt is wearing the forearm and elbow padding it'd be nice to have solid confirmation

EDIT: The same shirt makes another appearance in Ep. 7 - stitching the same color as the fabric, no hex pattern, etc. I can post more screenshots, but the quality of the stitching definitely matches the thermal shirt more than the compression shirts (a bit rougher, not quite as flush with the fabric.)

Interesting. I'm not sure why they'd have so many different shirts given how easy it would be to buy a bunch of them up front.

As far as the color difference between the pants. I can't speak of episode 4 but there are a bunch of images floating around that show the shirt being darker than the pants. The pants appear to have a matte look where as the shirt is a bit shinier.

This thermal reminds me of Under Armour cold gear which is basically a thicker version of their "hot gear" compression shirts.

If you can post more pics id be interested to see them.

Do you know of a screen shot that actually shows the hex pattern shown in the 8840/8800?

I wouldn't necessarily say the color of the shirt is lighter or darker than the pants' black as a product. Even the dark scenes of this show are filmed under tremendously powerful lights, and it's likely the different materials reflecting and absorbing those lights differently. To the naked eye - or more importantly, in product photographs that sell the products - the darkness of either garment could be equal or even reversed.

I really love this thread. I was able to do a cosplay of Daredevil at SDCC recently. I added the rope to my hands and "blood" to look a little more bad@$$.

I used soft rope. tumblr_nr7bk7sh181qzniqdo1_500.jpg(The kind you use to line dry clothes outside.) I knew it was going to be on my hands all day and needed to be a bit more comfortable.

Going to take another look today but I thought I saw a shirt at Costco yesterday that looked very similar to one of the non-hex shirts used. Going to try and go back today I think to check it out but it had red stitching and was only $13 in case someone was looking for an inexpensive option in case they weren't able to track down anything. Think it was sizes small to 2x. If I can find it again I'll advise on it and try and get a pic.

Alright, pics to follow later but I'm commuting home atm so I need to occupy myself somehow.

Turns out the McDavid thermal is a bust. While the stitching pattern does match that of the 8840 and 8800, the color (described promisingly as "Charcoal") is more of a medium grey than black. So after fruitlessly searching online for either the 8800 or 8840 in Medium or Large I decided to just go to the source and call McDavid customer support

After a conversation with a very nice customer rep in which I explained why I needed the hex pattern version as opposed to the current M logo pattern I left my name and number. I should hopefully hear from them tomorrow, so until then let's hope that they either have a bunch in stock somewhere, or they at least know of a reseller who may have stock left over...

Oh, and as for the shirt being reproduced at some point in the future? The sad truth is that they're looking to rebrand their hex pattern shirt with the M logo, so chances are we'll never see the screen-accurate shirts in production again

EDIT: As promised, photographic proof of how wrong the color of the thermal is

On the right is my McDavid 8800R which I had bought because it was listed as a T, but honestly it's a nice shirt so I'm keeping it), and on the left is the thermal.

Just wanted to put out a suggestion about possible gloves. The con I am going to is in Spring in California so...hot. Tactical glove might be a little much when having to deal with that heat. But I went to a sports store yesterday and tried on some batting gloves. They are light weight so should not get warm, and have a good grip so it should not make it hard to pick stuff up. You would just have to find a batting glove that had the look you wanted, but I think that's the route I will be going.

Wow that is a huge difference in color. The picture on the website appears much darker than that... does it at least fit right?

I was lucky enough to get a hex pattern 8800, but honestly when watching the show I never actually spotted the hex pattern (to be fair, I wasn't specifically looking) so not sure how big a deal that is. The pants, however, are much harder to find. I was lucky to find a dune pair but i'm still afraid to dye them :) The black pair I have is not the correct model but prob close enough. So i either dye the dune or use the ones I have... still havent decided.

As far as the black mask, what type of material are you using?

As far as the black mask, what type of material are you using?

The fit is identical to the compression shirt, although the material is obviously quite a bit heavier so it doesn't have the same elasticity. As for my mask, I went the cheap route and just followed the tutorial here: http://imgur.com/a/fCinX. I used 1/4" thick adhesive foam I had lying around to pad the mask and shot it with some Krylon black plastic primer, works like a charm. May have a friend sew up something closer to the show mask using a custom pattern and a more accurate material (which from what I've seen others work on appears to be a knit fabric) but considering this only cost $6 I'm happy with how it looks

Now on to some bad news: I heard back from my contact at McDavid and they no longer have the 8800 or 8840 with the hex print in stock, save for the XXL 8840 listed in the clearance section of their site. And considering that I'm 5'11" and 163 lbs at the moment there's no shot of me fitting into that. So I've started a WTB thread to find somebody willing to recreate the 8840. I can link to that thread if anyone is interested or knows a guy/gal, but like I said there I'm willing to donate my 8800R for reverse engineering if that helps in any way. I'm sure it'd be worth your while, as there are plenty of people who have been looking for the screen accurate shirt and right now there's next to zero chance of actually finding one out in the wild
