The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Suit Replica (Finished)

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Suit Replica WIP

this is so fly. And youre not going do some puff painting on the blue part? If you lay down blue slick puff paint sparingly, it soaks into the fabric so its not too 3d but still shimmers. On a kinda unrelated note, how do you upload the pictures so that theyre so big?

Nah, i fell like free handing all that brick pattern may not go the way i want it and i kinda like the texture and look of the blue as it is, plus when i do the muscle shading it'll look less cartoony :) when you insert a picture as an attachment you double click it and change the size in the menu that pops up.

You have inspired me to have a go at my own spidey costume with your detailed progression posts.
You make it look easy....which means it won't be :rolleyes.....

I found some fabric that might be good for the blue sections, trying to see if they do samples so I can see how raised the sections are

They also do a darker blue too

Haha go for it man! that fabric looks promising, but yeah it's always good the get samples first :thumbsup

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Suit Replica WIP

Hands down one of the best Spidey suits I have ever seen. Thank you for sharing it with us. I hope mine turns out at least half as good as yours!

Thanks man!

Alright guy's, i'm not happy with myself for this, but i've started a second suit.

Probably just me being a perfectionist but i think i can make a much better one now that i've learned from my mistakes on the last suit. ;)

This time i'm going for: less ruffles, neater stitching, more accurate web lines and a better fit.

Here's my progress so far...

DSC_0013.JPG

I'm making this out of the left over material from the first suit so it's going to be a bit of a scrimp, but doable :p.

I did the brick pattern before stitching this time and (obviously) it worked much better. I'm also including zippers on the wrist and boots and i'm not putting a crotch zipper one this one as my last suit was easy enough to get out of as it was.

Going to do a few more tests with 3D acrylic paint webs before i go ahead with it, but the plan is to use this method as it will cost about 1/8 the price of puff paint. (for very similar results!)

more updates to come soon! :D

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Suit Replica WIP

So far, so good. In your 3rd to last post, around two weeks ago, were you wearing a face shell?

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Suit Replica WIP

Dude this is awesome and really resourceful, as for the perfectionist side of things your not the only one ;)

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Suit Replica WIP

Here's a small update on the mark 2 ;)

Haha, an appropriate name for it, considering you're sporting the Tony Stark facial hair. Looking awesome, as expected. I'm really impressed by your sewing and patterning prowess, at this rate you'll have completed two suits in the time it's taken me to put together one, and I had a pre-made pattern!
Great stuff.

Haha thanks Luna! yeah, i guess the beard doesn't really fit with this costume :p Really taking my time positioning and then re positioning each piece to try and get a nice crease free look. It's a rather long winded and repetitive method, but it will be worth it in the end!

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Suit Replica WIP

it's really great, it dose look tighter around the stomach and chest this time round

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Suit Replica WIP

This may sound like an odd question, but how did you know where to paint the weblines? Did you set up your suit on a mannequin, or look in the mirror and draw them on?

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Suit Replica WIP

Tom, This costume is really coming together V1 was Nice but i expect like many others great things in V2

i just stuff the suit with what ever i can find to make it human shaped, then sketch the web lines on with chalk, (as it can easily just brush off) then i just paint over the chalk lines with puff paint.

tom, got any updates on the suit yet?

Thanks everyone! been having some issues with the suit lately, as i've made it a less baggy fit it has considerably reduced the size of the flap to get into the suit at the back, making it impossible to get on. So i've been trying to come up with a new way to get it on... and after about two weeks (as i only have evenings and weekends to work on it) i'm pretty sure i've come up with a unique zip set up. it's gonna be tricky to describe but i'll do my best :)

Ok, here goes... I call it the "Y" zip :p. it is basically a split "U" zip with an bit extra. The first zip starts under my left arm, goes down and across my back and ends at the point seen in the last picture. Another zip starts under my right arm and goes down to the same point, and finally there is the zip on the leg that you can see also goes to the same point. (This leg zip is the one that gives my the room i need to get into the suit) I'm happy with the results, and i figure if the master that is MCL34N can have 3 zippers, so can i ;).

Now that the hard part is over (hopefully!) i should be more frequent with updates, so stay tuned folks!

Very clean, very awesome, as always! Very impressed with your patterning and fit at the shoulders, the shoulders on my suit are very frustrating.I really like that y-zip setup. Seems handy, lets you have better fit on the sides, the lack of that was a thing that always bothered my about my u-zip suits.

I tried out a difference zip configuration for my ASM2 suit as well. I wanted to avoid zips down the sides to try to match the look of the film suit, but my print didn't allow me to separate the shirt and pants like the suit they used on set, so I couldn't fit into it when I tried to emulate their zipper placement in the back and belt without that extra room. I ended up adding a (hahaha) butt zipper, so that the zippers all meet in a cross pattern at the back of the belt. It looks funny when I'm getting dressed, like I'm giving myself a wedgie :lol, but the end result looks very sleek, and I don't get the bunching along the sides when I bend and move anymore.

Thanks bud! i don't even want to think about the shoulders anymore haha! Like you said it was very frustrating to get smooth.
I also experimented with the *cough cough* butt zipper, as there is a stitch line there on the film's suit which makes it a great zip placement point! However the the blue fabric i use doesn't stretch as much as i'd like, and i needed stretch around the waist area to allow me to get the rest of the suit over my head/shoulders etc. So ended i up with this configuration that basically gives more space when the leg zip is undone so you don't have to be a contortionist to get in haha. But yeah it would have been nice to have a more screen accurate zip set up, although i think i may have given up hope trying to figure that one out with the (not so stretchy) blue stretch fabric i use ;)

Your new suit is looking sweet! look's a really nice fit. Will you be starting a work in progress thread on it?

Right on, man you know it! After shouting many a curse word at these shoulder's I'm wishing I'd gone the route you and MCL34N used where the arm fabric continues all the way to the neck. I'm just going to have to let them be at this point.

Gotcha, yea, you gotta use what works. Really elegant solution you've come up with. It's both clever and user friendly. Mine still requires a good bit of contortion.

Thanks! I might do a WIP thread, but I'm more interested in finishing it and clearing the hurdles before I write it all up, like my last suit. I've been taking pics along the way to share in the end and I'll definitely post all of them when I can, there's just a lot of work left to be done and I'm trying to finish before the first official trailer drops, so I can wear the suit to the theater. (Word is it's gonna be released November 8, attached to prints of Thor: The Dark World, and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire)

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Suit Replica WIP

Haha fair enough, it's kinda hard keeping a thread updated when you're working like crazy on something!

I've always wanted to wear a good replica of something to the first screening etc, might have to consider doing that when i'm done.

Apologies for no images showing up! The rpf seems to be having a few issues atm.

Wow, V2 is looking great Tom! I love the new fit, and that zipper solution is ingenious. :thumbsup

And you too Luna, your new suit looks like it's shaping up to be fantastic, as expected ;), but how are you going to just tease us with that, haha.

Keep up the great work guys, it's people like you who get me excited about being a part of all this.

Haha, thanks brother. Sorry, didn't mean to tease, just wanted to talk zippers. :lol
