The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn

Wow, Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright AND Joe Cornish? I knew about Edgar, but it's cool to see Joe there too. Mental note, need to see attack the block later this week.

The Adventures Of Tintin Trailer Online! | Movie News | Empire
Empire has a slightly different (international version) of the Tintin trailer.

Youtube link to the international version of the trailer

Different opening shot and music with Tintin and Snowy getting out of his house and change in dialogue during the end of the trailer. Also includes the full movie title at the end.

And different wordings during the middle of the trailer. Instead of "Comes a Motion Picture Event" "Unlike Any Other" it is " This Year" "Discover How Far" "Adventure Can Take You"

Tintin

Could not see any thread talking about the new Tintin movie.
In all the trailers I never see haddock with his pipe, even in the Weta statue he don't have his pipe.
Will Haddock smoke his pipe or even have a pipe? Or has it changed because "smoking is bad"

Re: Tintin

Sadly I'm betting it's cut out because of the anti smoking groups. I know they're still pushing for any movie that has smoking in it to be R rated automatically.

I just don't get it, does this have a built in audience waiting to see it? i've heard of tintin but thats it, does the books etc have a huge following overseas? a few people i've spoken to have never heard of it

Yes.

From wiki
"The series is one of the most popular European comics of the 20th century, with translations published in more than 80 languages and more than 350 million copies of the books sold to date"

does the books etc have a huge following overseas?
Yes, Tintin has a huge following in Europe and Asia, probably even in Australia and New Zealand. Like Asterix, Tintin is another European comic which never gained popularity in the US. Probably cause they never really marketed the comic to the audience there. Same goes for Lee Falk's The Phantom and Mandrake comics, in spite of being created in US not much famous now in US, but has more popularity in Europe, Australia and India.

Edgar Wright posted this on Twitter earlier today.

edgarwright: Love the MPAA guidelines on 'Tintin' : 'adventure action violence, some drunkenness & brief smoking.' What more recommendation do you need?

Apparently, Haddock does some self-empowerment speech about the evils of drinking at one point. If this is so, then they're really pissing about with the character.

The animation looks great.
The use of space refelcts the comic well, a very clean, open sort of feel.
Somehow Spielberg's style shines through in the action sequences.
Nice!

GREAT MOVIE!! Very faithful to the original comics. Haddock however do not smoke his pipe :( But the acting is very good. The original voice acting i can't tell about because the cinema here only showed the swedish translation of the movie :( .
The movie has lots of references to some of tintin's other adventures that must have taken place before this one (The Broken Ear statue is shown in the background, Cigars of the Pharaoh newsclips.) I'm very happy to have seen it :)
