The 8th Doctor's new costume - Night of the Doctor

The fit isn't too bad, I made size 36 (based on a chest measurement of 36 in, even though mine was 37). You see it closed here:

Simplicity has gorgeous steampunk costume patterns for women, that would fit the bill for a Fem!Eight costume. I particularly love Simplicity 2172. And maybe Simplicity 1732. But your suggestion on S&S is pretty neat too, great classic lines!

Decided to make a new skirt from a tan cotton material then maybe try some distressing/ageing techniques. I've looked up tea dyeing (which I'll use to age my shirt)…anyone know of any other techniques that could work to give the worn look of the trousers?

Got most of the outfit done. Now for the scary bit...the frock coat.

I erm...made my own sonic but I think it matched the outfit.

Oh wow, so cool! Cute sonic! I love how your outfit turned out so far, love your fabric on the waistcoat! Good luck for the frock coat, in my case it wasn't really difficult, it was just. so. many. steps. I hope your pattern will be easier ;-) Did you settle for the Sense & Sensibility one?

Hello everyone!

I just re-found this site on a quick browse and thought i would join and share my pictures of my 8th Doctor Night of the Doctor costume which i assembled earlier this year!
Doctor Who Night of the Doctor Costume FULL_00000.jpg

When i went for my photo shoot i specifically tried to mimic the pose from the promo photo, here is a comparison.

This was the first professionally done photo shoot of a series that i am doing to finally document my costume collection i also own a , Full Farscape John Crighton Outfit, Full Star Trek Nemisis, Star Trek Enterprise, Stargate Atlantis, Stargate Sg-1, Stargate Universe, Battlestar Galactica and a simple jack Bauer costume.

If you like my outfit and are interested in seeing the other 2 i have had photoshoots for (Farscape/Stargate Atlantis) then hop over to Power543's Sci-Fi Costume Collection and click costume tab you want and check it out :D.

Hope you like my Doctor who costume, i'm quite proud of it...all i am missing is a silk shirt which would more accurately represent the way his shirt folds down!

That's really good! I like how the waistcoat fabric is a pretty good brown-gold colour match to the original. Also, where did you get your trousers from?

Yep using the sense & sensibility one but added 10inches on the length. I've been redrawing the pattern this evening. It suggests lots of quick tailoring techniques...so should be fairly quick. My fitting skills has improved since I last tried the pattern and failed.

That looks like a pretty good match. Fab.

Nice progress, Ladydetempa, loving the femme versions :) classy

Power stunning costume and nice pose match ;)

Though I'm jealous of all you whom can fit into their gaiters. I bought a pair and I have about two inches of leg to cover still lol

I'm gonna have to make a custom pair as I have oddly proportioned legs...I appear to be short in the ankle so anything shopbought hits the wrong point and won't fit my calves.
Found some good tutorials on making my own.

I don't have gaiters on my pictures, just lace-up boots. But I bought some leather last weekend and I'm gonna have a go at making a pair, eventually. They won't be exactly the same, as I don't have the tools to set in the hooks, but I'll think of something. I was looking for a pair on ebay, but they are way over my budget. Giving up on the tall boots I have now would also mean I'd need to find a pair of ankle boots to match my gaiters... more money to spend! haha I'm all for authenticity and looking as close as the original as possible (and your costume, Power543 is amazing, I saw it float around on Tumblr a while back and it gave me serious jealousy issues LOL) but I also have limitations, mainly on budget and time. And skills, obviously. For me, cosplaying is about expression my love for my favorite character(s), not a race for perfection. I know I'll never be as good as other people are. But I admire everyone's work on this site. It's mind-blowing, and truly inspiring.

Can't afford real leather so am gonna use vinyl (faux leather) and the DIY eyelet kit I bought for making regency short stays. Finding long enough laces with be my main prob.

Thanks all :D -- i worked hard to find the right pieces although the snake belt and gaiters were lucky finds! Kind or a miricle the gaiters fit me, i am super think and they work perfectly. I dont need to be 100% accurate but the night of the doctor outfit has so many interesting details and unique pieces that i felt like i wanted to make sure i got right versions of them all. I even have a vintage pocket watch of the same design as he used in the movie (you can see he still has some kind of pocket watch in the press photo)

Morthwyl: The trousers were a Suede set that i managed to find off ebay, a bit to big for me but i found a way around that.

I like your women's version Ladydetemps, very creative and the fact you made all of it from scratch for the means version...wow! You are truly skilled!

I enjoy sewing…this gives me an outlet. I find it de-stresses me. I also like discovering sewing techniques from history. My fitting still needs a lot of work and my interior finishes can be a bit…scruffy but they do the job.
I really need to find a tailoring workshop….my collars and sleeves are never as I want. I was going to sew the shirt too….but I'll settle for modifying a RTW one.

Any chance of a close up of the watch.... :)

Same for me, I love sewing for the creativity outlet. I used to make a lot of my own clothes when I was much much heavier, I couldn't find anything in stores. But I lost weight, I can buy all the clothes I want in stores... I sort of stopped sewing altogether. But I missed being creative, making things. This cosplay thing gave me my sewing mojo back!

I sew a lot because I'm just not an average shape. The amount of alterations I need to make sewing…I just couldn't buy off the shelf and not look like I was either swamped or busting out.
I sew everyday stuff, vintage inspired stuff (for dancing) and historical/cosplay…for fun really till I discovered comicons. I've got a regency 'wardrobe' for going to jane austen festival later in the year (its where it all started in 2012. I needed a regency frock so I learned to sew).

By the way, thanks for the link to the spats tutorial, I've been puzzling all weekend about how I was going to draft a pattern to cut my leather - and I had a brain wave seeing the duck tape mold... brilliant! I think it's going to work quite well. Hopefully I'll have some time the coming days to have a go at it. I'll make a 'muslin' first, of course. Wouldn't want to waste my leather! Then, I need to find a leather punch and eyelets...
