The 89 MattMobile Build Thread.

Do you have a picture of one of those bumpers that will sit on the mounting arms? How does it attach to the arm?

I don't have the bumpers on hand yet, but as soon as I get them I will for sure post pics. For mounting, we will drill a hole into the bottom of the mounting box/bracket, and just thread the screw that is mounted to the bumper up through it. Then do the same on the mounting arm that we will fabricate.

if that all sounds a little confusing, I'm sure a few pics will fix that, once completed.

As of right now, I'm headed back to the shop tomorrow to finish up fiberglassing in all of the boxes. I did a few hours of work just the other day, making second passes at the boxes. Almost done now.

Matt I'm a big fan and love the build. I've been following many of the various builds on ChicksLoveTheCar and the detail you give is truly appreciated.

Like all things Batman, has Warner Bros given you any grief about this build? I know they guard their intellectual property very aggressively.

New video, this one showing the mounting blocks:

So far, no trouble. I am seemingly one of the rare few builders who recognizes that I am building mine at the good graces of WB, and should they choose to shut me down, I would not cry foul. I'll lay odds that they are aware of my build, but for whatever reason, they've chosen not to come after me. There was a lot of bru-haha over the past 12 months about the legalities of building and selling batmobiles, much of which can be researched in this very thread on previous pages :D

what I have found, is that on something this huge you have stay focused. i.e. you have to make choices, like forgoing being a great portrait sculptor, or building the latest batsuit, in my particular case. And then after you basically have it finished, you will be spending several years improving things, changing things ect. I often want to do so much more than a batmobile, but you just can't do it all. not enough time in the day.

I could see WB giving someone a hard time who is building batmobiles to sell, but what is wrong with someone building one for themselves? There's nothing "illegal" about that, is there?

Its actually entirely illegal, though the intuition is the opposite. This has been discussed at length earlier in the thread if youre interested in more info :)

Doody, thanks for your post. Nice to know that you are following the thread. You are of course a huge inspiration to me.

I do indeed believe that tenacity is the most important skill in a project like this. Other stuff can be learned or hired out for, but the ability to see the project through to the end is something you either have... Or don't.

I finished glassing in the last of the support mounts last night. DIRTY work, and really glad to be done with it. Next up, building the support arms.

Loving all this so far but youtube won't let me watch the latest on iPad or iPhone :( will have to catch up when I get on the laptop :):thumbsup

That's stupid! Just wanted to be the only person to day this. ;)

Good job man. Glad to see it back on track!

Thank you Matt. I was having separation anxiety and feel much better now. I am also home sick on the couch not able to do anything but watch TV and surf the ipad. This made me happy.

Jedifyfe: a proper RPF burn is "That's not accurate."

You would, of course, lose some of your Jedifyfe points for saying it. That is, of couse, until you Jedifyfe yourself, and point out how wrong you are.

Strange! Sometimes it does take a while for the mobile version to become available, but it's working ok on my iPhone. who knows! Maybe the UK has blocked all mattmobile videos :D

Brad: you never disappoint. :p

Thanks for all the support guys. As always, I'm constantly looking for ways to improve my build or find things I didn't notice. if you see anything that YOU think could be done differently, please let me know.

Very possible lol I can't watch a lot of tube videos on iPad from overseas, strange but true :)
