The 89 MattMobile Build Thread.

I feel so unworthy commenting on this, but I have been following and it's amazing. It's so cool that you have the resources to really make this dream come true.

Matt, awesome progress, as usual. It looks like Bo has turned out to be a godsend...and a really good sport, to boot.

This thread has inspired me to start restoring my dad's first gen Camaro...not a Batmobile, but a good project nonetheless. ;) It's amazing how much you learn along the way when you start a big project like a car build.

Tim, if you ever need any help with your car... bo is available!!! :D
Best of luck with your restoration sir! I hope it finds its way into a thread here on the board. As you say, I"m sure there's a ton of knowledge and experience that could be gained by fellow car enthusiasts here, including myself.

Jheilman, thanks! It's been a long time coming, and without joking, this has been in the back of my mind for 23 years. Even more so for the past 8. It's something I've been steadily working towards for years and years, and it STILL does not get old when I walk into the garage and see it there in front of me :D

Thanks, man. Chevyhotrod has been hugely helpful via PM, and I've been chipping away at the rust a bit at a time. I'm actually going to need somebody that can do good sheet metal and welding work, so if Bo has an East-Coast clone, I'm hiring him. ;)

Anyway, don't want to derail the awesome train of the MattMobile. ;) Looking forward to seeing the shell on the chassis!

I got in a couple of hours of body work yesterday. I'm patching up the really big gaps and mis-keyed parts of the body right now. I'm also still working on the gas cap, and the seam to the left of it. Just a lot of sanding, puttying, and primering. Not much fun, but so much to do. I don't want to get too deep into it before mounting the body, but it's a productive way to pass the time while I await Bo's return.

I've also been working on editing together my interview with Keith Carter, which is a great companion piece to the interview with Abby Dark Star. If you haven't seen it yet, please check it out here:

Awww thanks for credit, all I really did was give you some advice. Can not wait to see the shell on the frame and the car running

Holy crap Matt. You are attacking that shell FULL FORCE. It already looks 100 times cleaner!

Still LOADS of work to do, but I'm hitting the low hanging fruit. Still getting comfortable with the tools and materials, just finding my way. It's still a lot of fun, which is a good thing.

Bo is coming over today and we are going to take another run at the engine mounts. I have changed direction since the last video, and decided to put the engine in a different place, at a different height. As the Dude would say "new *&^% has come to light!"

Just have to say Matt, this is a great stuff! Extremely excellant project, I am absolutely enjoying the crap ouT of this build, thank you for sharing all of your work, and providing great videos for all us geeks! Keep it up man, best of luck to you.

You know, and I'm just spitballin' here, but I think it might be wise to make the turbine fan spin...
