The 89 MattMobile Build Thread.

It still looks like a caprice. In order for the mattmobile to rise, the caprice must fall!

Have you purchased the body kit yet? I am curious what one gets with the shell. Is it all one piece and you have to cut the panels, or does it come with the hood and canopy separate?

Big news is that the garage is all finished being organized, and I've pulled the caprice in! Whoohoo! Let the tear down begin!

I would offer to give some pointers on removing the body from the chassis, but right now the only thing I could say is buy a bulk pack of saws-all blades ! (A cutting torch would seem better, until you start igniting hidden foam insulation in the body panels.)

Here was my project, post-body removal, and pre-build :

First big step has been taken!!! Spot lights have been removed. I know it's a baby step, but it's the FIRST step!

good luck on your custom. a suggestion is to find a model kit of a caprice and the batmobile in the same sale and it will help you know were to cut and if you mess up it's just a plastic kit not a full size car. or if you have photo shop take a pic of the car and get a to scale image of the batmobile and do the same thing.

Iceman, that looks great! what kind of car did you use as a donor? any other pics? Do you have a blog?

The vehicle was a custom prototype for the company I work for -
Ford 32 valve cobra engine, Austrailan suspension, brembo brakes, custom frame.

I am not as eloquent a narrator as Mr. Munson, but I do have progress pics, which is rare for me ,as I usually get too wrapped up in a build to stop and take pics.

Troop Transport

(Please excuse the thread-jack)

Ah yes! The troop transport! I think I may have seen that in person a few years ago at a NorCal prop party???? The one at that dudes empty office building??????

awesome stuff man!

I have put together a very quick episode of the series to commemorate the official beginning of the tear down. It should be up shortly.

Thanks -

Forgot to mention, and you probably already considered it, but if you are going to be doing any cutting, make sure you know where the wiring harness, fuel line, brake lines , and e-brake cables are routed. You don't want to accidentally cut through them !
