The 89 MattMobile Build Thread.

HOAs are probably one of the worst ideas ever in my opinion....because I feel you never truely own your home, because too many missed HOA payments and they can try and take your house.

But on the noise issue....I use power tools all the time, play drums, electric guitar, and have yet to get a noise complaint... so your neighbor is just an *****
Don't pay your property taxes and you lose your home as well. Private property is a myth.

Guys, while I appreciate the support, I don't want the thread to turn into a political rant playground. It's no big deal, and I'm over it. I've got contingency plans i place, and I'm moving forward with the build.

I live in one of the safest neighborhoods in america, and it has more amenities than a Sandals resort! lol. Except no free booze. That's why I throw parties though :) I love my home, and I'm not going to let a pesky neighbor crush my dreams.

End of story.

Sorry to hear that Matt. I was thinking you must be a God among your neighbors NOT to have any complaints so far. One mans fun is another mans torment. This is coming from a guy who has a garage full of bikes.....loud glorious bikes.

Im sure you have a copy of the CC&R's. Look it over and see if there is anything specifically banning what you are doing. A small aircraft hangar with power is all you need. Check around at El Monte, Torrence, Fullerton and Compton airports for cheap hangars. Once upon a time, hangars were the cheapest commercial space in Santa Monica. Now they are filled with car collections instead of airplanes.:lol

This might help:

Amen to that Matt! On with the build!! Live the dream!!

Christian, there are indeed things in the CC&R that specifically forbid what I'm doing. At the end of the day, I signed up for it knowingly, but hoped that my neighbors would be cool with it. ALL of them are, save 1. And it only takes 1 to ruin the party.

The hangar I'm looking at is indeed the cheapest commercial real estate you'll ever find. I'm actually pretty excited about the idea of moving there, as there are a lot of really great benefits to doing the build there. Not only would there be a ton more space and no noise issues, but one of my best friends lives just a couple blocks away and has offered to let me stay at his place. So really, I'm more confident than ever that this move will help propel the build along faster.

Thats' another thing: I could throw a FULL BLOWN prop party there at ANY time, and we could go all night.

Yeah, you heard me.

:thumbsup :love

Upside for me would be that I could come and watch...

Same here Brad, only every 5 or 10 mins I am sure I would hear Matt say "Chevy/Andrew come help me install this"

I really don't blame the HOA, and I personally have benefited immensely from living in this community with all of its rules. It's give and take. I guess I'll have to see what happens.

Oh, and for the record, this is the same guy that called the cops to shut down my MattMobile party at 10:00 PM. On a Saturday. Because we were talking too loud.

Remind me at the next party to park near his house, and rev the motor on my chevelle for 5 minutes straight after 10 Pm Matt.

Ah, exactly what I needed right now. A good laugh to brighten up my day. The only one who complains when I am making too much noise in my garage is my wife. Except for when i get epoxy on the dining room table. Oh boy watch out then :lol

Anyways, Matt don't let the guy get you down. Look at it as a way to get more space for your project and your parties. Getting a bigger space to work in when I moved is what got me off my butt to finish my 1:1 speeder bike build.

If you are getting a hanger to work in is the next project the bat plane ? ;)

Funny you should mention that. My friend Bill, who DOES build airplanes as a hobby, suggested the same thing. He's got two planes in progress right now, perhaps one of them deserves to be painted black. :D

Bit of progress today, and a new blog entry to chat it up. Mostly body work and fiberglassing, but definitely progress. Here's how the beast looks as of right now.

The Project Workbench: MattMobile Body Work and Fiberglassing

Having it up that high has to make body work easier on the back.

Yes, absolutely. I noticed this just today. It makes access to a lot of parts MUCH easier. I think actually affixing the shell to the body will be one of the last things I do.

I just finished my first draft of my letter to my neighbor, where I try to come to some kind of compromise about working in the garage and noise levels. I'll get it to him later tonight. Hopefully something will work out.

If you relocate, i'm 10 minutes from LAX and willing to lend a hand.

I am 20 or 30 and you know my skill sets Matt.

If that does not work. You can always throw another party, ill drive my chevelle out there and spend 10 mins unhooking the exhaust pipes. This would basically make it open headers Then rev my motor for 5 minutes straight after 9 or 10 pm. This would I am sure would keep him up, and would get you sweet revenge!
