The 89 MattMobile Build Thread.

That's gonna be sick when it's done. I'd take that thing through the drive thru of Dunkin Donuts every morning for coffee.

Nice!!

Wow! That LeMans car is hot!.

Thats a whole lotta rubber you got there Matt. Looking good man. Really loving this build.:cheers

No building today, but a few logistics taken care of. Picked up the black sandable primer I need, found an AWESOME metal supply place just a few minutes away that has EVERYTHING in the world. It was here that I acquired the box steel needed to build new engine mounts.

I also picked up a replacement 1/4 ratchet for my tool set that somehow got lost. If not for the fact that we needed it yesterday, I probably would not have bothered.

I just had a thought. When everything is down and the shell is mounted on the frame, is your garage door tall enough to allow the car in and out? I ask this as I was over at my mothers house earlier and my suburban with the antennas and the light bar is just a touch too tall to fit in her garage. And the mattmobile's tail fins are a bit tall.

Speaking 1st hand I can tell you this much, the body being mounted to the frame the MattMobile will still clear the garage vertically with a whole bunch of room to spare. If I had to throw out measurements I would say the Matt Moblie will ride no more then 5-7 feet off the ground(with the air ride/hydraulic suspension up to max ride height). The Garage is 10-12 feet tall. You would be surprised how low the Matt Mobile is off the ground when you look at the frame and shell 1st hand.

Also for the record grey most garages have a height of 10-15 feet, allowing for most cars to be put in just fine. The only time I have ever seen a car not fit in a garage is in high school. A girl I was dating had a K-10 blazer with a 24 inch lift kit on it. Let me just say it was a pain in the butt to work on, had to basically do all the work on a ladder!!! One day when we were drinking she tried put the blazer as close to the garage as possible to see how far off it was, the bumper basically reached the top of the garage door.

Congrats on the successful party and thanks for posting pics for us non Facebook people.

Does the Batmobile have the engine mounted in the rear or do you have yet to swing the chassis around in the garage?

Are the rims on this version black or chrome? I see pictures of both.

And if they are black are you going to paint or powder coat them?

Regardless, this is looking amazing.

The rims will be painted black. But that's low on my list. The main priority right now is to get it driving. Anything that does not contribute to that goal will be avoided or ignored.

Unless I have free time, while waiting for something to happen.

lol. I was really surprised how many times I was asked that at the party. The chassis is in the garage head first, the shell is tail first.

Hey Matt, I don't know if this was covered but are you making the car rear wheel, front wheel, or all wheel drive?

Also what is that engine? Is it a 4cyl?
