The 89 MattMobile Build Thread.

All kinds of dashboard magic today. Got my laser cut dash panels AND my full set of gauges.

The Project Workbench: Dashboard Panels and Gauges

Matt I assume you had panels measured to fit the exact sizing of all these gauges?

Also as far as the Frame stretch goes, you definatly want some kind of support in there. I also agree that a X Brace or two will greatly help. Lastly remember with that frame stretch goes it will change the geometry of the car, so make sure you take the into account with the suspension and trying to take turns at 80 MPH.... Oh wait that last part is just me:facepalm

Yup, the dash panels are specifically designed for THOSE Gauges.

BUT WHO CARES! THE SHELL IS COMING!!! I just got word from the driver that he has just left vegas, and will be in Irvine soon!!

Chevy, you wanna come help unload the thing tomorrow morning???

Shell no there yet? what a loooong wait. Hey looks like your need my steel dash soon...for all those gauges. I used 4" box tubing on my 89 stretch...only way to go, I see others are taking my lead...safety first!

Safety first indeed!!

Aside from the first aborted shell attempt, the second one went smoothly, and was pretty much right on schedule. I lost a month in the shipping logistics, but I'm REALLY happy with how things ultimately panned out. I hm'd and haw'd for like a month over pricing, options, etc for shipping. Then one day my neighbor made a suggestion that sent me down a different path, and things came together quickly after that.

At the end of the day, I'm slightly past the 1 year mark on this project, which is stunning as the time has just slipped by. Welcome to getting old, I suppose :D

Steel dash... YES!!!!

Omassix you are too kind... AND you're in SoCal!! Be sure to come by for the batmobile kick off party later this month!

Try to run a separate ground for each gauge, on a friend's IMCA car 1 gauge not grounding properly took out the back lights for all of his gauges. Not fun when racing at night with lots of shadows from the track lights.

Sleep has actually been pretty elusive lately. I've been averaging about four hours per twenty four. Which is frickin' rough, I promise you. lol

But with all the projects I've got cooking right now, there's just no time. Many have sort of come to a head lately, like commissions that are due, and videos that I needed to get finished. But I think the storm is just about over.

Which is the perfect time for the shell to show up. lol

Quick update, pics soon.

Shell is here, and it's BEAUTIFUL!!! And if fits perfectly in the garage with a couple inches to spare. No problems at all. Everything went as smooth as silk, and I owe a huge than you to a number of RPF members for their help unloading.

More details soon ;D

Sounds like things are going GREAT Matt! I hope it keeps going well! You've got a lot to look forward to with this project!!

You're gonna need a bumper sticker for it that reads...

My other car is a... WHO CARES, I HAVE A FRICKIN' BATMOBILE!
