The 2009 "$1 Store" Lightsaber Contest.

Im def gonna give this a shot! Made plenty of sabers from PVC, but not 1$ items. Should be fun, just not to find a "true" dollar store around here...

Just joined and my first post is to say I'm in! I'm fairly new to the whole prop making thing but this'll be fun. :D

Welcome to the boards, and the contest.

Thanks! Quick question... If I want to have batteries in my lightsaber do they count towards the $20 and I assume they have to be dollar store batteries?

OO, very good question. As long as there are no objections, and as long as the batters are not being used as part of the structure of the saber itself (i.e. they can only be used for power, not to hold up another part, or because they look cool. etc. etc.), then I wont count them towards the $20. total. And, that of course goes for everyone, and all types of batters. (though yes, it would be nice for the spirit of the contest, if they where $1 store batters. :) )

I will however, point out, with a little looking you might be able to kill a few birds with $1. Most Dollar Tree's I've been in, sell these little clip on LED lights. For $1. you get an LED, 3 good button cell batters (that actually usually power the LED for quite a wile.) and with a little creativity you can cut the battery holder out of the light, and use it too. Just a thought. ;) Though I will point out in that case it would count toward the $20. since you would be using some of the parts for the making of the saber itself.

I actually always get my white LEDs that way. Why pay $3. or $4. for just the LED at Radioshack when I can get the LED, batters, and a holder, for $1. :)

I'm no SW fan so I will sit this one out.

Can't wait to see everyones interpretations though.

I am delighted to see this much participation! I can't wait to see the pictures of finished sabres start to roll in!

Just managed to get in on the open registration and find out about the contest, so I'm getting a late start--but what better way to celebrate getting to sign up?

Just got to remember to get it built and the picture in by December 1st...

Welcome to the boards. What a great way to get started!

I was well up for a pop at this one, but a visit to the pound shop proved fruitless, half the shop was tinsel and baubles.
Maybe I could do a festive saber ! :lol

Yeah, the time would be right for a holiday saber. :)

You may want to stay away from the Christmas ball shaped ornaments though, because a cylindrical lightsaber with "Christmas balls", would be less of a lightsaber, and more of a................ Um........... well a different kind of replica. :lol

Good job Jason resurrecting this contest! I will look around if you want for the pics of the original winners. 1st prize back then was a set of ABS Sun block back in 2004!! You have done well in your prizes!!!

It would be great to see some of the old pics. :)

Though I would recommend that you post them in the other thread discussing the contests of old. just to keep things from getting confusing over here in this thread.. (Just a thought. :) )
