That's no egg... that's a space station!

It's that time of the year again! The Annual Easter Egg Hunt! (at another forum, but I like to share my craziness...)

Last year I did this one; http://www.therpf.com/f11/scratchbuilt-st-easter-twist-211741/#post3288741

And this year, something in the same theme...

Aaaand we're off! And like any egg that's off... you need to clean them!

IMG_20150314_123518_zpsldmb7zjn.jpg

Begone, foul spots! Only took a bit of scrubbing with a sponge and some nailpolish remover... Groovy...
IMG_20150314_124725_zpsw79g3gfg.jpg

Speaking of groovy... this thing needs a trench. How can you have a trench-run without a trench?

So we sacrifice one egg to make a guide to draw some parallel lines...
IMG_20150314_125453_zps8gkvwmx9.jpg

Sorted!
IMG_20150314_125523_zpsrovpc3ot.jpg

Two halves make a whole...
IMG_20150314_130233_zpskipxx2e3.jpg

One half -gets- a hole...
IMG_20150314_130725_zpsbro6oo3u.jpg

...aaaand the hole gets another half...
IMG_20150314_131928_zpsusqlakf8.jpg

CA-glue, some kicker, a sanding stick and a little elbow-grease later we have a massive planet-killing laser cannon dish thingy!
IMG_20150314_132432_zpsoh4pg1wu.jpg

And now we start working on making those halves whole again...
IMG_20150314_135049_zps96u16wqf.jpg

Cutting more discs... and holes in the discs...
IMG_20150314_145229_zpstbmjby7v.jpg

Each half gets a disc...
IMG_20150314_150118_zpskkzp3wcu.jpg

Another disc to separate the two halves...
IMG_20150314_164017_zpstzxqf3g6.jpg

And we have a whole(ish) egg again...
IMG_20150314_164638_zpsr1rc1jbc.jpg

One egg gets sacrificed so I can draw parallel lines on another egg... That's number 3...
IMG_20150314_155915_zpsamlxengj.jpg

IMG_20150314_160000_zpse2fowrp7.jpg

And we cut the egg to pieces...
IMG_20150314_170206_zpsjtueg5sn.jpg

...and we glue all the pieces to the first egg...
IMG_20150314_180256_zpsmtz3jrn5.jpg

IMG_20150314_203828_zpsqibazqr4.jpg

IMG_20150315_141849_zpsmanfso46.jpg

Capped, with a stand from a left-over bit of shell, and ready for another round of plates...
IMG_20150315_154320_zpsitwzqkma.jpg

This is going to take a while...
IMG_20150315_161951_zpsv0dmij3x.jpg

More sooooon!

IMG_20150316_132537_zpsygrt9snp.jpg

Paint time! Grey primer first... (I ran out of egg-shell white...)
IMG_20150316_134742_zpso8m0wxfv.jpg

Pre-shade...
IMG_20150316_135400_zpscnlewwdu.jpg

And covered in RLM 84, Light Grey and a dusting of Gunmetal Black Metallic. The effect is very subtle. Alas too sublte for a camera...
IMG_20150316_140836_zpsdko6tjo0.jpg

And a coat of Klear... Ready for a wash as soon as the it's dried thoroughly.

Next; working on the stand and preparing for Stage Two (Dun-dun Duuuunnnnn!)

More sooooon!

Time to take a stand! Or make a stand...

Printed out a line drawing of the Imperial logo and glued it to a piece of 0.25mm styrene with a paper-glue stick, then pierced each corner with a needle.
IMG_20150316_153504_zpsge4ep06a.jpg

A nice fresh hobby blade and some cuts later...
IMG_20150316_153708_zpss5cdhxoe.jpg

IMG_20150316_154729_zpsbkwf2vc6.jpg

I glued it to the bit of egg-base I was already using, just need to make a few cuts here and there to make the flat piece conform to the curved surface.
IMG_20150316_160243_zpstatd1xmy.jpg

Filled in all the cuts with some CA-glue gave it all a bit of sanding...
IMG_20150316_162412_zpsagtoahma.jpg

A coat of primer, then a layer of Gunmetal Black Metalic, and a drybrush with Bright Brass... very shiny after a coat of Klear.
IMG_20150316_164232_zps3ghev4xt.jpg

And tomorrow I hopefully get the stuff I need for Phase Two...

More sooooon!

Wow, that thing is amazing. So now who gets to sue.... Disney now owning Star Wars...or Sega with their death egg from the Sonic games. Actually surprising George didn't sue Sega over that.
I need to get back working on my death star.
