It's that time of the year again! The Annual Easter Egg Hunt! (at another forum, but I like to share my craziness...)

Last year I did this one; http://www.therpf.com/f11/scratchbuilt-st-easter-twist-211741/#post3288741

And this year, something in the same theme...

Aaaand we're off! And like any egg that's off... you need to clean them!

Begone, foul spots! Only took a bit of scrubbing with a sponge and some nailpolish remover... Groovy...

Speaking of groovy... this thing needs a trench. How can you have a trench-run without a trench?

So we sacrifice one egg to make a guide to draw some parallel lines...

    Sorted!

    Two halves make a whole...

    One half -gets- a hole...

...aaaand the hole gets another half...

CA-glue, some kicker, a sanding stick and a little elbow-grease later we have a massive planet-killing laser cannon dish thingy!

And now we start working on making those halves whole again...

Cutting more discs... and holes in the discs...

    Each half gets a disc...

Another disc to separate the two halves...

And we have a whole(ish) egg again...

One egg gets sacrificed so I can draw parallel lines on another egg... That's number 3...

And we cut the egg to pieces...

...and we glue all the pieces to the first egg...

Capped, with a stand from a left-over bit of shell, and ready for another round of plates...

This is going to take a while...

    More sooooon!

Don't be too proud of this ovular terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of a really nice omelet with a bit of parmesan and some scallions.

Time to take a stand! Or make a stand...

Printed out a line drawing of the Imperial logo and glued it to a piece of 0.25mm styrene with a paper-glue stick, then pierced each corner with a needle.
    IMG_20150316_153504_zpsge4ep06a.jpg

A nice fresh hobby blade and some cuts later...
    IMG_20150316_153708_zpss5cdhxoe.jpg

    IMG_20150316_154729_zpsbkwf2vc6.jpg

I glued it to the bit of egg-base I was already using, just need to make a few cuts here and there to make the flat piece conform to the curved surface.
    IMG_20150316_160243_zpstatd1xmy.jpg

Filled in all the cuts with some CA-glue gave it all a bit of sanding...
    IMG_20150316_162412_zpsagtoahma.jpg

A coat of primer, then a layer of Gunmetal Black Metalic, and a drybrush with Bright Brass... very shiny after a coat of Klear.
    IMG_20150316_164232_zps3ghev4xt.jpg

And tomorrow I hopefully get the stuff I need for Phase Two...

    More sooooon!

And a lot (and I mean A LOT) of sanding to get it into shape...

This is indeed quite impressive. The attention to detail is only surpassed by the sheer absurdity of egg-based space stations and fighter ships. I, for one, am waiting on eggshells for an update.

I AM CRACKING UNDER THE PRESSURE!!

    Well, not really...

First, I made a template for the wing so I had an idea of the size and angles and stuff...
    IMG_20150324_132848_zps8nvmypvs.jpg

That gave me a sense of the size the engines should be. I started out by covering some tube with 1mm wide half-round strip of Evergreen. 8 strips in total, evenly spaced. Gotta love Evergreen...
    IMG_20150324_142451_zpsf08qbosx.jpg

...and then cut the resulting ribbed tube into engine sections...
    IMG_20150324_143754_zps8jn8cewl.jpg

I shaped the rear end and fitted a wider tube around the front end...
    IMG_20150324_145533_zpsc4pobjse.jpg

Made them all the same size and gave the rear of the engines a ring. Engines love rings...
    IMG_20150324_150704_zpsubhwhznc.jpg

Time to make some intakes. I started by closing off a bit of the larger size tube I already used on the other half of the engine.
    IMG_20150324_152323_zpshu16ko18.jpg

Excess cut off and the whole thing sanded until it was round...
    IMG_20150324_152814_zpssip4qgqu.jpg

Cut to size, a hole drilled and reamed out so you get a nice intake shape. I attached it to the main body of the engine with a t-shaped bit of styrene.
    IMG_20150324_160325_zpsflbuqtsn.jpg

The sticky-out bits of the T cut off and sanded smooth...
    IMG_20150324_160600_zpspgrkvyb2.jpg

Repeat until cross-eyed and you have four engines. I greebled up the engines with some random panels too...
    IMG_20150324_173546_zpsqmtrh6mh.jpg

Back to the wing. After I cut out four wings using the template I made a second, slightly smaller template to make panels for on top of the wings.
    IMG_20150324_183808_zpsakr8qmvn.jpg

I ended up with two tiny templates (numbered 1 and 2) and a spacer (marked X) to keep the space between the panels constant and a perfect fit for the engines. I marked the templates on some styrene and cut out enough panels to do the wings.
    IMG_20150324_191405_zpsuthg2pyc.jpg

    Panels fixed to the wings...
    IMG_20150324_192810_zpscw060tzg.jpg

Laser cannons, from some stainless steel welding rod, half a ring of styrene tube...
    IMG_20150324_200234_zpszbgqepbm.jpg

    Result!
    IMG_20150324_202619_zpsoexgva6s.jpg

Cannons fitted into some more tube glued to the wings...
    IMG_20150324_202630_zpslcsfvm4b.jpg

And wings fitted to the hull...
    IMG_20150324_203423_zpshpeojhha.jpg

    IMG_20150324_203439_zpskh9h4pdv.jpg

    And on to Phase Three...

This works even better in German: a T-EI Fighter (T-Egg fighter, pronounced like T.I.E.) group needs to go after that Eggs-Wing.
