Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)

Do you even watch dvd extras? Do you know how much hard work, dedication and creativity goes into a film like this?

Hell, as much as you might hate him, Bay LOVES what he does. He and the director may have made some WEEEEEERRIIIIIRD casting choices here but they're not half-assing anything.

I don't actually care how much he loves what he's doing. He's not a good filmmaker. He's a SUCCESSFUL one, but hey, so was Roger Corman. Actually, that's how I see him: Roger Corman with a big budget. I mean, fine, he puts a lot of effort into his awful films, so I'll give him an "E for effort," but honestly? I don't care. The fact that he worked really really hard to make his crappy film doesn't make me want to see it any more.

You may not be familiar with my rants on here about this issue, but my focus isn't actually Bay himself. I mean, yeah, I think he makes crappy films, but big deal. My main gripe is with the studio execs who continue to give him work and who continue to crank out dreck with a recognizeable trademark on the belief that that's enough to make your money. And sadly, it is.

If you stripped out the brand names from several films in the last few years, I bet they would've been ripped to shreds by critics and the target market alike. Rename the characters and the film from "G.I. Joe" to "American Commandos" and what have you got? A crappy film with a big budget that nobody really gives a damn about. Rename the characters and the film from "Transformers" to "Megabots" and what have you got? Right. A crappy film with a big budget that nobody really gives a damn about. People see these movies because of the name recognition. And it's that name recognition that lets them ignore what they'd otherwise think is crap. So, instead of "Spike" in "American Commandos," we have "Duke" in "G.I. Joe." Bim bam boom, people love the film. Candy from a baby, man.

I'd tend to agree with you on the success of GI Joe depending on the brand but a film like Transformers was unlike anythi.g we'd seen before. Naming it "MegaBots" would still probably mean a very healthy box-office.

Also, most of the people who are fans of the Turtles are fans BECAUSE it's a brand based on selling out with cheap dreck churned out by hacks and execs after cashing in.

Seems they're simply maintaining the spirit. :)

you've never seen the 2k3 series, have you? next mutation i'd agree with

My only gripe so far, based on past films by all involved in this project. That it is a pretty safe guess, that the film won't be appropriate for my 6 year old, to go see. By my own very strict criteria of course. Just like GI Joe, and Transformers.

If your criteria is "Not crap," then I wholeheartedly support your decision.

Oh, who am I kidding. I support your decision to not show your kid those movies regardless of your reasons why. ;)

I pitty you all who hate bay. You dont get to enjoy these films like I do. Not only that. You whine all day about it....
Lol
Its business I think your all forgetting. You go make a film that makes over a billion! Its ridiculous how you all share your opinions as fact. Someone so self indulgent could never appreciate a film they dont like from anothers perspective.

Not sure if anyone saw this.

Whoopi Goldberg joins the cast of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES!! Pics from the set!! - Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

As for the above post, everyone is entitled to their opinions. Now wether they are fact or not doesn't matter, it's all perspective. That being said, Michael Bay is a ****poor story teller and sacrifices any sort of decent story for explosions and eyeball porn. Now if you're easily amused, then the transformer movies are perfect as that's what the general population are. That's my opinion.

The reason they keep doing it is because people keep watching them. Regardless of the opinions, MB's movies make ridiculous amounts of money for the studio. While the actual GOOD movies fly completely under most people's radar.

bay knows that explosions and hot women showing off cleevage gets teenagers in these things and they're the only audience hollywood cares about. Nice to see they got whoopi to join the cast, that should bring some controversy considering the crap she likes to spew.

I don't get why when films are made from established franchises, with established characters, that movie studios decide it's always a great idea to change everything.

And what I have against Whoopi is that she is on the tv show "The View". It's just a bunch of people squawking at each other to the point it makes me want to rather listen to white noise on my tv, turned up all the way just to get the memory out of my head. Other than that I think she can be funny and can act well. I just don't think it's appropriate to make such an unneeded character change.

The studio likes to stomp all over people's love. I'm positive any practical FX studio would climb over each other to make ninja turtle suits for the movie.

I was all excited by this film, then I realized that they cast vapid, valley-girl, no-respect-for-the-man-that-plucked-you-out-of-obscurity-and-made-you-an-international-star, makes-a-Hitler-reference-around-Steven Spielberg Megan Fox.... as April O'Neill, intrepid reporter.

My interest has waned to nothing. In fact, I have negative interest now.

I think this film is in good hands with Jonathan Liebesman at the helm, director of the instant classics

Wrath of the Titans and Battle Los Angeles. Just kidding this thing is doomed.

Erik Davis of Movies.com posted the following on Twitter.

"So I spent all day on the set of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES & apart from LOVING the new look, I can absolutely confirm it will be badass"

"I have to be mega vague, but as a longtime fan of TMNT I was SO happy with what I saw. They're doing it right. Trust."

Sounds like he's on someone's payroll. They said the same thing about Tranformers and most of the older fans of the franchise despise it. Bay can't do anything to make core audiences happy because he has to make everything hip and trendy.

I know it seems that way. And I understand if others would feel the same way.

But besides Erik, many other writers were also on set and we will see more detailed set reports in the coming days from various sites. I don't think all those will be paid to write positive experiences too.

Erik was the editor of Cinematical for years, after that closed he and his team started Movies.com and he is quite reputable in the movie website community.

And though most things about this movie are hardly exciting news, I am still trying to remain hopeful to see a good TMNT film. And this set report blurb is definitely encouraging for now
