Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)

I just can't figure out why they would cast a LITTLE PERSON (happy?) as splinter. It would make no sense to have 4 turtles ranging in height from 5'8 to 6'3 and then have a splinter stand 4'0 tall. I mean rats and turtles are pretty much the same size. I'm wondering though if they're gonna have him on stilts maybe since splinters legs are skinny and have the weird curve thingie. His arms would still be an issue though. If that's the case, then I would of preferred an actor with a deeper voice like Peter Dinklage. He would of been 10X better.

I just don know why they would choose him. I mean there's no way he could teach the turtles ninjutsu at his size and the fact he can't walk properly.

Isn't Shredder now going by the German name Schraeder?

Ok, then. In this version, Splinter is actually S.P Linder a dwarf of German descent whose Grandfather killed the Grandfather of Schrader while stationed in Japan just after the war. Linder's grandfather learned Japanese martial arts during his time there and passed those skills down to his grandson. That's why he can teach them Ninjitsu while not actually being Japanese.

The puppet from the old movies was probably that scale, and didn't walk well (can barely remember him walking of standing at all). The issue here again is the voice - I guess he wasn't raised in Japan as Hamato Yoshi's pet (comic storyline) or mutated from Yoshi himself. Japan seems to be out the window, as neither Splinter nor Shredder have ties to it. Everyone's from Dimension X I guess.

All of which makes me wonder why they delayed it at all. Everyone presumed they were fixing all the stuff that fans were clearly rejecting, but I suppose they were massaging dialogue or something. If they weren't transformed by the ooze, they're not "mutants." If there's no Japan, they're not "Ninjas." If they came from another dimension, they're not "turtles." Make your crummy movie under a different name!

I don't think splinter was 4' in the movies. When Casey is helping him leave the foots compound, he'd have to be hunched over pretty far not to mention he was roughly around the same height as shredder when the shredder attacks him.

I'm really hoping that whatever it is they have planned for splinter has everyone go "Oh, well that's not too bad then" although the likelihood is pretty slim I'd say.

I really don't think there is much to complain about casting decisions. Unless the actors have no acting skills. The majority of the characters are most likely going to be done 90-100% CGI anyway.

Has anyone been reading the IDW TMNT comics? I just recently started. I think there could be a lot of similarities from that story in this movie.
In the IDW TMNT story, the turtles and Splinter are mutated by the ooze...which is from General Krang (alien origin....makes sense with all the talk about the turtles being of "alien origin"). The mutation happens very quick...18 months. They are also reincarnations of Yoshi's previous life in feudal japan (Yoshi and his 4 sons). April O'Neil is a college student interning at Stockgen, and Casey Jones is also a college student.

The Shredder is the immortal Saki (I believe...after reading "The Secret History of the Foot"). In IDW TMNT #2, the Shredder is a Foot Ninja and breaks into Stockgen to steal the ooze. Splinter (still in small rat form) attacks him and scars his face. The Shredder drops the ooze and the turtles, thus creating the now mutated turtles and Splinter. In the IDW TMNT MicroSeries Leonardo, Shredder is the Foot Soldier that defeats Leonardo. Then in IDW TMNT #12, Leonardo recognizes the unmasked Shredder as the Foot Soldier that defeated him.

In this case, I agree that the "nationality" of the Shredder should be Japanese (if the movie follows this story). I do think that there could be a way to spinoff this story, in certain areas, while keeping the origin the same. I personally like this version of the TMNT story. I think it is extremely engaging and connects several different key characters together over a long period of time (feudal japan to present day).

I'm definitely in the minority here when I say that I don't mind and have no problem with the turtles being CG, to me it doesn't make a difference. What's important is how they look and how they act, not which medium was used. CG doesn't automatically mean bad just like practical doesn't automatically mean good. You can have good CG and bad practical and vice versa so it doesn't really matter which they go so long as the people doing it do a good job.

To me, it seems theire isn't going to be any important on culture and Martial Arts. White guys as Splinter and Shredder? when there clearly of Asian descent. At what point does general Shredder, whatever, learn martial arts and crosses paths with Lil Splinter?

Megan Fox is pretty awesome for me, im not expecting any Oscars or enjoyment in this movie but at least i have eye candy to look out for. So much for honoring the source material, this iteration of turtles have been bayed to the extreme.

All we have are some pics and a bunch of unsupported rumors and it's already the worst movie ever created? Are you guys for real?

I fully expect to see some sort of CG in this movie and that in itself has never bothered me. What bothers me (and it seems a good portion of people) are the casting choices (outside of the turtles themselves), the various rumors of a horrid storyline (which only very minor parts have been dispelled) and Michael "Must Have More Explosions" Bay being involved. Also, the photo stills that have been released thus fur, especially those of the Foot Clan, does not give me much optimism (if there was any to begin with) for the movie.

It's sad that Eastman and Laird have absolutely no control over their creation since they sold the property to Nickelodeon a few years ago.

What we have is pictures, rumors AND some of the dumbest (confirmed) casting.

It's that last one causing the backlash.

Pictures, rumors, casting, and an entire script full of horrible choices which was almost shot before they spent a couple months tweaking it - and piece by piece many of those horrible decisions are being confirmed as having survived to the shooting script.

I've heard no complaints about the turtles casting and William Fichtner doesn't count because his role has not been disclosed. People don't seem to understand this, that the Shredder/General Schraeder thing is nothing more than a rumor.

And idk why everybody thinks Megan Fox is such a horrible actress, she can be good in the right role. Before you say it, you don't know how good or horrible she will be in the April O'Neal role...in fact, how do you know this role wont blow people away and change their minds about her? That's happened many times before.

How did u get a hand on the script to be able to read it? And where are you getting all these confirmations from? I have heard diddly squat about this movie aside from casting (and of course the they're aliens/they're not aliens debacle).

Yes, anything with Michael Bay attached - in any way, shape or form - is an automatic fail.
That's not fair...he had some good movies back in the 90's (Bad Boys and The Rock to name a few) and the first transformers wasn't really all that horrible. He can make good movies if he wants.
