Do you even watch dvd extras? Do you know how much hard work, dedication and creativity goes into a film like this?
Hell, as much as you might hate him, Bay LOVES what he does. He and the director may have made some WEEEEEERRIIIIIRD casting choices here but they're not half-assing anything.
I don't actually care how much he loves what he's doing. He's not a good filmmaker. He's a SUCCESSFUL one, but hey, so was Roger Corman. Actually, that's how I see him: Roger Corman with a big budget. I mean, fine, he puts a lot of effort into his awful films, so I'll give him an "E for effort," but honestly? I don't care. The fact that he worked really really hard to make his crappy film doesn't make me want to see it any more.
You may not be familiar with my rants on here about this issue, but my focus isn't actually Bay himself. I mean, yeah, I think he makes crappy films, but big deal. My main gripe is with the studio execs who continue to give him work and who continue to crank out dreck with a recognizeable trademark on the belief that that's enough to make your money. And sadly, it is.
If you stripped out the brand names from several films in the last few years, I bet they would've been ripped to shreds by critics and the target market alike. Rename the characters and the film from "G.I. Joe" to "American Commandos" and what have you got? A crappy film with a big budget that nobody really gives a damn about. Rename the characters and the film from "Transformers" to "Megabots" and what have you got? Right. A crappy film with a big budget that nobody really gives a damn about. People see these movies because of the name recognition. And it's that name recognition that lets them ignore what they'd otherwise think is crap. So, instead of "Spike" in "American Commandos," we have "Duke" in "G.I. Joe." Bim bam boom, people love the film. Candy from a baby, man.
