Teaser: My new lightsaber "working" blade

We havent tried to fit it into a graflex, since the one thing you would need is a new bulb socket adapter to hold the 1" blade. I am looking at getting those made so the refit would be much easier.

In other news, the proto yellow blade showed up today... :)

No, sorry. My bad.

Let me re-phrase: When a list becomes available... I am #1 for GREEN. Only because I asked about it months ago, but that doesn't mean I'll actually be #1 anyhow. It's just FRIENDLY bugging/bothering for a green blade.

So calm down, fellas. There's no list YET.

Unless there really is a list... then I'm #1 for GREEN... :p

Lol, #2 is just as good :p As long as you get one of these great kits. :D

Oh that new vid is SUH-WEEEEEET.........

I love the sound... the pulsing... oh yeah... list me, baby...

...if only there WAS a list... ;)

beautiful work...

Yeah, I played around with all the FX blades, and they were cute and fun, but didn't really satisfy. Now maybe I'll consider getting one and putting this blade into it...well, when I have a job again, lol.

Great work, HD. I assume you figured out the best way to get the tubes frosted to your liking?

:lol @ Roman.

Hey guys, sorry there is no list right now. :p Maintaining a list this size would be a monumental task. There will be more info on kit release on my ezboard too, as I try to keep info there updated on progress,

Dockingbay, I am still looking into blade frosting. Right now we are looking at frosted polycarb tubes that are custom diffused. For the interim the opaque nylon tubing seems to work well enough.

BTW, I worked on a yellow proto blade this weekend. Results were really good. The yellow LEDs are not as bright as the other colors, but still much brighter than an MR. :D

There are some newer custom yellow LEDs coming out in the next couple months I am hoping to use - which should make a super bright yellow. Overall I am very happy with the saber. It's a huge step just to get a yellow blade with all the proper lighting effects, ignition/retraction, etc. :)

At any rate, here is a pick of the blade:

I can't recall seeing this brought up at any of the forums, but what about custom colored blades. Could you do a white blade and add a colored film gel to the inside of the blade for a truly custom color? I don't know if you can do white and how bright they would be without the filter (in the Luxeons, some of the colors are brighter than the white). Also, I know you would loose some light transmission with a filter, but with a blade this bright I suspect it would still be fairly bright. I myself am interested in a red and a blue but might go for a custom color if they were possible.

Blacklight could be cool, if it's possible. I like the yellow a lot, actually. Nice glow to it.

HD...I was thinking that poly tubes could be frosted using this acid-etch goop that I used to use. I was thinking you could play with the goop and see if you could possibly just pour it down the inside of the tube, giving the inside a nice, even coat, and then rinsing it out. I haven't used the stuff in years, so I'm not sure how well it'd work. Depending on thickness, you might want to thin it out, or you might have to use a dowel with cloth to get even coverage. If I remember correctly, the goop only eats so much away before it becomes stable and stops eating the plastic, so the results could be pretty even. I think you can get this stuff at Michael's, although you could probably get some on the web, too.

Good luck, and let me know if you try that out. I know it's a messy situation, so maybe just doing the outside would work better? I guess you'd just have to try it.

Any news on the new website and ordering info? I know it's a lot of work but I'm just curious.

I think HD has found a crystal cave in his back yard.

DB93, thanks for the info. That probably would be a messy endeavour, but it would be nice to try out to get the right level of frosting for a prototype. :thumbsup I will check out Michaels and see what they have. Thanks bro.

DF, we are still working on the website. It is almost ready, it is being put through its paces to make sure everything is working properly. I am also finishing up some bits and pieces of documentation. :)

ace, custom colors are certainly possible. I havent played with the idea yet since I am on this path of doing very bright classic colors first. Right now I'm not really interested in getting a pink, cyan, or other less popular colored blades. Maybe later it will be more of a focus, I really want to perfect what I have so far...

Thanks for the answer Hyperdyne. I was just wondering out loud if custom colors could be done. I know some people use a white Luxeon and call it silver and I myself have used a white Luxeon with a magenta filter (worked but not at all satisfactory). As far behind as I am building sabers right now, I am in no particular rush for a custom color, just something I wanted to keep in the back of my mind in case the need ever arose.

I suppose it is certainly feasible. The quality of the results would depend on many factors of course. As such I couldnt intelligently surmise how well it would work out until some back-of-the-envelope tests were done.

HD, I was also thinking that it might be feasible to make a tube full of something slightly corrosive, such as this acid etch stuff, that you could just dip the poly tubes into, let sit for a minute, pull em out and rinse 'em. If you have shop space, it could work, at least for your prototypes.

Anyway, I'll think on it, and do some research for ya.
