I made this lightsaber less accurate on purpose but I like it much better now.

When I decided to add a Rey TROS lightsaber to my collection I looked at all the official and 3rd party options and went with the Hasbro Black Series version. I liked the size, weight, and weathering, and although not a very fancy/bright blade I liked that I could attach the blade if I wanted to although all I really wanted was a static display hilt.

I really love this Hasbro BS saber and I think it looks perfect overall but I HATED how cheap and plastic the opening emitter ‘petals’ looked. The entire Rey Hasbro saber is 10/10 but those emitter petals were -1000/10.

I guess the real prop has a high-heat discoloration on the petals but the two-toned plastic petals on the Hasbro saber really stood out to me and distracted from the saber for me despite being accurate to the real prop so I decided to paint over mine.

I took the emitter with me to the hobby shop to find a good color-matched paint and settled on this color.

Disassembly of the emitter was easy and I made a simple rig to hold each of the petals for painting with my airbrush. A quick re-assembly and I loved how close this color looks next to the factory paint but I didn’t realize how much of the silver emitter detail would show between the petals.

Another disassembly and I sprayed some flat black lacquer on the emitter ring.

Final reassembly and now I love how this lightsaber looks, even if it’s less accurate to the real prop.
