Superman: Legacy

They took a whole year in post for cgi, Krypto may have a large part in this story, and it sounds fun!
I've no info but I'll place my bet on a Brainiac story. Kryptonian tech so a real threat plus he could have had Krypto as an exhibit... thus the doggo is friendly but untrained.

The "trunks or no trunks" debate kind of fascinates me. I know styles change and the character was designed 86 years ago, but people still think trunks sonehow make the costume goofy or unbelievable? Superhero costumes are unrealistic, as are their powers. We should all just accept that and move on.
Of course, that's not to say that some live action costumes aren't better designed than others.

What’s strange about wearing one’s undergarments on the outside of one’s pants?

I demand to know. Someone, please tell me.

Why, while some may go “full commando” I go “full Kryptonian” and always wear my underwear on the outside of my pants. I am but a humble, yet simultaneously conceited, part of the avant garde who push the very boundaries of fashion and good taste—you all will be adopting the same style by this time, next year.

I haven't been on theRPF in months. Come back to see what everyone is saying about the trailer. Find out my Star Wars thread is locked down lol.... Anyways my thoughts.

In this day, we don't need a "different" Superman. We don't need to be subverted or the character deconstructed. We need a Superman film, much like Star Wars was in 1977 or, heck, Superman was in 1978. A return to form. Something that's hopeful, and bright. Where right is right, and wrong is wrong. Where the good guys wear white(or blue and red in this case) and the bad guys wear black. And we know who's, who. We don't need moral ambiguity. Our society is being poisoned with it already.

And yeah the trailer is looking good. However I don't trust a modern film maker coming out of modern Hollywood machine. (Or modern Hollywood monster?) So I'm not holding my breath.

And as far as the suit goes. Superman has never had a bad live action suit. (Wait I just remembered that the Nicholas Cage version exists officially.... That one is actually pretty bad.) Otherwise, they've all been pretty good, and done what they've set out to do, with some minor issues along the way.

There are suits like the ones worn by Kirk Alyn, George Reeves, Tyler Hoechlin, and Christopher Reeve. (This not an exhaustive list, I know I'm missing a few people.)

They were trying to be 1:1 adaptations. Strait from page to screen. They aren't trying to change things. Now we could argue though, what works for a comic page doesn't necessarily works for the live action screen. (Of course that's subjective, and I for one think they work.)

Then we have suits of Brandon Routh. His are unique.
His suits have one foot in the that classic look. But are modernized, and made into a film costume. Some texture and a raised S shield. I think an argument could be made that these are potentially the best adaptations. Because they bridge two extremes.

Then there's the other suits or Tyler Hoechlin, and this new suit. They are definitely trying to be more modern adaptations. Using the suits of the New 52, Rebirth, or Injustice as inspiration. Leaning more into a sci-fi vibe for some aspects. With sharp lines and angles.

And then there's Henry Cavill's suits. It doesn't try to adapt. It is from, the ground up, a film costume. And it does that well. It's quite a departure. But it does it well.

And honestly I'm here for it all. I like them all (except for that Nichols Cage suit.)

We now have the new Absolute Superman suit. It has an integrated AI, is powered by the sun. The cape comes and goes as needed. There for flying, gone for fighting. And the cuffs are integrated with the sun itself. The story has been good too. His parents were commoners on Krypton, he didn’t come to Earth as a baby… We’re still learning this version’s backstory. It’s been pretty good so far.

All the 'ABSOLUTE' stuff I've seen thus far has been excellent. It's familiar but completely different, which I know chaps the posteriors of many, but if it's good & I enjoy it, I could care less.

Superman expectation subversion: Krypto will be the villian, holding resentment against the House of El for using him as an experimental animal to test spaceworthiness of Cal-El's escape craft, and bent on revenge, will cause everyone Clark cares about to fall in love with him as a good doggo, making his sudden but inevitable betrayal all the more insidious.

Superman's dog might only be in the movie for the scene in the trailer, for all we know. Any onscreen appearance is enough to justify a shelf full of stuffed dogs in the toy aisles. That had to be part of the motive for it.

I really hate to say you're right about this. But... you're probably correct :(

I don't mind Krypto as I'm just accepting this movie will obviously lean a little more into the campier side of the Superman comics. As long as Gunn doesn't go full GoG or Suicide Squad then I'm good (although that Ghostbusters looking kaiju has me concerned).

My only thing is why was he so playful seeing his master beat up?

I think it's more a display of joy at finding Supes...

I wouldn't even get my hopes up there...

In an interview Q&A session attended by IGN, writer and director James Gunn confirmed Krypto is actually a “pretty terrible dog” in the movie.

“You'll see in the movie that Krypto probably comes off as a better dog in the trailer than he is in the movie,” Gunn said. “Pretty terrible dog! You love him because he's a dog and how can you not? And he's got the cute, innocent eyes, but he's a terrible dog.”

Apparently we don't have a thread on this yet

David Corenswet (never heard of him) is Superman and Rachel Brosnahan is Lois Lane (a great choice).
I look forward to seeing this. I have never heard of Corenswet either. Let's see how he and Rachel B mesh.
