Superman: Legacy

The kid raising the flag amid total chaos really got me.

Don’t get me wrong; I’m looking forward to seeing this movie, for myself, but…

We have seen the kid with the Superman flag type of symbolism / trope before…

But why did they give him a terrible hair-piece glued on the front of his head? It looks ridiculous. Where does all that extra front mop go when he becomes Superman?

Having a teenager that ascribes to the broccoli haircut I can attest that it is in fact long enough to slick back with enough gel when needed. There might be a hairpiece in the movie but the two looks are possible.

There is a LOT in that teaser for something that is not supposed to have franchise connections or interconnected stories. The musical queues give me chills for sure.

When I see Lex all I can think about is him yelling “witness!!”

Bring on the actual trailer!

The trailer worked for me overall, in that it made me more interested in seeing the film than I previously was. But I've been fooled by trailers before.
Nicolas Hoult does look to be a much better Luthor than Jesse Eisenberg (though, admittedly, that's a low bar).

Krypto works. He does not subvert the drama.
Someone who grew up reading the comics of the 60's is probably more likely to welcome the sight of him.

If James Gunn can make me cry over a talking tree with a speech impediment and a raccoon with a Brooklyn accent, he can make one dog work in a Superman film.

I am thinking maybe Lois already knows who he is for this one? Like origins, there has been a lot of time spent on that in the past, keeping the secret from her, how she tries to figure it out, etc. It eats up a lot of story time on previously well trodden scenarios. Did she know straight away in all the dark gritty ones? I never bothered with those.

Yes she does. From what I understand, Superman & the other heroes have all been active for a while in this film, & most relationships the audience would be familiar with are already established, with the exception of Luthor. In this one, they haven't met, yet.

Actually Gunn did an interview a few days back establishing some stuff about this movie;

- Lois doesn’t know Clark is Superman yet
- Lex already hates Superman when the film starts
- while the Superman movie is fun, upbeat, and often humorous, he says it’s still aiming to be serious and dramatic, and isn’t a comedy
- Willams’ theme will be incorporated into the new score
- Don’t expect Gunn’s hallmark needle-drops
- Lead actor David Corenswet convinced Gunn to bring back the red trunks, saying his version of Clark would want to look a bit goofy and approachable in the suit to assuage concerns in the public about his heritage or powers.
- The movie starts en media res in a world already full of superheroes
- There’s no origin story, Superman has been a thing for a while here
- Gunn has a strict mandate to prevent marvel-izing the DCU, and says while events and characters can come from things in prior movies, he won’t greenlight any movie that tries to set up another later film.
- He also says Corenswet and Brosnahan have the best chemistry of any romantic couple he’s directed. Which is impossible as Star-Lord and Rocket had amazing chemistry.

My initial reaction to the trailer was...

"Wait...a dog? Are you for real? They literally just undercut the gravity of the moment with...a dog with a cape!" Massive eye roll…

Same. I think the trailer world have landed 10x better had that cut the Krypto bit.

Which raises my general concern for this movie - that it’s going to try to be funny and silly…

Umm...no...I have a Chocolate Lab and i love him so you might want to rethink your comment. Can you explain why you thought the need to have to label me/us personally? Did I/we label you as something? Nope, I/we did not.
Please don't read more into a joke than the joke. I thought we were all just having fun here.

I'm sure your choco lab and my aussie would get along just fine. Cheers.
