Sucker Punch costume thread

I have a question for all the Ambers though. I'm not using a flight suit as the base but making it from scratch, what sort of material should I be looking at? Is stretch cotton a good material for the jacket and pants?

Hi,

I'm not sure what the movie makers would have used for a base, but if they did use real flight suits, then they could have been Nomex.

Nomex is the modern synthetic that some of us pilots use for flight suits since it is fireproof and will dissolve before it melts or burns. Nomex is significantly more expensive though, and I have a cotton one that I wear when I'm doing ground work and don't mind if I stain.

Hi guys!

Jumping in here because I just finished a commission for a Baby Doll costume and I couldn't have done it without you all. This thread has been so informative and helpful with research and support, so thank you! ♥

The main fabric is all custom dyed silk noil. I'd never worked with it before but it's become my new favorite fabric. It gives the skirt an incredible swoosh when you move. The holster is completely handmade from veg tan leather, then custom dyed (not a screen accurate gun, but I needed something as close as possible to use as a form for the holster).

I think that's all except to say thanks again for all the help and information everyone has so graciously shared! :love

optinerd, I think the skirt and top look great! However, it looks like you have a right-handed holster in your pics and Babydoll uses a left-handed holster. The holster should sit under the right armpit and the double mag pouch should be under the left armpit. Just trying to be helpful :).

I was at the flea market, and I saw a Soviet altitude suit (which is Amber's costume is based on). So I thought about convincing my friends to do an interpretation of the male version of the group. This should get interesting if they agree to it.

That's twisted. I like it!

We joked about doing this on another forum, and the concensus was that no one needed to see hairy legs sticking out of a baby doll skirt!

(Or anything else) :sick

well obviously the "Babydoll" version will be wearing something of a pinstriped suit or a tux with cut off sleeves. "Blondie" version is pretty much easy 'cause you can just some sort of a Cherokee type, "Sweetpea" will be more like a centurion look, and "Amber" will be a sleeveless altitude suit with cut off sleeves, gauntlet, and some lower leg armor.

I cannot imagine the male version of these costumes making the wearer look like anything but a new member of the Village People.

Stephanie, I just came in here to see if maybe you had posted pics of the costume you just finished up. Awesome work but no surprise with you ;)

Hello everyone! I'm new here. I am currently working on a Sweet Pea costume for Dragon*Con, and a friend told me about this forum. I've just read through it, and wow you guys have some really great info here!

I'm trying to decide on a pattern to use/modify for Sweet Pea's coat, and I realized something. I know that there is corset lacing up the back of the coat, but does anyone know exactly how far up it goes? From the photo of the costume at ArcLight, you can see that the lacing goes up past where the hood hangs down. But I'm wondering, does it actually go all the way up or does it stop at some point, so as not to interfere with the hood?

And also, what kind of patterns (if any) are you guys using?

I'm with Isabeauthered - I saw one screengrab where the lacing goes all the way up - but I'm suprised there's no yoke. I designed the hood to have a small flap that tucks under the lacing - but I think I'm going to attach a strip of strapping across the top, to add stability and to have something to attach the hood to. Anyone have good shots of the back of Sweet Pea's coat, with the hood up?
