I really appreciate you sharing this process with us. Awesome stuff and it looks great. That glass cloth looks nice. It has a pretty fine weave to it. Can you give any more info on it or where you bought it? I'd like to use some on a project i have coming up.

So here's some pics from today. We should have primered, and smooth nacelles tomorrow at days end. I should finally have this darn bussard collector preened by then too. I worked on it a bit more tonight, it's really close. The red putty is bondo spot putty. Cheap but great stuff for filling all the fine holes and scratches. Sands very easy too.

More tomorrow,

Steve

We are now getting down to the nitty gritty. More preening to the nacelle main bodies but they came out nicer and more round than I could have hoped for by hand. Only took to passes to fix the scratches and dings.

The bussard collector part and end cap are nearly there. 90%. Just a bit more playing with tomorrow.

What is left is the small parts for the nacelles and the deflector dish. A good friend of mine I sent the plans to, he will CNC the dish but I may have a go at making it on the lathe next week. Main thing is to finish all the small parts and then go back over everything before I mold them.

I propped up the nacelles with the end caps on the rest of the model for a look. I'm pleased.

More tomorrow.

Steve

Steve,
That is looking superb!
One comment, the recessed area in the nacelle has a "flat" characteristic on the aft end only. It's hard to describe in words. I'll try to find a photo....

You mean this area? I''m sure Mr. Neill has something planned for the this when he gets around to the detail bits.

Thanks Steve J for pointing that out. I have the best pictures ever of that area of concern that Doug Drexler gave to me. It will be done.

Steve, you are making my childhood dream project!
You're a truly superiour artist & craftsman! I can't wait to see the finished product. IMO, a perfect OS Enterprise is even more difficult to get right than a Galactica!!!:eek

It's so smoooooth! Do you use high build primer? I really wish I could build as fast as you, I might try scratch building a TOS E, not this big, maybe 2 feet or so.

I hate to admit it but it's just cheap Rustolem in a can. Their primer is great at filling scratches mostly because it dries so fats and you can built up endless layers.

I'd say build your model. You'll be glad you did. It's a lot of fun.

Steve

Even the 11 footer is easier to build than the TOS Galactica. :lol

I disagree.
I just built this from a Revell kit- took me 2 months in my spare time because of the TINY bits I hadda add that were not included, or wrong! My next one will be 3', and it'll still be a LOT easier than getting all those curves & smooth surfaces right on Enterprise! :wacko
