Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release) (Spoilers)

The "Droid please " thing was annoying because it was a whedonism. A lot of the humour was ripped from firefly.

Yeah... cuz "droid please" is totally ripped from firefly. :rolleyes

It's funny, cuz everyone laughed at that part the four times that I've seen it. I guess you were the only one not laughing.

One can either sit and TRY to nitpick every little thing they possibly can, or they can give the movie a fair shake and then see how they honestly feel.

"It's a Wheedonism".... oh brother. Sounds more like a pot shot than an actual critique to me.

Which is considered a massive misstep in the series.

We shouldn't use it as a precident

Considered by Boba Fett Fanboys (the same ones who are probably creaming their shorts now that Disney is planning a standalone Boba Fett film).

I don't consider it a miss step, and I wouldn't say it's fair to assume most Star Wars fans do, either. Of course *some* do... but then *some* do not.

I love Firefly and I didn't find any of the humor in TFA to be derivative of Firefly, especially that line. Maybe some of the more self deprecating funny moments, but not droid please. That sounds very contemporary.

Of course the movie's not going to please everyone - but judging from the box-office it would seem that the detractors are in the small minority. And predictions that this movie will fall to Phantom Menace-like status once the hype dies down just don't jive in my book.

I've seen it four times (5th tonight). Sure, there are a few issues but it's a well-done Star Wars movie, IMO. Most of all, it's a lot of fun. Been a long time since we've had a fun Star Wars movie. I love it.

so, I saw it a second time....

I noticed a few more things. this time I clearly heard yoda (though not what he was saying). I clearly heard alec guiness, but not ewan.

Threepio said ' I really should have my normal arm re installed', meaning he might be back to normal episode 8.
Chewie might not have been ignoring lea at the end, he might have been keeping an eye on fin to make sure he got where he was going.
I wonder if Rey scanned ben's mind and that's how she knew all the force tricks after he awakened some hidden skill in her?

I liked it better the second time around...but it still felt like it was re treading too much ground...and i think having your main villain start off where anakin skywalker ended (conflicted, emotional, human), was a poor choice. he doesn't come off as strong and evil and worth hating for your main villain. this movie didn't really have that one missing element.

watching han die a second time...while I am ok with it (considering I had to take a while to get used to chewie dying in the books), it's still a tough scene to watch, especially since harrison seemed to really enjoy the role of han solo this time around, and I think it came through i nthe acting. I wanted more of it.

all in all, it wasn't bad for a first outing...

..

You should consider the reason we got such an enthusiastic Harrison Ford was BECAUSE it was his last outing.

I don't see why he hates it so much, other than the fact that he never really intended to get into acting to begin with and just kind of fell into it.

I saw threepio at the end in the crowd scene, but I didn't pay attention to the arm.

When Rey got kicked out of the vision, you didn't hear "These are your first steps..."?

Confirming what @jhoffman99 was hesitant about. Yeah, he's gotten it reattached by the end of TFA. The red arm is part of the story of the C-3PO one-shot comic that just recently came out (and that I haven't read yet). I don't really like the neon "go read the tie-in comic to find out what's going on with this gag" sign around that in the film.

I wonder if Rey scanned ben's mind and that's how she knew all the force tricks after he awakened some hidden skill in her?

That's the predominant speculation.

yeah, a book like aftermath is ok. but spreading things out just to get you hooked on things like the comics, not so much.

I still don't get why they had to throw out ALL of the EU. in principal, I do...but they kept SO much of where things where.
New Republic. Empire on some frozen backwater. Ben instead of Jacen (even switching names from lukes son). Rey instead of Jaina. I swear one of those aliens could have been a bothan in the planning room. Hans son killing a major character (han instead of mara).....and the thing will probably end the same with Rey or luke killing off ben.

Since star wars jumps in the middle of the story anyway, all they'd have to do is ditch the last dozen or so books (with the terrible abeloth series) and they'd be in the same spot.

ROTJ. he blindly caused boba fett's death.

Touche... :lol

That's what I figured. I just thought it would have been better if Chewie had gone to Leia. He just met Finn! :lol

BTW, did anyone think maybe Rey is connected to Leia somehow? Rey gives an odd look, almost of contentment when Leia is hugging her. I don't know if that's just because Rey missed her family, or if they are trying to tell us something. I can't see Han or Leia abandoning a kid though.

Also at the end was Luke supposed to be at the Jedi Academy he was searching for? I hope not because it looked pretty lame. Of course that could be by design and the inside looking fancier.

Yeah, their interaction was interesting although it might've simply been that Leia sensed what Rey had seen and been through and Rey appreciated a hug. Or it might've been far more than that. Not sure. I'm also not sure if the place Luke is at is indeed the first Jedi temple but I'm fine if it is. It looks appropriately old and weathered. The thing would presumably be many thousands of years old on a windswept, aquatic planet.

People are still posting in this thread? Woulda thought it'd gone defunct by now what with the movie out and the post-release thread in full swing.

its kinda confusing i think couple threads were merged, and since people couldn't find the thread they posted in just started more lol

did anyone else find the scene of cheiwe talking to a random rebel toward the end when they first get to the base kind of weird?

it was just kind of thrown in there as a throw away shot and this random lady suddenly is one of the few people who understands what chewie is saying.

also found it kind o funny they switched away from R2's 2-3-2 transformation. in the original movies R2 probably couldn't do that, and they had to cut around it. now he can and they still don't show it on screen ;o).

the other thing I noticed this time around was the Pink R2 unit in the crowd at the end shot...
